My biggest problem with the weight loss is motivation - or lack of it!
The thing that really gets me is the evening munchies. I'm sure you all know the ones I'm talking about. When you're sat in front of the tv with nothing better to do, no distractions to keep your mind occupied. Those are the nights where I just want to eat any junk I can get my hands on! Now, I do manage to resist most of the time but cave more times than I would like to!
I was wondering if anyone would like to share their tips for staying motivated so that I (and hopefully others!) can try to learn from them!
I either eat a mint as I have no desire to eat after eating anything minty - no idea why! Or I snack on almonds and walnuts. Or if I'm really trying to cut down I'll decide that if I get hungry (or munchy!) I can only eat dry crackers... it's funny how often I realise I'm not that hungry after all!
Trying to reduce portion sizes at the moment as I think that's my real downfall. I tried weighing out a 30g bowl of cereal and it's pretty much half of what I've been having... sigh...0 -
How did you learn a language with the OU? I would love to learn a language but don't know how that would work with OU.
It's not easy. You get online tutorials once a month and some of use used to meet up on skype to practice talking but I came away being able to write quite well but speaking is another thing! Enjoyed it though!
Ethansmum - I guess you got the idea by now that you are not eating enough. Never weigh yourself the day after a binge - all those extra calories (which by the way still leave you short of the 1700-2000 a day to 'maintain' weight) will hold onto a LOT of water. And water weighs heavy. And sometimes you stick to your diet and you don't lose for weeks. But don't get hung up on it - keep on track and suddenly the pounds will come off.:p
So, bad budget day today: branflakes, leek and potato soup, veg + quorn chilli = £1.89 leaving £7.33 for the week.
On the other hand the in-laws aren't coming because grandma isn't well (gallbladder we think).Popsy0 -
Hello everyone - wow! lots of posts to catch up on! Welcome to newbies and welcome back Bigsmoke!
Purpleorc:T :j - your weight loss is great. I need to lose about that much and to hear of someone who has done it is always so inspiring. Well done!
Ethansmum - I can only reiterrate what others have said and urge you to try and eat a bit more. Try 1500 calories a day and I'm sure you will see a drop. Also the day after you eat sugarry foods your body holds on to glycogen and water and that makes you weigh heavier, but it is only temporary.
On the subject of evening eating - it is my very worst time! I am not hungry but I seem to just find myself staring into the fridge looking for something to eat. I am fine as long as I don't have ANYTHING. For some reason in the evening if I even have a nibble it opens the floodgates and I stuff for England. I find playing on DD's DS is a good distraction - I am currently doing Professor Layton and the curious village and the puzzles are really absorbing.
I have been more focused today and have just had a lovely stir fry for tea. Calories for the day are 1600, which isn't bad, but I've done no exercise so I need to look at that tomorrow. I will dig out my walk away the pounds DVD - it's a great DVD where you do gentle exercise along with the DVD and it tells you every so often what it equates to in miles walked. There are three stages so if you do all of the DVD you have "walked" 3 miles. I like it because the music is nice and the woman doing it is not patronising. Apparantly this DVD is Huge in the States - I got mine on ebay for about a fiver.
Hope you are all having a good evening!Jane

Hello
Didn't sign in yesterday and paid for it. Had a very busy day and food was chaotic. Bought a pack of 6 crisps in Aldi and ate 2 on the way home, then had several very large handfuls of cashews (raw not salted) then tagliettle (sp) and mushroom onions and broccolli. Went to theatre was very good and passed on the ice cream (ben and jerries hmm) just had orange and bitter lemon to drink. Home by 10 had another pack of crisps and saw there was a third of a french stick on the side so I cut a little piece and had with pesto and artichoke oil. Then cut another little slice, and another till it was all gone.:o

Good morning all.
Yesterday wasnt exactly perfect. Didnt have time to find a slow cooker recipe for the bacon and leek soup, anything I did have seemed to have lots of cream in it. Will have a better look today. So tea was the back up of egg and chips with some George Formby bacon. After that there was a rogue box of Maltesers. I have prayed to the weight loss gods for forgiveness.
Today
Bran Flakes
Fruit
Tuscan bean soup
Beef Jerky
The bloody soup!
Bovril.
Enjoy your day as much as you can.

isparticus and procrastinator at SW we are told the week is like a vase with 7 flowers in it, just because one is all limp and no good you dont throw the whole lot away so if one day is bad dont throw the whole week away just get straight back to it. One bad day doesn't constitute a bad week!;)Do what you love :happyhear0
