Parking Ticket Appeals article discussion

I received a parking ticket on the 23/12/09 whilst xmas shopping, I was 10 min late due to ques and got the ticket.
I wrote to TCP explaining the reasons for my appeal on the 1/1/10
I received a letter from them on the 13/3/10 asking for my shopping receipt for as evidence and giving me until 31/3/10 to pay the discounted fee.
Seems to me that it has been a bit of a long time for them to respond.
Am I within my rights to not pay
Thanks fro any advice.0 -

Just ignore and don't contact the parking company again. Of course they turned down your appeal, they have to do that to make money from this scam. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I would strongly deprecate sending the appeal and even more strongly deprecate sending any receipts to to these companies.0

Yes, of course you are within your 'rights' - you MUST NOT PAY!
You have nearly fallen for their scam.
Never pay a private parking ticket. You shouldn't have bothered to 'appeal' - this is a private company and they are hardly going to say 'oh all right don't pay us then'!
Forget ALL the circumstances, forget how long it took them to reply, none of it matters even if you were 'bang to rights'. These are fake parking tickets from chancers. Read the whole thread and you'll see the score, you just need to be good at ignoring some 'debt collector' letters showing the fake fine has gone up. These letters mention Court and Bailiffs in order to frighten you but it's just a threatogram, these things will NOT happen.
Nothing will happen except the stupid letters; your credit record will not be affected because there's no debt, no credit agreement, no money owed at all.
See here for examples of the sort of letters you'll just need to ignore for a few months (no big deal when you know it's a joke/scam/rip off):

Read the preview letters and don't panic when you get the matching ones - laugh and file them away. PPCs like to use debt collector and solicitor headed notepaper - but it means nothing. The only paperwork worth taking seriously would be actual sealed Court papers - as rare as hen's teeth in this sort of scam, as they get their money by scaring victims into believing it's a real fine/debt. It isn't!

Help!
We had a parking ticket today on a council road in northampton.
We were happy to pay but as we were getting out of the car my 4 year old son started vomiting quite violently and at the same time wetting himself, I didnt want a mess on the street or the car so the 1st thing I could think of was getting him to a toilet which I knew was near by, when we returned(25 mins later) there was a ticket on the car.
Anyone have an idea of the chances of appealing on this one, is it worth it??
thanksMummy to 2 gorgeous boysEdward 4 on xmas day and baby Benjamin born 28/12/09 weighing a whopping 9lb14oz!!0 -
I have received a parking ticket which I feel is unjust as I was helping a friend move house and unloading the car, and had asked the porter of the flats about parking restrictions and foolishly believed him when he told me that no one checks around here at 9pm on a saturday night.
But anyway, on the ticket they have got my registration number wrong (by one letter). Can anyone recommend what I should do about this? I have contested a fine successfully before for a similar reason (again unloading when moving house in fact), but it was a long and laborious process. If they have my registration wrong, would it be better to just leave it this time?
Many thanks0 -
If this is a council issued PCN then the wrong registration is fatal to the PCN.
If this is from a Private Parking Company then I would hazard that the ticket is merely speculative.0 -

It is a council issued PCN - should I just ignore it then? Worried that they might try to send fine to that registration, it not work, and then they look at photos and re-issue - is that possible?
By the way, absolutely love MSE - first post on here and a reply within 20 minutes - this should be a government-subsidized service (although then it would probably not nearly run as well)!0 -

No, it's not possible, they can't re-issue the PCN to put right an error.
The Police have what I think is called the 'slip rule' which allows them to put right mistakes on their Fixed Penalties - but in the case of a Council they are scuppered by a fatal error like this.
Ignore it completely - after all you don't want to alert them to their error and invite the hassle of a speculative Notice to Owner from them, hoping you don't know that they can't do this! But if you do get sent a Notice to Owner you can appeal and win (pepipoo.com would be the forum to help you in the unlikely event that you do receive any letters about this PCN).

Keep the PCN in a safe place in case the council makes a 'follow on error'.0
