  • Hello all!! Can I join in?
    I've put on a stone since last summer. I've been trying to avoid doing anything about it but its getting to the point where I'm avoiding wearing some of my favourite clothes because of the bulges!
    My problem is I love cooking for me and OH, always trying different things, new puddings, etc. I think I just need to concentrate on healthy ingredients, more fruit and veg and probably less red meat (which we have 2/3 times a week).
    Another problem I have is not getting my 5 a day (working shifts I often just eat sandwiches, I know its no excuse!).
    So my plan for today:
    breakfast=porridge with raisins
    snack=banana
    lunch=sliced tomato on toast
    dinner=roast chicken, small amount stuffing/potatoes, loads of carrots, peas, broccoli
    pudding=low fat yoghurt

    I think with milk for tea it'll probably be aroung 1400 cals. Does this look ok?

    You can still lose weight and eat at least 4 to 7 times a day just small portion and a bit of forward planning. That is how I managed to lose my 9 stone. Fibre is your friend as it fills you up as well as being healthy for you.
    Thanks for that purplorc, wow, what a lot of weight you have lost!

    I do try to have high fibre in all our family's diet (DS1 with a slow bowel and DS2 with
    Type 1 Diabetes), so we only have wholemeal pasta, brown basmati rice and use wholemeal flour in all the cooking/baking, including the breads that I make.

    I have taken to having a piece of my HM bread toasted at my night time "supper", as it is much better for me that the HM flapjack
    (very yummy!) that are lurking in a tub on top of the cupboards. I am trying to avoid ALL chocolate and have only one piece of flapjack at most a day.

    Despite not being able to move around very easily, I am still losing about a pound a week or so...much better than when I was on the move last year! So I must be doing something right!

    Now to today's food:

    B: Porridge, made with half water, half soya milk, some sugar as DH forgot to get raisins last night, OJ + banana.
    S: HM Flapjack (perhaps!), or Toast
    D: HM Soup, bread & small piece of Brie (if I get to it before DS1!)
    S: Orange
    T: Not sure...something with chicken I think, must go and defrost it!
    S: Toasted HM Bread, with reduced fat marg, SF jelly & fruit

    Sorry, not really with it yet...have yet to have my shower as DS1 has taken it over at the moment.

    Thanks again for all your good wishes.

    M x

    welcome :D i am a newbie here too!

    your meal plan looks good, not sure sliced tomato on toast would be enough of a lunch for me though!

    today looks like this for me,

    breakfast, w'meal toast

    lunch, tuna & cucumber sandwich

    dinner, chilli (didnt have it last night) with brown rice and some veg

    snack will probably be oatcake or 2 with philly light

    have a good one :D

  • Morning folks

    On cuckoo fairyland this morning :D after having a bad day with my trigeminal neuralgia which was playing up big time yesterday so I had to to a lot of pain killer to get it under control. For those not aware of this condition the slang name is the suicide disease :eek: as the name suggests a high percentage of suicide due to the pain. The pain is in the face and either right or left sided more normally right. But I like to be different I have it left sided :rolleyes:. Not feeling so hungry today after my latest bout.

    My menu for the day is subject to change depending on how I feel but this is plan A :D

    BREAKFAST cereal with flaxseed
    LUNCH soup with wholemeal bread
    DINNER steamed vegetables in season with pork.

    snacks cuppa soup, yoghurt, fruit

    Gosh it is difficult catering for yourself and the family with other health needs to consider. Now that takes some planning and putting the thinking cap on. I have nothing like that. Sound like you have your weight loss plan about on track as you are losing steadily. I am at a standstill at the minute would like to lose a little more weight but not sure if I will able to as I am not able to do the exercise I think that will be required.. Keep up your good work as you seem to be eating the right amount as you are losing steadily. May just need some little tweaks like I have had to make over time to adjust to my health needs.

  • Hi all! A long time lurker here finally plucking up the courage to join you all if that's alright :p

    I'm hoping to lose around 3 stone, I'm 5 foot 1 and any excess weight really shows on me and now it's getting to the stage where I feel like I need to do something about it :o There's just me and my boyfriend here and I cook all our meals from scratch. We're getting married next year and though my boyfriend insists he loves me the way I am I'd love to be a nice slim bride walking down the aisle :D

    So hoping to achieve some weight loss through more sensible eating, less snacking, I tend to snack a lot because I moved to a new town with my boyfriend and I don't know anyone so while he's at work I tend to sit on my home getting bored and wanting to eat. I've also bought a Wii Fit but so far I'm just in pain! :p I've been lurking for ages and really love the way you're all so supportive and helpful and I'd love to join in. I hope that posting on here will help me keep track of what I'm achieving and also help me to stop getting bored and turning to food!

    Hi and welcome! Congrats on the upcoming wedding. Before our wedding, we were going to the gym 3 times a week and every time I did horrid sit ups and abs exercises I would say to myself "walk down the aisle without having to suck in my stomach... photo's will be seen for years to come..." ;)

    Why not put a piccy of a model in your dress on your fridge? Or a piccy of you that you hate? Then everytime you go to snack you might pause - just a thought ;)

    Then got married and it all went to pot again and even more weight went on!!! :rotfl:

    Anyway, I'm slimmer now (without any gym sessions) than our wedding day, but that's thanks to the guys on here ;)

  • What did you put in your sheps pie, that is incredibly cheap? I use brown or green lentils in mine with mush and onions, may do this tomorrow, but very interested in what you used as I do like a change.

    6oz green lentils 4oz split yellow peas (I used channa dahl). simmer til soft
    Garlic (we grow ours so free) 2 small carrots, one onion, 2 sticks celery, can chopped tomatoes, half a green pepper (all veg chopped small) half a teaspoon mixed herbs, seasoning. All veg softened etc in a little oil. A little cayenne maybe.
    For the topping 800g potato mashed with 75g cheddar (also a lot of cheap offers around recently).

    With all the f+v offers around at the moment, like the potatoes at lidl and Sainsbury's basic peppers it really works out cheap. I am working my way through large packs of lentils bought when pulses were cheaper. Lentils have gone up a lot recently though - at their current price I make it at least 33p per portion if you split between 5.

  • 'orrible tea today. Not sure what went wrong (apart from some water escaping from the rice while I was doing my okra and turning down the wrong ring so the rice at the sides of the pan got scorched). Was looking forward to my sweet and sour okra but it was a let down. sigh.

    bfast: branflakes + milk juice
    lunch: salmon sandwich banana

    tea: spinach dahl, basmati rice, sweet and sour okra
    yoghurt apple

    cost £1.45 leaving £4.57
