Dear MSE forumers, got a question/need help for you.
Today I got a parking fine for parking kind of unusual spot. Ticket says contravention had occured: "Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours."
I was parked on a island like part of street with no signs except double yellow on the road.
I was not obstracting either pavment or an entrance somewhere. Parking officer was there and could not give me proper answer me why he issued a ticket. He said there is a double yellow line that is why.
See the pictures below and advise should I dispute the ticket or not?

On the face of it, this seems to be about parking in a public street and not in a private car-park. So wrong thread I'm afraid.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

I have read the thread and the guide but am still a little concerned. I got a £60 fine on a business park last week, it was clearly signed taht you needed a permit however I followed the signs for visitor parking and assumed that was fine - 2.5hours later I discovered I was wrong!

My problem is, I understand teh general advice is to ignore it but I was in a hire car and am worried that theyw ill get my details from the hire car company who will probably pay the fine with my card details (they have done this to a colleague before). ANy ideas what I should do?

One correction to your post. It's not a "fine", just an invoice.

I agree :-) at least so far it is an invoice and potential fine. :T
