You're probably best blanching those. The parsnips, I think I would cook up and mash before freezing.

boil in hot boiling water for 1 or 2 minutes then straight into cold water to stop them cooking.

I do carrots a lot, but i only use them for soup so slice them first.
I think i read somewhere if you try and freeze things that are to big, the outside freezes before the inside.
Or does blanching stop that ?????

I slice them up so they are the approximate size and so I can get just the correct amount out.

I normally freeze them on a metal tray and when they are frozen, tap them into a plastic bag so they are not one big lump.

I rarely blanch as I try not to keep things frozen for too long. (well, one of my new year resolutions is to try and keep the freezer goods rotated)

i have some parsnips, carrots and an onion that needed using so i have chopped the onion and froze it raw, i read i could do that on here i think, the carrots and parsnips i have cooked and will freeze when cold then defrost to use in a chicken casserole next week, i would have normally thrown them away so am quite impressed with myself:rotfl: and i have used up the 1/2 dozen small potatoes in the bottom of the bag that i used to through away cos i couldnt be bothed to peal ones that small:rolleyes:

    Hi

Not sure if this is the correct place to post but here goes!

How long can you drink a bottle of white wine before it goes off? I have a bottle that was opened on Friday night and only 1 glass was drunk. It has a screw top that has been fastened, but how long will it keep for?

    Thanks for any answers given!

  • Should be OK if the top's been on but wouldn't leave it too long - do the taste test to check for sure!

    Must say it's not a problem I ever have.......<hic>
