Pickle - I can sympathise. Slightly different, but OH is a contractor, with a 6 month contract. He has been renewed a few times, but thinks that because of the current climate, he won't be renewed in April. It is stressful. He is struggling to motivate himself when he feels like he won't be there long enough to reap the benefits. Hope things work out for you.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

hi ladies,
popped back in
feely - hope things start to get a bit brighter for you.
LP - i can't add anything to what has already been said, but i am thinking of you.
do any of you ladies receive the ASDA vouchers in your mum to be bounty pack? mine has £5 off a £15 spend on Health/Beauty/Baby. The conditions aren't clear so i do not know if the 'baby' part relates to clothes etc. If so I could get some more muslins/sleep suits and a blanket maybe?????0 -
Pickle.
I think it is easy to get caught up and get a little indignant that they said your work is not what they want and the timing (credit crunch/pregnancy/whatever - I am not in a position to judge either way - just run with me..) but in actual fact, if you love your job and you want to stay then you need to put some plans in place to tailor your work to what they are saying they need. If you want to stay this is my advice:
- think about the feedback you have been given...it is not for you to decide what is right or wrong, if you are not giving the service that they require then you need to adapt and change that.
- do you need any more information about how they want you to work? have you completely understood what they were saying (sometimes we all hear what we want to hear not necessarily what is being said)
- think about the timescale - can you realistically prove an improvement in a month? Lots of my work is on a monthly cycle so I would need perhaps 3 months to really prove myself.
- think about interim reviews - can you have a chat about your progress on a regular basis, what is the best timescale for this?
-oh b00ger, I know I had one more point but I can't think of it for carp - give me a sec...
I hope this doesn't sound negative. I am trying to offer support and a realistic way through a tricky situation.

Little Pickle that sounds awful. I am in a similar situation, I had a really good annual review, comments that all my colleagues had passed to my line manager were good, then after the review, I thought my line manager was being a bit slow to get it signed off, the managing director made him change my review so I was not meeting minimum requirements. I also work in finance. I don't think my job is in jeopardy, but the bonus pot is smaller and I think the MD wants to give as much as he can to his mates (less for me if I haven't met minimum requirements!). I had 2 weeks signed off on work related stress due to this before Christmas and I am going to be leaving work 06 March even though I am not due till 01st July (may pay 11 weeks b4 due date and 5 weeks on annual leave before that).
My husband has been made redundant twice. The first time he was made redundant he had, unexpectedly, a bad appraisal which soon later led to his redundancy. (the second time the finance manager embezzled money and the organisation got taken over!). The silver lining for him is that he now works self employed and has done contract work for both organisations that made him redundant. His poor review was in no way based on the reality of his performance.
I think while the economy is at is is, and while you are still employed, financially prepare for the worst (if the worst doesn't happen it still won't be a bad thing that you have prepared for it).
Try not to take the bad appraisal personally (I know from my own experience it is a lot easier said than done). Remember over your career how successful you have been. It is a sign of the times, not your work performance.
