Even if it does turn out to be a bit sour to drink now (though, like 2009ismyyear, I think it will be fine), it should still be good for cooking with. I think wine's got to be really old before it doesn't work as a cooking ingredient.Back after a very long break!0

I'd say it will be perfectly ok to drink, not sure i have ever had any leftovers once opened :0).

Hi Ixia:hello:
I've merged your thread with the existing one on storing wine so do read others suggestions. Don't forget you can always freeze it?
Another thread which may help
How long to keep wine
How long to keep white wine
thanks:)

apolgies first if this question is in the wrong place.
I have a bottle of prosecco in the cupboard thats been lurking there since we got married five years ago...
It was a gift and not something I buy so I dont know-
does it have shelf life of a year or two , or will it be ok?
many thanks if anyone knows0 -
Has it been stood up or laying down in this time?.....0
-
hi davetrousers thanks for replying ...its been stood up ....Im expecting thats bad??!0
-
As Davetrousers has intimated, if the bottle has been stood upright all this time there is a chance that the cork could have dried out and air got in to spoil the wine. As it's a sparkling wine this is less of a risk than with non-sparkys as the corks are different. If the bottle hasn't been exposed to light and/or heat all this time I expect that it will be absolutely fine. Chilling it and trying it is the only way to be certain. I would!0

I'm no expert but AFAIK it is preferential to store wine (with a cork) laying down, this way the cork won't dry.
Thing is you will have to open it at some point anyway! You'll find out then if it's ok......0
