No-one with a PPC ticket has to 'hope they don't go to Court'. It IS NOT a fine!

To all the people who stumble across this thread after reading Martin's article on PPC tickets - this thread is just one of HUNDREDS on this board:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

Everyone with a private parking co (PPC) ticket is in the same boat as you, ignoring the bogus PCN and the threatograms now that the penny has dropped and they've realised it really is just a scam. I liken it to a protection racket and loads of big retailers let these scum crawl around like parasites on their sites at the moment, it's something of a plague right now.

I think customer pressure will kick the scammers out of many places in the long run as the largest stores realise what is happening to their customers (whatever happened to 'the Customer is always right'?). But I also think it will take years for the retailers to realise how their reputation is being tarnished.

The greed of these PPCs has escalated the matter massively in the last 2 years or so, with new PPCs setting up all the time, and there'll be another rush in a few months when ex-clampers scramble to jump on the ticket-and-threat bandwagon.

But back to ignoring these bogus tickets. Think about it: if any random person shoved an invoice in your hand for spurious reasons like 'treading on the cracks in the pavement' or 'walking around with an offensive wife' you wouldn't pay it and nor would you worry they might take you to Court!

    :D
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hi. First post so hope I get this right.

Got a parking charge notice and with registered owner not driver so ignored it. Then got reminder so e-mailed as per MSE advice "If you weren’t driving, you’re not liable and you’ve no need to tell who was" and got reply "we will advise our clients to issue a Norwich Pharmacol Order" and you will be liable for costs etc.

I presume it is a frightener and my reading of the order it that it is for serious stuff like non-disclosure of assets etc but nonetheless it is a but scary. Can someone out there advise?

Tell them good luck with that then ;) they won't take that action as whoever the company is are looking for easy targets, you I hope are not one of them, just cease to contact them further as appeals are not independent and they turn down all of them, they don't don't do court, they never do!

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam
  • Lets face it if it worked then they would all be doing it and taking everyone to court. But they don't and it doesn't
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Thanks guys. I will just ignore them and keep you posted.

Absolutely right. They can't just "issue" a Norwich Pharmacol Order, they have to make an application to the court, which involves a fee, present their case (more money) and there is a good chance the order would be refused, so they would be the one lumbered with all the costs. It's all bluff
  • They did say I would be liable for their costs of course ....

Only if, and a very big if, they ever took it to court and won. In the meantime they have to pay out.

Even if they did know the driver of the car, through the above mentioned Order, the penalty they issue would be still illegal, and they would only could claim a few pounds at the most, also if the car park is free where is the loss to them?
