Hi NM
I am hoping we won't have to provide valuations but will see. But the OR can check the Land registry, the last house in our street that sold which is like ours went for 65K and that is for a 3 bed house! And it is also £40k less than we paid for ours! :eek:But that is good as far as buying back the BI is concerned I guess.
thing is you need to bargain with the OR over how much to pay and then try meet somewhere in the middle about the amount to pay.
re the new kitchen - it is a gift therefore you do not need to disclose it. It is not as though you are getting cash is it? I assume your MIL will pay direct for it. I think that is so nice of your MIL to do that for you.
My kitchen is a total disaster area too and I could do with a new one. Problem is, cheapest I have been able to get it down to is £750 through b&q incl worktops which is not bad. But will take a while to save for that.
Next time Moorcroft (or Halifax) call, say that unless they stop calling you will tell your OR that they are illegally harassing you now that you are no longer liable for the outstanding debt and then hang up the phone. Maybe you could change your phone number? I know what the calls are like sadly, especially with the Halifax.

I am amazed at what house prices have come down to! 65k for a 3bed wow! You are lucky you dont have to find the cash to buy it back, If you are asked to provide valuations it will be them asking to get the free ones by the estate agents. Anything else and the OR will have to pay for..
Yes, MIL had already offered to give us the cash but i soon thought this was a bad idea and that she should jsut use her debit card to pay for it.. Just got to wait to see what the BI is first, and yes I will haggle!
To be honest, It would be great to get the kitchen done, We had to cut out the cupboards and worktop to fit in the cooker when we moved in, the units look tatty and have been mended a few times now.. but if we dont manage it well im just grateful we got to keep the house, and now we are debt free a new kitchen can be saved for.
Yes I told OH this morning not to speak to them again. I hadnt realised they had called him that much, Halifax were informed by the Trustee of the BR. They were sent letters about the creditors meeting that took place on Thursday. I wonder if anyone turned up? lol..0 -
I am pretty sure our kitchen units are from the 80's or earlier! but at least it does for now and then will be saving as much as possible to replace it. I am just glad we can keep our house too. Debt free! It sounds so nice.
I don't think they tend to bother actually attending the creditors meetings, just return the voting forms etc.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
picture this... once white kitchen units with a silver trim. Covered in FABLON! could be worse I suppose.... Id like beech with black worktops!
BR makes you look on things different though. I was so sure we would be homeless when we first knew we had to go BR. Now im getting to keep my home. We will never be in debt again. Not for anything, if we cant afford it we wont have it!0 -
Mines are once white too! with silver! Hee Hee! Sounds like the same kitchen as mine!
And the kitchen I did on the b&q planner was beech with black worktops!
I figure as long as we have a roof over our heads and food in the (off-white:rotfl: ) cupboards then we are doing just fine with no need for debts! Just got to get my OH to clear what little bit he has left to repay but he is doing well with that.

Well at least none for the time being. My OR seems to be so so busy! And I guess I should have known they would be as my local court went from hearing BR petitions three days a week to five days a week.
So from now on am keeping my head down until discharged.
Just got to arrange buying back my insurance policies and beneficial interest.
Am feeling bit more relaxed about not having to do a telephone interview.

WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :j :j :j :j :j
(no interview means you've filled your forms in that well the OR can see why you became insolvent without the needs of an interview....we'll all come to you now for form filling advice!)We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -

Well I wish they would not write off people who they think are over qualified - I just want a nice simple job to do and then come home and forget about! I am feeling ok now, just bit of a let down initially. Thinking about now what I can apply for next!
Hope you don't mind me 'crashing' this thread. Had a similar issue as I wanted to down-size from stressed-out Hotel General Manager to something that gave me time off and a chance to focus on my life rather than my job. It was the stress that was a major factor in me over-spending.
My advice would be - don't underestimate the power of 'knocking on doors' especially if it's a smaller business.I have a simple, enjoyable reception job that is 39 hours a week instead of 93 (!) and I am at 40 comfortably the oldest person to ever do this role (by about 15 years!)
However, I approached them in person and my face 'fit' and was offered the job on the spot. Too many larger companies have very shortsighted HR staff when it comes to age (in my case) & over-experience whereas the actual Manager needing the new staff member is probably looking for somebody with life experience who can do the job with their eyes shut!
Try to find out who the job will be reporting to and see if you can get to meet them - go for it!!0
