Sami - last in, first out isn't illegal???

It's standard policy and IMHO is correct.

It's nothing to do with age???

    I'm confuzzled!!

omeone who is young is physically unable to have been at a company longer than someone 20yrs older than them it is age discrimination, the new rules came in over 2 yrs ago coz I was still in recruitment when they did, thats how I know about it. it was at the same time "they" decided you couldn't advertise a job specifying "must have 3yrs experience"

Sami - they won't "check it" - they'll just give me a script for antibiotics, and see what happens then. If it gets worse, then they go from there. grrrr I hate to take antibiotics if I don't need them. Maybe I'll just wait until tomorrow and see. Decisions, decisions.

Krystaltips - oh, I didn't think of it that way. But on one hand, those that have been there longer versus someone who was recently hired, you'd think the most recently hired should go. Less job skills and experience. But then, the newbie might be very qualified and an longer term employee might be a slacker or lax on the job. Oh, the implications! Must make things difficult.

  • Glamazon - I have been sweating more since being pregnant and also *TMI ALERT* it seems smellier than usual! I don't know if its because I don't normally sweat a lot mixed with an increased sense of smell!

    Thanks Krystal and mollie!!

Yeah, damn these fluid excretions! Hope it passes pretty soon otherwise I'll be permanetly in the shower or with my arms locked to my sides!

Incidentally in my post re 'Last in, First Out' - all those involved were similar ages (in their 40's) so age was certainly not a factor.

Where does the time go?
  • It's been a while but the law says that as long as the criteria are laid out and adhered to then last in first out is one of many acceptable selection criteria.

The burden would be on the employee to prove that it would be discriminatory

Edit - I stand corrected! It can be one of several criteria but not one on its own.
    What a load of tosh!!

Molly, completely agree, I feel a lot wiffier than when not pregnant... Hubby says its fine and not to worry... But he's a bloke and would shower monthly if he could get away with it... Makes me ever so paranoid... Especially as I've gone right off the smell of my 2 bottles of perfume!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

In that case what ever you feel happiest doing :)

it is a shame that sometimes people who are loyal to a company loose out but the change was brought in also to make sure that a company in trouble had a better chance of survving after redundancies with quality staff.

Unfortunately its not always for the best, my hubby was made redundant even though the bosses wanted to keep him but someone they had been trying to find an excuse to get rid off (he was an awful employee but they had no solid evidence to use ) had to be kept on as he had more certificates relationg to the job.
