Drop half a stone for Christmas!

I am aiming to lose half a stone for Christmas, would anyone like to join me?
I use this site

You set up your own target by inputting weight, height, how active your lifestyle is, and any medical conditions. Then each day you keep a food diary by inputting what you eat, and also an activity log. The site works out your calories for input (food) and output (activity). The idea is that you keep the input between 500 and 1000 cals below the output, but without dropping below the minimum food cals set by the site for your lifestyle etc.
Of course you can use any method you like....
If you're interested sign up here and lets help each other :T
Weigh yourself now, then we can have a weigh-in on Monday 8th Dec to see how we are all doing........... (not our actual weights, just our losses to date!)

Hi Dragon and welcome!
Well, my sis swears by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day - she says it gets rid of fluid retention round her ankles.
Dunno if it works, but water is good anyway, so worth a go - I always up my fluid intake when I'm trying to lose weight coz it helps to stop me feeling hungry :cool:I'm a retired employment solicitor. I don't have fluid retention as such, just the damage in the ankle is not helped any by the excess weight (vast amounts of excess weight ), but yes filling up on low calorie/no calorie stuff is good.
For lunch sometimes I will make up a pint of stock, add a measured amount of frozen peas/sweetcorn and a bundle of thread noodles (broken up), a very warming, filling soup for not many calories (and I wonder why I have difficulty getting over a thousand calories a day! )Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

Hmmmm.... I don't understand the logic of this, but my target cals are 1100 calories a day, and apparently I shouldn't go below this because it stops you losing weight. This is bad news for me because I am terrible for missing meals. I usually don't feel hungry until tea-time, when I'm suddenly starving....
But I find that if I have breakfast and lunch of 200 cals, evening meal of about 300-400, that leaves me with a few spare cals for fruit/snacks/the odd glass of wine... so I end up eating more, and losing weight
As I say, I don't understand the logic, but it does work for me.
Also logging everything on the PC works for me, but then I spend most of my day on the laptop....
EDIT... Dragon, I just saw that your target daily cals are 2400! OMG you must have an active lifestyle! I don't burn anywhere near that (but it is the hibernation season!) - looks like you are going to have to aim to consume MORE calories!!I'm a retired employment solicitor. I'm in
Anything for keeping me motivated.
The Dragon, I gained weight during an illness, before that I was very physically active: the extra weight REALLY shows up where you've damaged yourself and didn't notice how bad before, so I really understand.0 -

If you eat too little your metabolism will slow, and your bod will try to conserve energyMy TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Welcome Lostinrates and Frivolous-Fay!
I gained weight during a long illness which kept me bed bound most of the time, and then found I couldn't lose it because I am so inactive - on the plus side, even little activities like loading the washing machine are now 'extra' for me.... so it isn't difficult for me to find ways of increasing my output calories a bit, and logging my activity keeps me motivated to keep getting up and moving about - so double bonus!
But I HAVE to lose weight now, coz my younger sister who has always been about 4 stone heavier than me since we were teenagers, has lost loads of weight, now weighs less than me for the first time ever, and looks fantastic!!! Can't be having that, mate!! (sisterly rivalry, its a great motivator!)I'm a retired employment solicitor. My problem was that the Doctors didn't look at my medication and so just kept telling me to cut down my food, when I got to below 500 kcals a day (on a good day I might add! some days all I did was drink water), Dr Dragon came with me to the doctors, first thing "you need to lose weight, cut down your food", I burst into tears (very unlike me!) and they told me to keep a food diary, which I did, and the doctor came back with "You're not eating enough" - I won't tell you what Dr Dragon said at that point :rotfl:, but I had been telling them for two years I couldn't cut down any more! So for me getting over a decent amount of calories is hard.

If you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode I understand and therefore grabs onto every kcal 'cos it doesn't know when it will get any more!
Also logging everything on the PC works for me, but then I spend most of my day on the laptop....
Likewise, re the being on the PC and logging, I looked at what I was eating last week and on a good day (a day when I had some alcohol) I had 600 cals

Um no, just seriously porky! I weighed in yesterday morning at 21 stone and 2 pounds, this morning (no flipping medication for 24 hours) I was 20 stone 11.5 pounds - so I am 4.5 pounds of my way to the goal of half a stone already :rotfl:, I can barely walk so this is what I am allowed for a very sedentary lifestyle, if I was active I would probably be allowed over 3,000 :eek::eek:

From me as well!

I gained all the weight after the road smash that made me disabled, before that I was seriously active (ran everyday, swam, volley ball, horse riding, you name it!)
:mad::mad: to sister being slimmer than you now, but:D:D for giving you the kick up the 'arris to do something about it!

Seems like three of us have similar reasons for being overweight. The Dragon, I am in simialr sitution eating very few calories. Oh well onwards and upwards, eh? I get very depressed (I have all my old 'thin' g been vrweight clothes and despite having been overwight for a few years now I really get very depressed about the situation, coupled with ill health and pain its all very depressing). Sounds like Mr Lostinrates and Mr The Dragon would get on wll: min has refereeed Drs appointmnts too
BTW I have horses, not riding ATM (too brokenand heavy) but they do give me some limited exercise and fresh air.
Dealing with the weight in little chunks with a goal date is a good idea.
Right, off to go and do th horses now,0
