tilly - OH cuts down on carbs in the evenings - so no pasta, rice and rarely potatoes in the eve. Apparently if you eat it earlier in the day you have more chance to burn it off, but it's bad to eat it in the evening (so he says).

I do casseroles with extra root veg and lentils/beans instead - eg low fat sausage casserole with onions, carrots, parsnips, leeks, butterbeans, lentils, herbs, and passata.

Or I mainly do meat or fish and then lots of veg. Or Shep pie sometimes. You get used to it after a while and I only really miss risotto :o

Chilli gets bulked with lentils and oats and then served in wraps instead of with white rice.

Roast chicken just means extra veg and less spuds.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

tillymama - try using a good natural yogurt for your sauces but not low fat stuff as that just curdles.

Potatoes with no butter/spread on them are far less tempting so you will eat less, 2 dessert spoons of rice is more than enough for a portion, 50g of uncooked pasta is a portion.

If you have space in the freezer have a cooking day and bag everything into single portions (approx 200g of meat is a portion) so they can be quickly mircowaved or reheated when you have time to eat.

Find time to take your new arrival out in the pram, its good for getting them off to sleep and for you to get some exercise.

I've had a terrible food week, thought I'd cracked it wednesday by ensuring I had enough fruit in for smoothie breakfast drinks but have then had macdonalds for lunch (wed) and scampi & chips (today) plus an evening meal :o
I have walked my legs off and not had alcoholic drinks (save 1 pint of lager) to try and compensate.

    Must try harder!

Have a good weekend all and I'm off to get a wooden ruler to rap my knuckles with.
  • Hopefully this isn't off-topic: it does concern weight loss AND money-saving!

We're currently doing well with our own calorie-controlled diet but, but. . . would really like to take more exercise.

Weekend walks are fine (when we can get away) but it'd be good -- re-phrase: but it seems it would be good -- to have some form of exercise equipment at home.

Trouble is, we can't tell a Cross Trainer from a Cross bow. As for 'elliptical', er, well, yes. . .

Question: do any weight-watchers on here have exercise equipment at home?

And if so, what would they recommend -- we're trying to lose weight, not lose money, but the latter is more than likely if we buy something electronically elliptically empirically ergonomically cross-bred cross-trained in our present state of ignorance. . .

Dont buy the equipment please!!! Bought cross trainer (it was reduced to £40 from £90) was rubbish, would rather walk....

Then the lovely hubby decided as I liked to walk/jog but am rather top heavy so a bit shy of doing that in publich he'd get me a treadmill, must say its great, huge though (Is a full gym one!) but I'd still rather go walking /swimming/dive about after kids, sooo its unused,
well actually being fond of 0S I've found its quite usefull if the clothes horses are full!!! And littles dd is just the right hight to swing like a monkey from the hand holds!!! (sorry h&s monster!)....

Keep meaning to put it up on ebay!!! Maybe get round to it before xmas comes and I want the other half of the dining room back!!!:rotfl:

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone ;)
  • Many thanks nomoneymummy. . . seems like you've just saved us a lot of money (and frustration: reading Amazon user reviews of some equipment purchases, it seems the heart beat was only beneficially accelerated due to the stress of the incomprehensible instructions that came with the unassembled equipment.) As we moved from a bungalow to a town house a couple of years ago, perhaps I should take advantage of three flights of stairs and run up and down 'em instead.

    Thanks again for your help!
  • No probs at all.... Ohh i love the stair running... with 2 kiddies it happens often,

The cross trainer was ok but unless you spend alot on one there flimsy and cant take you building up speed, suggestion being if you know of a gym about to update any equipment you can pick up there used ones at a good price and ready assembled (van needed though!!)

    Good luck!!

    Hello

I am new to this thread though not the forums. A bit of background - I am disabled which means that I cannot do much walking though am trying to be more active all round. Had a tumour in my throat - removed nearly 3 years ago now but took a long time to diagnose meanwhile the weight was piling on. Then cos of the effects of the tumour they reckon, I had ulcerated kidneys which they eventually managed to clear up after nearly 12 months. Then we moved to our new place ( after temp accom).

We been here a year almost and are now are virtually self sufficient in organic grown veg, have free range eggs from our chucks and I am gradually recovering.

Now is the time I feel able to tackle the excess weight I have ( about 6 or 7 stone). I have been eating a low fat high fibre regime for so many years I have almost lost count so am well used to shopping sensibly!

I need a bit of moral support as I am alone most of the week though kept busy by the 2 acres and the dogs and the chucks. I am trying to reduce portion sizes as well as eat my 5 a day and I still drink loads of water since the kidney problem. Nothing much seems to affect the weight though @ the moment hence the moral support please!

    Hi Boston, welcome aboard!
It sounds like you already know what you need to do so just to give you a big welcome and positive thoughts for your ongoing recovery :)

Weekend wasnt too bad but relied quite heavily on convenience food as I was packing up someones house for moving so no pots and pans, only a microwave and not much time ;)

B: 50g muesli, skimmed milk and a banana

L: Beans on toast (small 200g tin on 2 slices of wholemeal from 400g loaf)

D: Not sure yet, OH is making it so could be anything

S: Probably a skinny latte or similar as I am really tired and need a lift :)
  • good morning !
