Traffic Wardens

Youll be pleased to know that in the Met area, anyway, no new Traffic wardens are being employed by the Police-its now "TPCSOs" (PCSO's) that can issue parking tickets........Local councils have NEVER employed Traffic Wardens.they are "Parking Attendents" who have to keep up a certain amount of tickets.............Proper "Traffic Wardens" have only to do 2 Tickets a day, but its never enforced, its just a" recommendation"0

Despite your later denial, comparing something you presume I said with the behaviour of a particularly obnoxious group seems pretty blatant to me.Neil B just keeps up the assumption that so long as the law is being enforced to the letter then it is ok!
Well Nazis used to use the phrase 'I was only obeying orders' to justify their unforgivable actions.
Just because it is law doesn't always make it right and enforcing the law stiffly and without human empathy makes any law an a s s!
Did I say anything of the kind? How dare you make such a presumption. I have recently been thanked by a victim of some terrible Council intransigence where the need to exercise discretion was obvious but refused. Assisting a fellow helper involved tweaking the correspondence, attempting to identify the Council Officer in charge of disability issues, contacting the local press, etc.
I also fully agree with the sensible content of the DfT Guidance on enforcement and I am frequently disgusted that Councils fail to follow most of it.A parking warden hiding behind a wall, watching somebody technically break the rules where a simple piece of advice to the person would suffice is moronic. However, these gormless robots simply goosestep around, exerting their sad little 'authority' in the form of issuing tickets for the self-satisfaction which it undoubtedly gives them.
It just comes back to my original response. How can you justify tarring everyone in just one profession with the same brush? It simply isn't true and it is offensive.
You compare me to a Nazi? Isn't your sweeping agreement with a statement about a particular group just that? Like I said, i recall it's been done before.A bit like the moronic practice of clamping a car which is then shackled to its spot where supposedly the justification for the clamp was that it was causing an obstruction!? Duh, now the 'obstruction' is permanent until cash can be extorted from the victim of the clamper.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to leave the vehicle so that the driver could drive it away and not be a permanent obstruction?
If a council issues clamps, it cannot be worried about obstruction as clamps cause a car to become an immovable obstruction by their very nature.
Like I said - but you failed to answer. Which Council?
Some general information. Ignoring a few corrupt and ill behaved CEOs for the moment.
CEOs are required to adhere to the law and have very limited ability to exercise certain areas of discretion. The reason given actually makes sense. The intention is that some consistency of enforcement is achieved and likewise, trained appeals officers (cough) effect a similar consistency in response to challenges.
Anyway. What is all this general nastiness about on this forum? It isn't very constructive is it?

After a minor altercation with a traffic warden who was wrongly telling me I was not allowed to park, a friend told me to watch my back as my car reg was read out at the morning meeting as one to get!
Interesting. Council or a meeting of Police wardens? More to the point - what have you done about it?0 -
@ Amanda and Sturll. What it really boils down to is how are your posts likely to change any situation about which you feel unhappy? if you seriously believe all CEOs or similar are the various things you have called them then what do you achieve? Likewise, that enforcement should be suspended for some (still unspecified) period around Christmas. Really?
What are you actually doing? What action have you taken? How are you going to change things?
More importantly, this being a 'money saving' forum, how will you help individual victims? How do you intend to address the failure of certain Councils to exercise the Statutory requirement to consider discretion? What formal complaints have you made about the behaviour of particular CEOs?
Don't bother. I know the answer. sweet FA.
At the end of the day i am content that I have at least some impact, in various ways. You will have none and will help nobody.0 -
Neil - I havent done anything. One of the wardens (Parkwise for our local council) is really nice and told us to be careful as they read our registration out at their morning meeting as one to get. They apparently also have photos of regular offenders to watch out for.
Just because we had a minor altercation with a warden who was wrong, it seems way over the top to then target the car.0 -
You may well tell me that they have since stopped, but I know that some time ago Camden (or whatever ward it's in) used to employ clampers.
S.
Correct on both counts. yes i don't doubt they did and it was indeed ridiculous for the reasons Amanda gave (sometimes).
This changed 31/3/08. Without checking I can't recall if it is DfT Guidance only to cease clamping or if it is also covered by Statute. End result is that all london Councils I know of have ceased.
Oddly, just today I was checking towing stats with a fellow helper. We only have towing and clamping from the last recorded period. Adding them together makes interesting reading as that will likely equate to the next set of total towing figures. Quite frightening. Incidentally, many Council tows in London fail to follow correct Statutory procedure in various ways. I'm currently assisting with 27 cases!

I was only asking what you have done about it. It is a bit more than 'way over the top'. It may be highly illegal and possibly be covered by the Data Protection Act amongst other things. It is disgusting and clearly those in a supervisory role are complicit. You could make heads roll for that one I think.
'Parkwise' !!!!!! So you are NW yes? Don't even get me started on how their documents are completely illegal!

Neil - in your opinion do you think clamping ever will be banned?
Am I correct in thiking that it's an illegal practice in Scotland?
Thanks
