Just a quickie to say hello and welcome to LEMON V!
We all struggle on and off but keep coming back and do mostly eventually lose weight so stick with us!
I'm sure that there'll be lots of people with good advice along later - just wanted to say hello!

Hya Lemon Verbena, and welcome - this is a great forum, with lots of good advice.
I too have 7 stone still to lose (and possibly a bit more, but that will wait until I get there and see how I feel), so you are not alone in having a lot to get rid of.

You will find lots of advice here, as well as great recipes, there are some which are not very good calorie and fat-wise, but you can always have some as a treat, every now and again (but not every day!! :D).

I have lost two and a half stone so far, a lot of it due to illness, but have been stuck for a while. I am restricted in what exercise I can do, as I have a bad back. With luck the steroid injections I am getting next week will sort the back out, so then the pounds will drop off...hopefully! :D

I have found a few simple guidelines that work well with this weight-losing lark:
    • Have breakfast.
It really does you good and helps to prevent snacking in the morning.
If you can't face a bowl of cereal, what about a smoothie, a cooked breakfast (toms or egg on toast?) or even a cereal bar (you can make your own - very OS).
    • Drink lots of water - about 2 litres a day is the guideline (tea, coffee and other drinks count, but not alcohol!)
    • Drink water first before snacking
Just to see if you are actually hungry rather than just thirsty.
    • Snack on either fruit or vegetables
I always have apples and bananas in the house, and have wonderful nectarines at the moment. Beware of grapes and dried fruit (so many calories!), you can eat masses before you know it, so have a small tub or bag with a handful in, so you can limit your snack size.
You said you like carrots, so have some sticks pre-prepared in a tub of water, straight from the fridge they are great!
    • Eat slowly and stop eating when full
Don't clear the plate just to be polite, and concentrate on what you are eating. That means sitting at a table and not doing anything else other than eating - no TV.

Paul McKenna explains this much better in his book "I can make you thin", which comes with a CD too.

    • Exercise if you can
Walking is fine, but try to walk a bit further every day, or do the same distance a bit quicker. Other forms of exercise are fine too...a few folk here use the Wii.
I hope this helps a bit. Remember, this is about changing your way of eating and living, NOT dieting! :o

Having said all this, it is easy to fall off the wagon and run alongside, or even sit in the ditch in a grump! There are plenty of folk here ready to help pull you up and get back on and stay on.

Must stop nattering and get things done...like making a fat-free beef curry using the left over brisket from Sunday. Need to get out some HM stock cubes from the freezer to cook the onions and spices methinks!

    Oh food today:

B: HM Muesli with Soya milk
S: none - at hospital out-patients for hours, had bottle of water though!
L: HM fat-free houmus with tomato, sweet pepper, cucumber, lettuce and toast to dip
    S: Nectarine, A
    pple
T: HM Beef curry, brown basmati rice and veg (broccoli prob, lots of veg in curry eg onions, peppers & courgettes)
S: Another nectarine or banana. Will try to avoid the HM bread and jam!

Off now, have a good evening everyone.

    M

    Hello,

May I join? I will try to catch up with other posts slowly but surely. My aim is to lose 10kg and that should equal two dress sizes (one hopes). Money at the moment is very tight and after this week I am on holiday with DD (4yrs) so she needs feeding i.e. meals need to be "monkey friendly". Also when BF is at my place I feed him (he feeds us when we are at his place which is not going to be now for few weekends).

Well I was really good until about half an hour ago - 2 slices of buttered toast demolished in a moment of weakness.

Will have to try harder tomorrow!!
  • Good morning all and welcome to Marru and to Lemon Verbena, this is THE place to be for real weightloss support. I'm starting to notice a slight change in my shape, the roll of fat under my chest when I sit down is beginning to get smaller! It's nice when you see some reward for the effort. Todays menu is yoghurt for breakfast, soup and a roll for lunch and a lean pork steak for dinner with plenty of home grown veg. Good luck everyone.
It's up to me now and nobody else.

Hi all, Welcome to all new ones :D

I tried a sneaky half way weigh and the scales are undecided whether I am back to my original weight or have lost a total of 6lbs - stupid scales  Wasn't long ago they had a new battery either so they are obviously extremely confused :(

Anyway, as 4money says, my rolls of fat seem to have reduced a bit so will have to go for that and the fact that I'm back in my usual jeans instead of my "fat jeans" and they aren't cutting my stomach off :p

Food yesterday did include a pack of hula hoops but nothing extra in the evening. And I did a 2 mile walk - though struggled to carry the shopping back from sainsbugs!!

    Plan today:
    b: farls, one fried egg.
l: olive ciabatta roll with salmon and extra olives
    d: chilli wraps

snacks - two slices of malt loaf (it's lasted much longer than usual so I have been good :D), grapes and another pack of hula hoops :p

  • Thanks for the warm welcome and a special thanks to Keiss for the sound advice :) You mentioned homemade cereal bars is there a recipe somewhere, will try and go through the complete thread but so many pages and there are other threads to I think? Be good if there was a recipe index for them like they have on the Grocery Challenge.

I was looking on MSE and found a link to the Food Focus website http://www.foodfocus.co.uk/home.php and yesterday I added what I'd eaten to it and the exercise done. It's good because it calculates your BMI, shows you how much you can eat and what date you can expect to achieve your target. Mines sometime in 2011 sadly, but better than NEVER which is would have been if I hadn't decided to get my asp in gear yesterday!

Had a good day yesterday and so far today looks set to be the same I managed a cereal bar and banana for breakfast, not a weekday breakfast person so its the best I can do, but will try cereal tomorrow. Lunch today is homemade tuna pasta salad full of celery, sweetcorn, cucumber and onion which I made up for me and DH last night by cooking extra pasta when we had pasta bolognese for tea. Tea today will be a curried bean & chicken jacket potato followed by a sugar free jelly with half a chopped peach in it and a small portion of ice cream, had the same yesterday and it really helped my sweet tooth stop moaning for biscuits or cake after tea.

Went for a walk yesterday late afternoon, not sure how far we walked but was out for 1hr, need to get a pedometer methinks. About to go play a couple of games of Wii tennis and then do some more cleaning. Good to know that there are like minded people here and I don't feel so alone. Have a good day everyone :)

If you join mapmyrun.com you can map out your walk and add it to your training log and it tells you how far you walked ;):D

It's not just for running, you can add walking, weights etc to it.

hi all :D a definate improvement on the home front, am hopeful that the divorce diet can be at least postponed
i now need to get my diet back on track, i am sure my body must have gone into 'famine mode' and i need to make sure i dont just pile on a load of weight by going back to eating normally.
i have had absolutely nothing of any nutritional value for a week and a half :o i have lived off the odd slice of white buttered toast and occasional bag of doritos :o:o

anyway i have just been shopping and to the allotment and got tonnes of fruit, veg and proper food.

will weigh in on friday and am hoping for a sts after an over 3lb loss last week.

    i need some vitamins!!!!! :D

will try and catch up on some posts tonight, hope you are all ok

    hello all!

not posted for a few days, just not feeling motivated at all, I've been feeling very tired and DH has just got over the swine flu.
I'm off to SW shortly for a weigh in - had to miss last weeks due to work. My scales say half a pound gain - thats good considering what I've eaten.:D tonight I'm straight off out for a curry with the girls after the weigh in so will try and get my ar*e back in gear tomorrow!

welcome to all the new faces :hello:
    Do what you love :happyhear
