  • Thanks guys :0) They were put there out of the way of toddler who went through a phase of grabbing stuff out of wine rack and they just got forgotten about in the cupboard due to pregnancy and breastfeeding...

I know that this might seem like a really stoopid question .............. BUT, I've got quite a few bottles of wine that I've had for absolutely ages - by that I mean that the oldest is around 5yrs old :o.

None of it was expensive stuff .................. but, as a matter of interest, how long do 'ordinary bottles of plonk' keep?

    If they are open.

5 yrs..!!...throw it out would be my call.

To drink I would say up to 4 days. To cook with up to a week...maybe a week and a half depending on temperature etc.

If unopened, depends on the wine and how it's been kept, only way to know is open and taste.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    UNopened

I would think it will be fine. Taste it, if it's good then carry on.
  • We found a range of bottles of wine when clearing my mum's garage last year. Some were home brewed (1983), and some were bought (no idea of age.)

We opened, we tasted and we junked - all were vile.

But open and taste is my motto...

Never been a problem in our house. A guy once tried to sell us some that would keep for a week in the fridge once opened. I said you haven't met the missus.
  • How long does a bottle of Wine last. In our house, about a day and a half!

They're all unopened ..................... think I might just open the oldest, have a sniff and if it doesn't smell weird, have a 'little taste' :D. If it's ok, I'll use it up over a couple of nights :).

The reason that it's still there - it was all given to me as presents from people where I used to work. OH is a 'recovering alcoholic' - almost 15yrs sober - so I tend not to drink in the house. Imagine giving up chocolate, in the knowledge that eating it would do you serious harm, then somebody eating the damn stuff in front of you ......................... really wouldn't be pleasant for him ;).

I'd agree with the taste it and see principle. Generally speaking it's only quality wines that people keep for years, especially full-bodied reds. Most supermarket wines are intended for quick turnover.
