  • You didn't mention any council. Are you sure?
  • V.quickly got ticket today from PPC, there are signs but I didn't read it properley about not leaving the parking site, all I read was the 2hrs free parking.
Am I ok to just go ahead and ignore it? its at £45 at mo but will increase to £90 if I don't respond. I have had no correspondence yet as it only happened today.

    Thank you x
  • Read all the posts, about free parking, on here for the answer, there are dozens of them.

    Nah, don't bother
just ignore anything they send you, don't reply, don't contact and don't worry they give up after about 5-6 letters and threats. If you contact them it goes up to 8-10, some even with scary coloured writing.

  • My sister has recieved a private parking ticket through the post today for being 2 minutes and 15 seconds over the alloted 2 hours. Should she ignore this letter? She has evidence of visting several outlets at this retail park on that day and I don't feel she has abused the system by being 135 seconds over ( which is probably the time it took to load her two small children into there car seats!) They are requesting £150 or £75 if she pays within 14 days.....To pay or not to pay?

Read up on these private "tickets".

The moneysaving thing to do is ignore the ticket and all the threatening letters you will receive.

Don't waste time appealing to their better nature over the 135 seconds!

A few weeks ago I reported on here about about a woman who rang up a local radio consumer programme complaining about a car-park in Hitchen managed by Excel. Her complaint was that she drove into the car-park and, because there had just been a cloud-burst and the place was flooded, she drove straight out again. A few weeks later she received a letter from Excel saying she had stayed for twenty minutes and was thus liable for a charge of £60. They even supplied (blurred) pictures showing her alleged entry and exit times. That woman was adamant that she was only in there for three minutes at the most.

This week another woman phoned the same radio station with exactly the same problem. In this case she drove into the same car-park, decided she did not like the look of the place and drove straight out again. Then (surprise, surprise) she received a letter also stating that she had in fact been there for twenty minutes and was liable for the £60 charge.

It looks as though Excel's cameras have a fault which will show a minimum of twenty minutes no matter how short a time you stay. The radio presenter did make the valid point that he would like those cameras subjected to an independent test to see how accurate they are. Additionally, I think the radio station are going to put this to the test by driving into the car-park, then straight out, and seeing if they get charged for a "twenty minute" stay.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Ive had the first two plus pic of car etc, now the third one is from the debt recovery people.

Ive not contacted UKPC at all since recieveing my first letter so im assuming i must continue to?

On a slight tangent, they have my maiden name as ive not updated my details with the dvla yet as to my marriage, if i do change my name now with dvla will UKPC or the debt people also get my new name? At least if they call at the door i dont technically exist under their name anymore! :D
    Cheers

forgot to say the letter asks me to "declare whether or not you were the driver involved in the above contravention or disclose the driver " to avoid being pursued.

Just continue to ignore them and ignore the request to verify the driver. As an aside it would be a good idea to update your records, I doubt they will bother to check with dvla again and they certainly won't volunteer the information.

  • We have a ticket from the above company. The signs were not lit and we did not see them, we are sending the template letter along with photographic evidence.

One question though, the parking ticket was issued earlier this year from a Northampton private parking company called SRE Parking Enforcement LIMITED and this subsequent letter, threatening County Court proceedings within 14 days, was from SRE Parking Enforcement (ie not Ltd). Companies House site says the company was 'struck off - dissolved' in May 2009. However, they are still using the company number on their letter dated Oct 09.

Along with the legal issue above, is SRE PE allowed to follow up on tickets in the name of SRE PE Ltd?

They also have a BSI and UKAS logo on their letterhead, although I can't find the BSI logo as it appears on the BSI website, ie it appears but is of a different design.

    Just wondered...
