Sir Roger deLodger, thanks for the reply btw,im not paying it,and im sure if it did get near a court it would be thrown out anyway as they have one time limit on the letter and a different limit on the signs.
    thanks

Help required. I checked this forum out in October when I received a ticket at work...

    Story:
-Me a nurse - pay for parking direct from salary for car registered in 87 year old Gran's name
-No staff parking available day in question
-Parked in public car park & paid £2.00. Thought this was Trust rule & could park all day for £2.00
-Received ticket. Paid £40 but read ticket incorrectly. Didn't pay in time, apparently £60 after 7 days
-Ignored all correspondance asking for further cash having read this forum
-Gran received solicitors letter 6th Jan - dated 30th Jan with much threat today...she is worried

What do I do now? Having already paid out £40, have I admitted liability? Do I continue to ignore or write to them? Advice would be gratefully received!

I phoned up Town & Country Parking today to ask them why their signs at the ASDA store in Retford Nottinghamshire have the words "Penalty Charge Notice" prominently displayed on them. The woman I spoke to said that they are aware of this and that the signs are to be replaced. I asked why, in the meantime, one of their operatives couldn't just stick some tape over the offending words. I was told that "this was not possible" and nothing will happen until the signs are renewed.

Of course a cynic would say that the longer the old signs are in place, the longer they will fool people into thinking they have some sort of official standing and that they must pay up.

I was at Asda in Plymouth today and had a look at their signs, it is the same Town and City that "maintain" the car park and on the signs here it say - Civil Penalty Charge.

Tried to check it out but not available. I've looked back & re-read everyone's advice - it all looks so simple, but when it's you getting the threatening letters (even worse your elderly gran), you do start to panic. Is there any possibility I've accepted liability for a bigger fine by paying the first?! Many thanks & sorry for the lack of confidence!

You've paid more than enough already. I wouldn't worry about it any longer. In the extremely unlikely event that they do chance their arm and try court then, go over to pepipoo, where some very knowledgeable people hang out and they will be able to help you with a proper defence that will defeat any PPC argument.

Until such a time, stop worrying.
