Well as the OP did not let us know if it was a private ticket or a council/police one the point is moot. I would love to have seen the council employees face when they saw that letter. Not exactly going to persuade them to be lenient/cooperative.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

My girlfriend had her car towed 2 weeks ago on a friday afternoon. She got the car back and parked it in the appropriate zone, only to return to her car after the weekend away to find it had been towed AGAIN. The reason for this was that it was left over a weekend and the parking permit had expired without her knowledge.
When she collected the car from the pound she found that she also had 2 parking tickets from the time over the weekend before being towed the second time.
She has taken the hit and has paid £200 for the original towing Plus £50 ticket, the £200 for the SECOND towing plus £50 ticket and another £50 each for the 2 other tickets. £600 in one weekend for 2 offences!!!!
I don't think anything can be done about the above, but the kicker is this: Last night she found that there was in fact a 5th ticket that weekend, which because she didn't have it, she didn't pay it, which means it is now doubled in price to £100!!
Is there anyone with experience of this happening and is it possible to appeal the 5th ticket's now inflated cost, seeing as it's obvious that you wouldn't pay off 4 tickets and not the 5th if you knew you had it?
To clarify
- One £50 ticket with £200 removal charge
- Another £50 ticket with £200 removal charge
- 2 x £50 tickets
- 1 x £50 ticket now increased to £100.
This is Hounslow Council by the way.

Hi all
Well the other week I was parked in a place that allowed two hours. I do a class that runs for 2.5 hours so during my break I go out and put more money in the machine. We had our break a bit early and I paid up until 3:04pm. We are usually out before 3. But this day it ran a little over and I got back to the car at 3:10pm. I saw the officer come up to the car and I yelled at him and started to run. He waved at me, so I slowed down thinking it would be ok. But he wrote me a ticket!:mad:Saying that they allow up to 5 minutes past the time. I was 1 minute over this time!! And beside the fact that I actually paid once up until 2:30pm and then at 1:45pm, I paid up until 3:04pm. I don't know the area, so I don't know where else to park. I went straight to the Civic Center and wrote an appeal. I just got a letter back saying its been rejected. I am not sure whether to pay the fine thats been reduced to £25, or try and go to court. Its not the money but I just feel hard done by! And I don't think this is fair or right! There were also plenty of other spaces, so I wasn't preventing someone else from parking either! I would just like some advice whether or not to move forward. I am a law abiding citizen, but I don't really see this as breaking the law in which I have to pay 500 times the price of the ticket! Please all advice is welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read this x0 -
Hi Melissaxoxo, welcome to MSE! :T
You'll need to start your own thread, specific new cases won't be seen on this sticky thread as this is just for discussing an article. You can just copy & paste your opening post onto a new thread on this board (click on forum tools then 'post a new thread'):
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=163
You'll also need to scan in copies of the front & back of the PCN (and the Notice to Owner if they have sent that to you yet). All the paperwork, front & back even if it looks like standard blurb. This will help people see if there is reason for an appeal based on the documents.
IMHO you won't win an appeal based on what you've tried already so you need some fresh ideas. You may be unlucky and not have much to appeal on but it's worth a try. Also show exactly where you were parked (pics or Google Street View) which will help people to help you.

It sounds like a council park but unsure, is it?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Yes, Melissa has now started her own thread and added this:
'Should mention as well its Gravesham Borough Council, just on street a few streets away from the high street. Just wished the Adult Education Center had its own parking!!'

hi can anyone tell me what happens if the 'Notice to Owner ticket', requirements sent in the letter rejecting my objection to the parking fine, are not met by the Council. For instance...The amount of the penalty charge is not shown, or, the date on which the charge happened, or, if the charge is not paid within 28 days, or, also, the amount of the increased charge if is not in the letter. to this affect the council's claim....does this help me get off in any way?
thanks
