Pros and Cons of having a second child?

We technically only have one child, although now my teenage niece lives with us. We had only planned on having one child so we're in a weird situation really (although I wouldn't have it otherwise).
Like you, I have found parenthood exhausting! My daughter is 18months and is wonderful - but so high maintanence. I'm still breastfeeding and she still sleeps in our bed; I'm happy with it - I think it's natural - but when it's over, I won't be doing it again :rotfl:I wouldn't want to have to stop before she wanted to for the sake of a sibling, either. I had health issues after having her which just add to my conviction.
Having two children has seriously impacted on the lifestyle that we wanted; holidays are compromised, so is where we live (the cost of that extra bedroom is surprising. A bigger car has been required. It's all down to your priorities and also, what you had to begin with.
I come from a big family and sometimes, I feel sad that my daughter won't have the same. She will also have a lot of things I didn't, though. I was unsure about everything for a while and I have certainly grieved a little for the other children we won't have. In my heart of hearts, I know another one would be a bad idea.I like you. I shall kill you last.0 -
That is SO not true. Many of DD's friends end up here to get away from bullying siblings. Our house is always full of kids as most mums with more than one can't be bothered. The feral gangs of kids are often from homes of 4, 5 , 6 kids. I bet you won't see only children roaming the streets.
Being a parent of one makes me a better parent. Many people won't admit this as once you have added to the brood it is too late.
I find this statement very offensive, everyone has the right to decide how many children they are able to bring into the world. "Most mums with more than one child can't be bothered" what planet are you on?
I am one of six we have all grown up to be decent members of society none of us went feral:rotfl:
Glad you haven't diluted your parenting skills by having a second child seems the one you have has sapped all your sense!0 -
hi there
can't think of any cons, except knackered and always feel guilty that not enough attention to give, had 2 in 18 months and ready for 3rd, Daisy loves her brother and its taught her so much to share etc.. definately worth it!0
