i think a lot of you in here an just bitter and are almost complaining for complaints sake.
I've had my share of problems with the postal system (who hasnt) but at the end of the day its a job i wouldnt do - walk around carrying that heavy bag in minus degree weather?? no thanks.
yes there are bad apples in all businesses/walks of life that always seem to stick in your mind more than the good - its sad how everyone, myself included, can only focus on the negative things. I think you should get over your little spats or delivery the stuff yourself!

Postman are not lazy. They work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week and the reason most packages go missing is because people are too LAZY and stupid to even check if the person they are posting to is still alive. I still get Christmas cards for a lady who died 5 years ago. Also people are so LAZY and stupid they can't use the correct address some even come in with just a name and no address..

A relative posted £80 worth of vouchers to us over a week ago, they haven't arrived yet.

Relative is elderly and didn't realise that recorded delivery would have been the best option so it looks like someone has pocketed my family's Christmas gifts.

I am not blaming the regular posties, chances are it's some temp who has lifted it thus giving the real workers a bad name.

Oh and I agree with the strike action btw

    or its been delayed/misdirected
remember theres loads of people sorting in MC's just now who dont know the areas like the regular workers
coupled with the massive rise in mail volume
to give you an idea.somebody i deliver 1 or 2 letters a day to is now getting 10-12 a day with xmas stuff

FYI recorded does not cover vouchers.SD only for vouchers especially given their value

I know most of this - and still think that it's a shame that all mail has to be sent recorded or special to guarantee a delivery (or to guarantee that some thief doesn't help himself/herself to other people's gifts).

All of my amazon orders have been delayed considerably these past few weeks too and I really do hope that the vouchers turn up and I can retract my comment about the temporary workers BUT I'm not holding out much hope
  • Ordered something from ebay Friday 13.00hrs..1st class post
    Delivered Saturday 10.00hrs.
    Can't complain about that.
....... Sent letter 1st class post, 3 weeks later letter arrived!!!!!
Or so the company say. I believe the letter was received within a reasonable time, but the company (who shall remain nameless, but PC W**** will possibly help identify them) obviously found it beneficial to deny receipt of said letter, resulting in costly telephone calls from myself in an endeavour to resolve the ongoing situation.

Don't blame Royal Mail for the ignorance, stupidity and bad practise of other companies.

recorded travels with normal mail.it makes no difference in how its handled until it makes it to the delivery office

    Two genuine cases locally....

A postman was suspended after it emerged that he was emptying his letters into a river so that he could finish up early and go to the pub. It was discovered when a man, who has his house back onto said river, noticed a lot of letters and packages washed up on the bank, didn't take too much effort to figure out the guilty party.

And another postman had been stealing parcels from his own delivery round and selling the items on eBay, he mainly targeted DVD's and videogames that were sent unrecorded, proof that we are forced to fork out extra cash just to protect ourselves from thieving postmen.
