Princesswoo Hello  it's not as simple as an england/scotland divide re: the number of scans that you get. Scotland, like England, is divided up into NHS areas. In some NHS areas in Scotland you are only offered one scan on the NHS. This is usually at 14-16 wks pregnant. There is talk of them introducing a second at 20wks in these areas in the next few years or so.
We paid for a private scan at 10wks - there were lots of companies offering this service and it cost us about £80 - to reassure ourselves that there was something there!
So far I can't fauly the care I've recieved, but I've had no problems and the attitude is very much that they leave you to it
No baby (yet) and hubby is beside himself with excitment/upset that it's not here yet. I don't need a baby when he's acting so much like a toddlerr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -

Hey Happymoneysaver79,
I haven't been through what you have (pregnant with number 1) but do you have a helpful GP that you can normally speak to? If you do then I would make an appointment tomorrow morning and if possible get your OH along and explain just how scared they made you in failing to explain properly the potential procedures.
My cousin as a rare form of haemophilia so she went through 2 very high risk pregnancies and deliveries of her daughters as the doctors were concerned that if anything went wrong they wouldn't be able to control the bleeding, not just severe bleeding, even small bleeds could have had severe effects.
I think the difference was that her consultant was good at keeping her informed of all the options and explaining that until on the actual day there would be no decisions made as to how they would carry out the delivery because everything can change at the last minute and all they can do is make sure they are ready for all the options and then pick the one that is most appropriate on the day...
If you don't think they are explaining themselves well then get your OH to support you and tell them that you're scared and they need to explain themselves better
Good luck!
Hi, thanks for your reply, it must have been a very worrying time for all involved with your cousin, I hope evrything went smoothly for her. I just don't seem to be able to put things into perspective at the moment, I know that there are many many people out there who are going through much worse but I suppose that with a young family already, I want to be alright for them. I keep having irrational thoughts of bleeding to death!
The problem with my GP's surgery is that the popular doctors are always booked up weeks in advance and my midwife is useless. She took my blood in November, found out that my iron levels were at 8 and ideally should be vabout 14 and didn't bother to tell me, despite me mentioning in December that I felt tired. I only found out that it was as low as it was when I was admitted to the hospital with the bleeding. I only just feel like myself again after taking 3 x 200mg iron tablets since boxing day. I could barely take a few steps to get to the loo before that. I also tried to discuss the section with her when they told me that I could have placenta previa but she didn't want to, she simply said, lets leave it until nearer the time. The only problem is that by the time later comes I am so worked up I feel like I can't go through with it!
I tried to discuss my issues after the last experience and it felt as though instead of trying to help me rationalise my feelings and help with the depression, the hopsital were very defensive, saying that although there had been problems they had done their best - this was not the case and I feel stupid for allowing myself to put my trust in them again!
I suppose when it comes down to it, do I choose a spinal or press them for a GA, I don't fully understand the risks of a GA for my baby or myself and the differnce in recovery time but I am scared that I wont be able to cope with the operation if I am awake. I don't want the surgeon being disrtracted by my manic behaviour, although I will try to behave myself:rotfl: !
It took a long, long time to get over what happened last time and all I want to do is to be able to enjoy my new baby from the start.

I had a 3rd scan at 32 (36?) weeks when pregnant with DS, but only because they needed to check if the placenta had moved enough to allow vaginal birth. Thankfully, it had. Otherwise, my last scan would have been at 20 wks.
We got the FQ magazine in a pack recently, which DH looked through. Now he's decided he wants to look a bit closer at some different types of pushchairs/travel systems. This could be kind of fun - he wants to shop for pushchairs. I'm looking forward to it.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -

Happymoneysaver79 I had an emergency section under a spinal block last time and although I don't see my consultant for the final decision until 10 feb i think I am going to have a section with a spinal block this time as well.
(Sorry MFD and AF I will probably jump the queue on you if I do that, also, MFD don't think about 13 March as being the last possible date cos if you leave it til 10 days over and are then induced it might still take 2 days.)
What is it about the spinal block rather than a general that scares you, personally i don't like the idea of a general and not being there if you know what I mean?
As a previous poster said with a spinal you are awake and aware (although after 3 days in labour I was falling asleep) you can't feel anything from your chest down and there is a screen up so you can't see anything, it feels weird no doubt about it but its like pressure rather than pain, you can tell they are doing something but not what, someone described it to me as feeling like someone doing the washing up in your stomach, i don't disagree with that but its a bit more than swishing about, you can feel your whole body moving on the table but there is no pain and you know whats happening all along.
I have a friend who had her first section under a general and second with a spinal and she said she quite enjoyed her second cos it had been scary the first time being out of it and not knowing what was happening.
Hope some of that made sense, feel free to ask any questions of me if you like, can you explain which part of it is bothering you, is the section altogether or the anaesthetic options which are scary?MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
