New year, new start - Purpletea65's 2009 Plan

  • Morning,

I have now got over the shock and have spoken to my mum and thanked her for making this year's Chirstmas.

I had managed to save £100 of Tesco stamps as well as the money off vouchers that they send through out the year, so that on top of what my mum sent down equates to £450, I know that not all of it will get spent no matter how hard I try.

So I have a plan. I am going to keep hold of the £100 that I had saved throughout the year and put that towards next Christmas, thus giving me another head start.

The rest I am going to make two trips to Tesco at Gatwick (as it is bigger and better than the one around here) and will go there once DS is at school, in an attempt to spend them.

The funny thing is that I have been buying for Christmas over the last few weeks when I have ordered the shopping from Asda, so my list isn't that big now.

I'm godsmacked to say the least and wonder what other surprises she has planned for us.

On to today, DS is going to his karate taster lesson with his bestfriend, if he likes it then it will be a regular thing.

DH is working at the flying club tomorrow, so that'll be a few tach hours building up nicely for him.

Hopefully we will put the tree and decorations up at some point this weekend too and I can then wrap the last of the presents :)

Almost forgot to mention, I ordered the shopping yesterday for this coming week and saved £11.54, so I will transfer that over to the account and update my signature.

Have a good day and weekend everyone.

2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • It’s a cold one this morning! DH had to scrape the car before he could go to work at the flying club.

DS’s karate didn’t go as planned, he didn’t want to go in the room let alone join in with his friend; apparently it does take some kids a few weeks before they get over their shyness and want to join, so it has been agreed that I will take him for another couple of weeks and see what happens.

I have gone through the bits and pieces I have saved and have got two vouchers that I can use for people for next Christmas as well as putting the £100 stamps away that I had saved this year :)

DH got the decorations and the tree out of the attic this morning and the kids and I will decorate this afternoon after lunch. It also means that I can wrap the rest of the presents over the next few evenings.

This week I have a lot that I need to do; I also have my physio appointment Tuesday evening as well as the first of two shopping trips to Tesco’s and I plan to get back on top of the housework now my cold isn’t as bad.

Yesterday I put £3 in my terramundi and some shrapnel in the demi-john, DS and I are having a race to see how far it will go up the side of the pot, the reckons it will be ¾ full but I think it will only end up half full by next Christmas so we’ll see who wins.

Right off to get motivated and I’ll catch you all later this afternoon at some point.

    Hi Tea!

Sounds a good plan - I need to clean my living room properly during the next two days (not spending *all* my time doing that!) so that I can put Christmas deccies up (just cards and the tree, but it will mean I can relax).

I'm wondering about these vouchers and stamps, I'm thinking of Martin's article about vouchers being a long way behind in the list of creditors if shops etc go bust. Having said that, I'm working on getting vouchers for my sister and her husband, so ..... not saying its not safe, just wondering.... The stamps were Tesco, weren't they? So thats safe. Hmmm, there's a lot of blather in that there paragraph, sorry.

  • Hi Karmacat,

Yes the stamps are Tesco stamps and as for the vouchers, one is an international book voucher and the other is an M&S voucher.

Okay, sorry! That all sounds good. Its just that I'd have felt terrible if it was in something that turned out to be on its last legs, and I hadn't said anything :o Hope you don't mind.

Mind? Not in the slightest me dear. I'd have had an excuse to go out and spend them then :rotfl:
  • Just a brief update.

Just put some shrapnel in the demi-john and two £2 coins in the terramundi following our trip to the soft play centre...I had to as the kids were driving me batty! That's the only thing about this time of year, the park's too cold and there is only so much t.v they can watch.

Anyway, there is no more soft play until after DH gets paid as we can't afford it now until then.

Off to feed the monsters now and wash up and then we're going to get festive.

That soft play centre is a lifeline for you, isn't it! Its a thought, actually, if you want your kids to be able to run around, and you haven't decluttered a room into an overgrown mattress, what *do* you do with energetic kiddywinks? Thats a tough one ....

Me, I'm not energetic - I've done *astonishingly* little this morning, and its so sunny its difficult to see the computer, but I kept on with the avatar thingy - I was looking through lots of photos of the object of my adoration, Michael Shanks, which was a lot of fun :)
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Well another week has started and another step closer to Christmas; Christmas tree and decorations are duly up and the kids are getting excited :D

I have had to move some money from the savings account into the current account as we have hit the end of the overdraft and DH doesn’t get paid until next Monday :o ; I’m not happy about it but I had a suspicion that I would have to do it, it just means that until and once DH has got paid we are going to have to be very strict and try and claw the money back….I guess one good thing though is that we haven’t had to borrow it from my mum like I thought we would.

Anyway on to today and my plan, the list goes as follows:
    • DS to school
    • DD & I are at Tesco’s Gatwick to get some of the Christmas list and a few other bits I missed from the shopping list this week, we are using some of the vouchers/stamps my mum sent down and as per her request I have let her know we are using them.
    • Washing needs to be done
    • Iron at least 10 items of clothing
    • Make dinner – although what is a mystery

Today should be a NSD although I haven’t joined the challenge this month.

Karmacat – I think I would be lost if I didn’t have the soft play centres, the only thing is that they cost so much money! But the good way of looking at it is that in the summer the park gets more use and therefore no money gets spent going to those places.

I am now going to go and get motivated and get the kids looking some sort of reasonable in time for DS going to school.

Catch you all later and have a good day.
