  • I parked in a Hotel car park, Pay & Display. Travelodge in Hemel Hampstead

I had no change so I used the phone number on the pay machine to pay by card. Verrus.com parking payments. If anyone has ever done this before they will know, it is an extremely long winded automated system when you do it for the first time.

Anyway, I got there in the end and I got the confirmation text back stating the time had paid up to.

When I returned I had a ticket on the windscreen, £30 fine - failure to display a ticket - photo evidence taken etc etc.

There was no phone number on the ticket. Just Britannia Parking and a PO BOX number to send payment to. Hotel reception didn't want to know.

Now I have just spent about 2 hours sorting this mess out and I have got the right HUMP !
I have got better things to do with my time than having to sort this crap out.

I've had to dig into the Verrus website and print off my payment log.
I have had to dig into Britannia Parking's website, print and fill out the equally long winded Appeal Form.
I then have to put it into an envelope and post it at my expense. They even have the cheek to require an SAE.

I've got a bloody good mind to include an invoice to compensate me for my costs, time, stress and trouble.

If I did, how much should I make it for and what are my chances that they will pay it?

As this was a private car park then you could have saved all that time by completely ignoring these clowns. You do not owe them a penny. Surely you did not send them any money did you?

I can tell you now that your "appeal" will be refused as it's not an independent process. From now on do not contact them again and ignore any correspondence from them. And, finally this is not a "fine", it's an unenforceable invoice.

Try reading the sticky called "Read this before posting here".

If there is anything that it doesn't answer for you, I'd be amazed.

You didn't have to do anything. Why did you take a bogus ticket seriously when there is so much info on the internet - and on Watchdog TWICE already this year - about private parking scams?

MSE parking board (read some threads, did you think this was the only one about PPC tickets on here?):

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

    pepipoo fightback forums parking board:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30

Consumer Action Group parking board (scroll down to the mustard yellow headings to read threads but don't use the templates, not worth a stamp. Never acknowledge a PPC fake ticket, never appeal):

    http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?88-Parking-Traffic-Offences&

HTH, took me about a minute to find these but they are saved to favourites on my PC. You could have saved yourself the time & effort and money for the stamp though just by Googling 'Britannia parking' or 'private parking scam', or 'do I pay a private parking ticket'? Any of those would have found results from the forums telling you the score and the truth about this rip-off.

BTW do at least read the top thread on our sticky threads (first link) so you are ready for their pathetic letter-chain of threatograms. I expect they'll have given up by Christmas and looked for easier victims.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Has anyone had any success in refuting tickets issued by CP Plus Limited?

I was parked in a private field, owned by the local hospital, with a note clearly displaying that I had applied for a parking permit, address, date etc..which was what I was told to do until I was given a permit.

The note on my dashboard has been displayed for a month, as every time I go into the hospital to ask about the permits I am told they are not available yet and the receptionist refused to give me a temporary one.

Anyways today, I find a penalty notice on my windscreen. I was parked right next to the sign which displays the penalty information, but was covered up with a black bin bag which had been secured with tape..the same also goes for the sign on entrance to the car park.

I have taken pictures of both signs, but they are not very clear as it was getting dark and I was using my mobile.

The penalty is quite cheap, it's supposed to be £40.00, but will be reduced to £15.00 if I pay within 14days.

What do people advise that I do?

P.S: There is no photo of my vehicle or any other vehicle on the ticket and it has been handwritten.

    Thanks

CP Plus are well known on here. Just ignore them and don't contact them. It's as simple as that.

  • I'm going through the exact same thing with excel parking they just keep alternating between themselves ,solicitors and a debt agency. i basically sent them a letter early on saying i wasnt the driver then ignored them but kept all there letters for evidence of harassment. even today the debt people actually phoned me so i just put the phone down. This is been going on for 12 mths now,i'm not worried neither should you.

Success in refuting a PPC ticket? Why would you bother to try to 'refute' a scam?

I have just copied & pasted a reply I gave just the page before this, hope it helps you:

    QUOTE
To all the people who stumble across this thread after reading Martin's article on PPC tickets - this thread is just one of HUNDREDS on this board:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163

Everyone with a private parking co (PPC) ticket is in the same boat as you, ignoring the bogus PCN and the threatograms now that the penny has dropped and they've realised it really is just a scam. I liken it to a protection racket and loads of big retailers/hospitals/Managing Agents let these scum crawl around like parasites on their sites at the moment, it's something of a plague right now.

The greed of these PPCs has escalated the matter massively in the last 2 years or so, with new PPCs setting up all the time, and there'll be another rush in a few months when ex-clampers scramble to jump on the ticket-and-threat bandwagon.

But back to ignoring these bogus tickets.

Think about it: if any random person shoved an invoice in your hand for spurious reasons like 'treading on the cracks in the pavement' or 'walking around with an offensive wife' you wouldn't pay it, nor would you think about refuting or appealing it. And you certainly wouldn't worry they might take you to Court! Signs or no signs, you were OK to park there.

This is a widespread scam. Read some other cases and other threads in the link above. Make sure you watch the youtube link to the Watchdog programme with the legal expert and the paper aeroplane, and make sure you read & look at the pictures we have of the typical PPC letters/threats you will need to ignore. The info about this con is all there if you read up on it.

  • I quite often park in supermarket car parks and spend more time than allowed as im a chauffeur and have to rest.
Ive never paid one of those parking enforcement tickets and ive had many.
I even got 2 in motorway car parks and never answered them.
remember dont pay and they will eventually leave you alone.
