I went to our local woolies this morning at 9.30 after the school run and the shop was heaving. I couldn't get a proper look as the queues were backed up into the aisles and the aisles are very narrow. I bought some stuff I needed, a dinner service, some coathangers a pair of jeans for dd, a christmas dvd for the children, a stocking filler for ds and a little toy for dd as she had been so good holding my hand and standing in the queue for a long time.

I didn't really save much but I didn't spend just for the sake of it either as I would have bought the items anyway.

A couple of people commented that if the stores had had this custom in the last few months they may not be facing the bleak future they are. I remember when Woolies was the place to go to get your wee christmas presents for the dip in school/work or a gift for a birthday party or whatever and the queues would be round the shop, now Asda, Tesco etc have great wee sets for reasonable prices. Woolies prices were/are not competitive - as an example about a month ago I bought a Wii Ben 10 game for my nephew in Woolies at £24.99 (roughly) went from there to Morrisons for my shopping and the exact same game was £16.99, even today the game was still £24.99 with only 10% off.
  • not everything half price, got a digital radio for £20 though, saved 20%.

I went into Woolies today and was very disappointed, the tins of chocolates (Roses, Quality Street etc) that are £5 in Sainsburys (and other places I bet) were £6.99 with 10% off = £6.29

We did get some wrapping paper (4 rolls for approx. £2.45) and some small selection boxes for 90p each but it was a lot of hype and not much to show for it i'm afraid.

I love Woolies and am very sad that it might be closing, I've grown up with Woolies and although todays sale was naff I do shop in there quite a bit.
 Think happy & you'll be happy
