Long time lurker (been on SW since April) but something had puzzled me syn wise so I thought I would ask my fellow MSErs
I often keep Batchelors Super Noodles in the cupboard for DS as a treat, and I like to know the syn value of everything just incase at some point I would suddenly fancy one myself!. I always was a Red day girl back in the day but I am an Extra Easy convert so I have started actually looking at things that would have been a huge no no before. What puzzles me is the wording on the online directory .. for exampleBatchelors Super Noodles, Mild Curry, made up as directed, dried 100g cooked Original 9 Syns
Green 3½ Syns
Batchelors Super Noodles, Bacon, dried 100g pack
Original 23 Syns
Green 6½ Syns
Can you see my confusion? Is the top one 100g cooked weight or 100g dried weight cooked!0 -
oooh - I can see the confusion!
I would read it as: curry flavour, after cooking 100g = 9/3.5 syns
bacon flavour, before cooking 100g = 23/6.5 syns
Normally, I would expect a dried product to approximately double in weight after rehydration, so I would estimate that 100g dried would make approx 200g cooked, in which case the syns values (kinda) make sense

Thanks to whoever gave the idea of soaking porridge in water overnight. I did just this then mixed in blueberries and a vanilla muller...Gorgeous. Best breakfast ever....well, not better than leftover takeaway curry, but that doesn't count!I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0 -
Brilliant - Thanks Jammy, G&T can from M&S works out as just shy of 4 syns! Ra!
It's in the fridge chilling, now I just have to get that 6 year old to bed........0 -

Thanks Angie, I just grabbed the curry pack to look via the calculator ... it lists in the NV as "100g as served" and the calculator comes to the 3.5 syns. However the pack also lists a further NV as "per 1/2 pack serving" and looking at the difference between the two would lead me to think that the cooked weight would be 300g making it a scary 10.5 syns a pack! The odd thing is that the Bacon packs comes out with the same stats as the curry, funny they have such a difference in the directory .. it would be tempting to just say they are both 9 for a whole pack lol .. not that I would touch them as I dislike eating anything more then 5 syns a portion :rolleyes:0 -
Oh. Well If I meal plan and shop according to that I get bored mid week and either go shopping again anyway for what I fancy, or start synning, so I would rather do a general shop and then several top-up shops throughout the week. Means I do spend more on food but I've just had to adjust other parts of my budget to accomodate that. I don't take my food directory shopping with me as in general I know what is free and what is likely to have high or low syns, and if I don't check beforehand I check soon enough afterwards that I can adjust the rest of my week to suit it if there is a problem.
I am not a naturally well organised person, so am doing SW the way i find works for me.
The G&T dilemma - Isn't there a very rough rule of thumb that its approx 20-25 calories per 1 syn? Always more accurate to work it out on the calculator or look it up, but it might help...0
