  • Morning ladies and thanks for your comments re my work situation.

I don’t really know where to start, but I’ll have a stab at it.
I joined this company 7 months ago after leaving a job I really liked. I did it because we were planning for bubba and it was a good payrise.

I liked everyone here, the work was interesting and the line of work was something I was quietly passionate about.

At the beginning and after being thrown in at the deep end a little with no training as such, I made good headway, formed processes that worked for me and good working relationships (hard for me as I don’t make friends easily).

I have never had a review. This was my first. It has taken them 7 months to tell me something is wrong with my work. This is based on an ‘I give you work, you do the work way of thinking’.
I have tried to explain that I do more than this but they seem to be adamant that I’m lying. (I work about 45 hours per week)

50% of the company are contractors, as am I, and because of this they have warned me that they can simply terminate my contract with immediate effect.

Though-out this pregnancy I have been here. I was lucky not to get morning sickness but have had very bad days with extreme tiredness and occasional nausea. I even came in on days when I had scans and had booked the days off only for me to be needed to cover someone else.

This has come as a bit of a shock to say the least.
I have always worked very hard and have worked in banking / finance / legal for 10 years (with some huge named companies) and never had a bad review.

They know about the baby. I have told them that over the past couple of months I am aware I have made a couple of minor mistakes due to my tiredness and occasional lack of concentration, but they are saying that I have never been good enough.

My 2 close colleagues (they have the same role as me in their areas) are shocked as they have always said they thought that I was liked and my work appreciated by my bosses – they have also said that without my help last year their wouldn’t have been as easily possible.

Monday I was literally torn to pieces in the meeting.

I don’t really know what to do to be honest.
Mr P says I should play the squeaky clean card for a month and see how it goes. And I agree to a point. In truth I want to walk away.

But I have no other job, I would never get this salary again and to be honest, I love my job! I was only going to take 6 months off after baby because I wanted to come back and keep my job.
Sorry for the long post, but I really don’t know what to do.

    Doom and gloom eh???? :o

Mmmmmm sounds like they might be looking for an excuse to cut the head count... problem is if that's the case then as a contractor you won't sadly be hard to get rid off... is your contract rolling or fixed term?
I would call ACAS to be honest and ask their advice...

Little P...im so sorry....an appraisal is not a time to bring up issues like this. Theyshould have mentioned this at some point before. An appraisal is ment to cover training, future aspirations, performance, but should not be the first time any performance issues are mentioned.

FG....I hope you feel better soon. Its so difficult sometimes. Im finding the hormones difficult to handle sometimes and have moods like i never did before i was pregnant x

Got the Community Pyschiatric Nurse visiting this afternoon. Had a few difficult days, but I don't really want to talk about it. I just want to be left alone. Very not like me!

Anways, I'm not posting much but reading lots. Hugs to those who need them. Labour vibes to anyone who needs them too!
I did wonder why you were so quiet but didnt want to pry.

FG - Hope you're feeling more like yourself soon. You don't need to talk about anything you don't want to - but remember if you need to vent or talk, we're here. Take care.

LP - Since they know about the pregnancy, and have never given you any prior indication that they were displeased about your work, is it possible they are trying to get rid because of the pregnancy so they don't need to deal with maternity leave? I don't know how far into the pregnancy you can go while employed before they are still liable for materntiy leave pay regardless of whether they let you go or not - I seem to recall reading something about it. Maybe someone else here knows.

DS is up in his cotbed, playing with his stacking cups. As soon as he nods off, it's naptime! yay! *yawn*

Oh - pregnancy brain - I heated up water for tea, then forgot about it!

  • As a contractor and being here for less than a year, I don't believe I qualify for Maternity Pay, but yes, they would have to get someone in to cover me for 6 months.

My contract is a rolling contrat, Mrs T - I too thought about headcount and costings.
