It's great your hospital has a breastfeeding policy FG, you'll have to see if they stick to it... It's a shame they're not baby friendly too though (although they registered intent in October last year so could be working towards it)... Here's a list of Baby friendly places...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

They are in the process of becoming a midwife led unit I think, so perhaps it is all tied into that. Have to say when I was there the other day, it was really lovely. Feel much more reassured having been - also very glad that there wasn't blood up the walls like in SILs hospital :eek:Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

I can think of Tesco, Boots, Cow&Gate, Aptimil.. any more?0 -

Happymoneysaver79 - You can ring your hospital reception and ask to make an appointment with the anesthesiologist as you are having an op and want to discuss options and details. Do this as soon as possible as it can be a few weeks till your appointment.
I had to do this after having a traumatic 1st natural birth and a very traumatic 2nd c-section. I wont go into more details as i will only make you worse, but thanks to talking it through with the anesthetic dude before hand in great detail my 3rd delivery via c-section was a heavenly experience. As he knew all my worries and talked me through what he could do for me should such and such happen and i was better informed rather than just letting my brain run away with myself.
He is there to take care of you, the surgeon will not be put off if your screaming with panic he will get on with what he has to do and deliver your baby as safely as he can. The anesthesiologist is the one with all the good drugs.
I too had a spinal and once i got to theatre i was so busy eyeing up all the equipment and having a good nosey round the room that i didnt even notice that they had already put the spinal in, i was still waiting for them to do it, when they were telling me to lie down as they had already put it in and were telling me to lie down. They are trained to administer it in such a way that you dont notice, it is more the personnal fear that makes it a bigger issue than it is.
The anesthisiologist has many drugs at his disposal for every eventuality, if you feel sick, he will give you something to take that sickness away, if you start shivering he will give you something to stop you shivering. if you get a headache he has drugs to take that away too and boy do they work fast. I found that mine was very good at talking me through everything which took my mind of it all. There is a screen from your boobs down and although the surgeon is only a foot away once that screen is up it feels like he is 200 miles away working on someone else, its a very weird sensation but it doesnt hurt.
And as soon as i heard my DD make the tiniest noise i didnt care anymore, i couldnt take my eyes of her, and nothing else even mattered or existed.
But you do need to talk to the anesthesiologist beforehand he is actually more qualified and extremely better paid than a surgeon and the anesthesiologist in a theatre is the boss, the surgeon does what the anesthesiologist tells him to do.
Please stop reading any info it does make things worse, you wont find any answers as its not you your reading about its someone else.
It is your choice whether you have a GA, which will make you very sleepy for 24 hours once you come round, plus it also makes your baby sleepy during delivery to and for some time afterwards. I personnaly wouldnt have one due to previous experiences. I would rather have a spinal as i so wanted to be there for the arrival.
Everyone is different and has their own preference, you have to do what is right for you and no one else.
It is your choice and they have to go with your decision, if you have a spinal and something happens which means they need to put you to sleep it takes them seconds and you wont even know they have done it till you come round later, so them telling you that you need to have a GA just in case is utter rubbish, i am surprised they have said this especially as it does make your baby sleepy and can lead to them having to intervene with babies breathing once he/she is born, they usually try and avoided a GA wherever possible and only use it as a last resort.
So 1st thing tomorrow i want you to take control and ring the hospital and make that appointment, once you have done that and got some control back over the situation i guarantee you will feel a lot better. Then start writing a list of all the questions you need answering, this will help loads as you are guaranteed to forget once you are there.
Sorry for the long reply, if you want to know anything else in more detail please feel free to pm me anytime. I understand how you feel and i am here to listen for as long as you want to talk.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. You have already made me feel more positive about having a spinal. I am going to contact the hospital in the morning and ask for an appointment, don't know if I will get one in time because my date is 6th feb!!
I am quite an au natural kinda girl and don't like intervention of any kind so I think my problem lies with trusting others with mine and my babies life. I also have an overactive imagination and can easily dramatise a situation. I decided today after having given myself a good talking to, that I would try and have a more positive outlook and not be so doom and gloom! Surely there are worse things than what I am facing?
Anyway, thankyou again, I may well be back to pick your brains if thats ok with you:o .

Hi, i've had later losses at a similar stage so i know the worry, and also the not wanting (and currently dreading) to go over it all again with the midwife.
In many hospitals in Scotland you don't actually get a 20 week/anomaly scan at all. You have to pay privately, funding issues  . At the borders they do it though, because there were many stillborns and neonatal losses that could've been prevented, so they changed the rules there.
For the early scans, most places eg babybond etc will do them from 6 or 7 weeks.
ETA: i read that they're introducing the 20 week scan into all hospitals by 2011.0 -

morning all,
welcome to the newbies from over the weekend
MrsT, my condolences to you and your family. I do not look forward either to having to do the flight back home in your circumstances.
got a bit of shopping done on the weekend :T
have decided on a pram :T
i want to have choses a crib by the end of the week.
two things that are causing me trouble - dressing gowns and button front nighties. i am not a fan of dressing gowns normally and have decided to go for the thin cotton option as I am constantly being told that hopsital wards are very warm. have tried all the usual stores in town but the colours are white/pale pink or mint. anyone got any suggestions for online places to look? larger sizes to cover my boobs and bump woudl be goodsame goes for the button front nighties (without looking grannified)?????
oh and i have had family start to tell me what they think i am having from the way i am carrying  hehehe.... interesting to see if they are right
oh redmel - good luck with your scan today. let us know how you get on. i have my 34 week scan at the end of the week and was wondering whether getting a pic would be a good idea as not sure how much room bubs has in there. if they tell me i am having a whopper i have already told MIL i am doing a runner and it's NEVER coming out0
