I like to blanch green veg. That means to plunge them into boiling (unsalted) water for just a minute or two. then immediately drain them and either put them into iced water or run cold water over them. Then I bag and freeze them.
I dont blanch Onions. I prefer instead to put them into nylon tights and tie knots between them and hang them in a cool dry place.
I cook beetroot until tender - and THEN freeze.
My mum doesnt bother blanching any veg. its personal preference hun.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

This helps loads, I don't want to waste anything. The peas are for my daughter as she is the only one in the household who likes them so thought this would be a good way and also getting the homegrown goodness!!

I'm decluttering and found 3 random bottles of red wine at the back of the cupboard (I know! ) I have no idea if they'd still be ok to drink or if they'd be headache material now.

They are Roches Fleuries no date Corbieres, The Ruins 2007 Pinotage, El Caballo 2010 Merlot.

They're all screw tops and have been standing upright in the back of the cupboard.

Should I be drinking it or tipping it away?

As long as it has not been opened then it will have been 'ageing' rather than going off. It should be lovely, you'll soon smell if it isn't!

ETA - the reason wine was stored on its side is to keep the cork moist but these being screw top it won't matter. Some people invest in wine and keep it for decades, I prefer to drink it ;)

These are not old bottles of wine!

Open the bottles when you are ready to drink with them. If they taste suspect, then throw them away.

I should think they'd be ok for cooking with. Just smell, and have a very small taster first. I drank some I'd had from a raffle without realising it was out of date (a good few years). It wasn't that nice, although passable so used the rest for cooking, and was fine. I suffered no ill-effects from drinking some.
    Oh well...

Red wine keeps better than white wine.

A couple of years ago, I enjoyed a bottle from about 1973. And I have heard of people paying thousands of pounds to drink red wine that has matured for decades.

So your wine probably tastes better now than it did when you bought it.

Totally undrinkable, indeed they are dangerous. If you are near me I can collect and dispose of them safely for you.

I vote drink, with the proviso that if it tastes bleedin' awful, don't bother. - that might have nothing to do with the age, depends whether they were any good in the first place!
