New year, new start - Purpletea65's 2009 Plan

I was going to wait until January to start my new diary but as I have joined a few challenges for the coming year and have got into the ‘new year, new start’ mood I thought I would get the ball rolling today.

The debt as of December 2008 is as follows - £9076.70, if I am to reduce it by half we need to aim to save £300 a month  , as there is only DH’s salary coming in I need to find other ways to make the money.

So this is my aim and my plan for 2009
  • Keep saving change towards Christmas 2009 – aim to not open demi-john as have joined the Sealed Pot Challenge.
  • Sort out family holiday to Devon
  • Sort out DS’s 5th Birthday party
  • Potty train DD
  • Sort through kid’s clothes and get rid
  • Sort through toys and get rid of ones too young for kids
  • De-clutter conservatory totally
  • Sort paperwork and shred anything not needed
  • Keep doing all surveys, competitions and daily clicks
  • Keep up with the NSD challenges each month
  • Get rid of family loan as quickly as possible
  • Keep saving £2 & £1 coins – Have started £2 savers club for 2009 starts on the 1st Jan.
I have thought long and hard about this and I finally know where I want us as a family to be six years from now and my plan for this is as follows:
  • Save £20,000 by any means – starts 2009
  • Move to a better, bigger detached house with a nice garden and better area
  • Get a job or win the lottery – think the job might win that one :rotfl:
  • De-clutter the house we are in now
DH is due to get a bonus this year, how much has not been disclosed yet but some of it we are going to use to pay off SiL and hopefully DH will also get a pay-rise next year (fingers crossed).

So there it is, what I want to achieve not just in the present but the future. Next year is going to be tough but I think we can achieve it.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post and thanks for all your words of encouragement; it does mean a lot as I know that we aren't alone.

Tea

  • Right have made a start, I have just counted up the money in the demi-john as I was going to bank it and start again. I have £19.95 in varying shrapnel but not enough to put in the bank so I am starting my new challenge with that.

I was thinking of opening a new savings account for my £20,000 challenge and I think that possibly ING might be the one as I can save for Christmas as well using the same account.

Right off to wash up and make a risotto for lunch tomorrow for DD.

    Catch you later,

    Tea

  • Didn’t update my diary yesterday as there wasn’t much to say really.

The money from the FSCS has arrived for both DH & I and for a while the current account looked very healthy :) however the money has now been moved in to a savings account until we can find an ISA we want to invest the money in again, at least it will be earning something whilst it’s squirreled away.

I confess that I had spent some money yesterday :o , I met up with a friend of ours at the local soft play centre so the two of hers and ours could run ragged. She was saying that her DS does karate once a week and although he has only been doing it for four weeks he loves it. I was therefore bombared by DS with I want to go, I want to go. So that is the plan, it does however cost £25 per month for a 1 hour session each Saturday.

I also bought DD some t-shirts from the local charity shop, she is in desperate need of some new ones as she’s had a growth spurt recently so £4 wasn’t unjustly spent there I guess, just need to find her some pyjama’s.

Did mange to put some shrapnel in the demi-john and a £2 coin in the terramundi :D

Plan for today is to keep up with the washing and get it dried and to nip to the market to get some veg and fruit.

I was supposed to be going out tomorrow night but I have a terrible cold and feel rather lousy, must be that time of year, so I have told DH he is going on his works party instead. Does mean that I can get the wrapping done without interruption :D

Will try and update later if I can, in the meantime everyone have a good day.
  • hope you feel better soon - hugs

  • Took DS to school and DD and I attempted to get to the market, unfortunately the traffic was backed up such a long way that we turned around and came back home.

So haven't got the fruit or veg yet, think I might have to brave Tesco's later before DD & I pick up DS.
  • Good luck chick xx

Hi Tea! Saw your post on Hypno's thread, and clicked your name to find your recent posts - so I found your shiny new diary! That plan at the top looks good, very good. I like £20k, and I like decluttering, loads and loads. Sounds like you'll need to be listing eventually - I've sold a fair few books on Amazon since I started putting them back up, must have made about £25 (one of my squares on my personal £10k challenge!).

Sorry you feel bad today tho - I feel pretty grotty myself, not got a cold or anything, just hopelessly under-slept, I've been trying to log on to Tesco's to get a Christmas delivery and I think they have the Christmas slots pre-taken, bah humbug.

I hope you manage to get the food shopping in okay - you're not snowed in at all, are you?
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Morning,

DH gave me a £2 coin last night that went in to my terramundi, that's getting rather full now and I just know that it won't be long before I can open it, another few weeks I reakon; he also put some change in the demi-john as he knows that I am not opening it for a year.

Down side is that we had 'heated' words last night about the lack of housework that's been done etc... 'he goes to work for 12 hours a day' blah, blah, blah! I told him that when he's not working at the weekend he should help me out a bit...he didn't like that one! Suggested we get a cleaner and I go back to work and get a childminder that my wage can pay for....doesn't quite work does it???

Anyway, DD went to see the consultant yesterday evening and he has taken some blood and wants to do an x-ray next week to see what is going on; the blood test is to establish what her thyroid is up to, more worry!

This evening, DH is off out for the annual work do and I am at home wrapping presents and drinking wine; it's a hard life isn't it??? :rotfl:

Got to go to Boots this morning for some toothpaste for the kids, nappies for DD and chewing gum for DH, also need to nip to bank to put a cheque in from my mum £48 :) and get some fruit and veg from Morrisons.

    Have a good day all.

    Tea
