I had to travel to a few towns for work today. Went into the Woolies in each one and although people were going mad buying stuff it was silly.
could have bought most of it cheaper on the net inc delivery.
The sale really sucked to be honest. People left right and centre falling into the classic trap of thinking they were getting a great deal when really they were not
Its just like the number of auctions you see on ebay where people bid more than you would pay in the shops.0 -

Couldnt agree more Spudgunner. A few bargains to be had but on the whole a disappointment.OnePoll - £12.40, Yougov - £1.00, VO - £24.25, youdoo miles - 24292, MHF - £0.00

I do feel for the staff, genuinely. Losing your job at any time is hard, but right by Christmas is just terrible. However, if Woolies really intended to survive, they would have made their prices more competitive long before. People have voted with their wallets i guess
Whatever happens, i hope the staff are employed in new (better) jobs asap.OnePoll - £12.40, Yougov - £1.00, VO - £24.25, youdoo miles - 24292, MHF - £0.00

Me too, but with management that think of sales like this it's no wonder Woolies has gone down the tubes.
No point worrying about the stafff because it's too late - come Christmas Eve they will (mostly) get given redundancy notices. Woolies will only stay open in January for the genuine 50% off sale, and only in some locations.
What is really sad is that when I was a young boy (35 years ago) I used to buy almost ALL my Christmas presents in Woolies. Now it's just a dirty, run down shadow of its former self. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
i went running to woolies too straight after the school run - had £40 of vouchers to use and struggled to spend it all on the "bargains" we'd been expecting!
was packed though and loads of people buying loads of stuff.0 -
I went and it was pathetic. I go to woolies at least once a week, the fireman sam sets RRP £40 half price to £20 has been that price for two years now as I bought one for my son for xmas, some of the lego technic stuff is £35 instead of £50 but have been that price for a couple of months.
Got a throw for £12 instead of £20 (says RRP 40) but has been £20 since they came into stock earlier in the year.
The 3 for 2 on kids clothes wasnt on, and that is where I usually spend my money.
Unless you want a paint your own mug, spiderman, dog etc (they filled a whole row with them in my local shop!) then I dont think there is much there.
Oh them crappy tool sets for "dads" and uncles etc, had discounts on them.
Oh and I got 3 strings of tinsel for the price of 2, whoopee doo.
Off to a town 20 miles away today, will see if there is anything different there but I doubt it.0 -
I got a few more bits yesterday and today (in addition to the LeapPad books I got for £17 with a total RRP for £65 the other day). I got some Chad Valley paint your own flower pots- 'RRP' £6, down to 50p and 30% off. Baby socks that were £1 but at the counter they scanned for 41p. The chocolate throw, and some baubles. I also bought some baby vests that were 1/2 price but they charged me full price (minus 20%)for them so when I returned it today they gave me back the difference between the full and 1/2 price which meant I got it even cheaper as he (the manager was serving me) didnt take into account the 20% discount on the full price. Very nice of him.
It was sooo quiet this morning compared to yesterday but thats cos we were there at opening time!
