Re: Lodger...Wrong Choice? Help Please

A tenant has a contract, often an assured shorthold tenancy (AST) which gives rights on things like notice period to leave. It also gives them the right to "quiet enjoyment" of the property without interference from the landlord.
A lodger lives with the landlord in the landlord's home. Although they can have a contract, they are not given automatic rights under the law, they obviously have no privacy rights as they share the home.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. In my experience, a lodger either knows how to behave or doesn't. Anyone with decent values would not bring over a gf/bf when they had just moved in to stay for nights. You wait a month or so before you start doing that! I would not let a lodger use my computer as that is a recipe for disaster down the track when they never get off it. The best logers are ones that work nightshifts and you wor days.
Also, as a home owner, I would struggle having a lodger in the house as it is my house and I did my turn of sharing in my 20's. I also remember that when i was a loger I paid scant regard to dropping things on carpets, scratches on floors etc. Afterall, it wasn't my house and I could leave any time I wanted to! If I had a lodger and wanted them gone, there would be no waiting periods. I would tell them they had to leave and to 'be out by Sunday'.0 -
Hit the nail on the head. Do unto others and all that.
.......which is what Lodger is doing?

You're the one that brought up the thought of insurers and police being the result of Amy leaving the lodger in her home!
Amy came here for advice. My advice is to give the lodger reasonable notice to leave. You may not agree with this, that is your perogative; doesn't make your advice any better than mine.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. reading this thread many believe lodging is like a slave campneas wrote:And again its a cliche but no offence but this thread is full of unprofessionalism based on emotions
Uh. Pot? Kettle?
I'm actually inclined to agree to some extent with your comments that some of the issues here are down to simple differences in how people are. Some of the behaviour mentioned, however, does seem unforgivable.
While Amy has the "right" to put her foot down on this, I'd certainly support the idea of approaching this as "simple difference in expectations, not working out, leave by Sunday" rather than dumping stuff outside in the rain and changing locks (again, not that Amy sounds like the sort of person who'd do that either. The point is though, it's up to her.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

If Amy's concern is borne out, these two groups may well be involved.
I do not say it would 'be the result' etc.etc.
Amy may be out of pocket if so.
Nowhere have I suggested or stated anything about 'vandal' or 'axe murderer'. Only you have used these terms.
Further, you falsely attribute the former to me.
Don't.
I need no guidance with language, accuracy or legal implications arising from misuse of same.
It is to the content and tone of Amy's posts/problem that I address myself.
And that is my prerogative, my concern in posting here.
Goodnight Amy, I hope you can find a way through this that allows you to enjoy your Christmas break and your home with 'a quiet mind and a peaceful heart.'CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

hi well i have not seen him yesterday
he came back home when i was asleep i heard him but did not get up
my neighbour visited me last night and said he heard when i was talking to the lodger on the balcony the night we had the argument and my neighboug said by the tone of my lodger voice he could feel he was going to get violent with me.
he tried to overpower me when i was trying to get back in the flat by putting his hand on the door so i could not open it that is all which shocked me
but my neighbour is lovely and concerned so he will help me to get rid of him which is good as i will have a guy in the flat when i will ask him to leave.
and i will tell go on holidays and give him 2 weeks notice and when i am back he will not be there , my neigbour will get the keys back0
