Watched that Paul McKenna thing last night. Watched episode 1 before it. If anyone has Virgin Media each episode is on Catch Up TV. A lot of it looked like common sense, and some is stuff I am doing already. I must admit though I am guilty of eating in front of the TV, the whole family does. And subconciously I ate my breakfast much slower this morning, but with one eye on the clock lol.
Im not sold on the idea of hitting yourself in the head to change your mood. I think it would only make me feel stupid. So I suppose technically it does work but Im still not sold! Will see what tonights episode holds.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Thought some of you might like this soup recipe, especially with this cold weather we are having!
Dutch Pea Soup - free on extra easy Slimming World
1 lb dried green split peas
6 cups water
4 cups chicken stock
few bits of smoked ham, gammon or bacon
couple of celery sticks including leaves - chopped
couple of leeks chopped
1 large onion chopped
3 large potatoes
2/3 large carrots
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp coarse black pepper
1 glug of hot pepper sauce
1. Prepare the dried peas by combining with the water and bringing to the boil, boil for 5 minutes, remove from heat, cover and leave in water for at least 1 hour. (I used ones I had already cooked and frozen)
2. Add the stock, meat, celery, leeks and onion to the peas and water and bring to the boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
3. Add the potatoes and carrots and cook soup for about 20 minutes, season with the salt an pepper and hot sauce to taste.
4. You can serve the soup as is but I chose to blitz it but left if fairly chunky.
Version 2 - all the ingredients as above but using the peas already prepared from my freezer - I simply chucked everything in my pressure cooker and cooked on high pressure for 15 minutes. Reduce pressure quickly, blitz and serve! When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -
Can this all be done by simply throwing it all in a slow cooker? Or do the peas still need to be prepared first?0

That green pean soup sounds lovely RL - I am going to get some split green peas because I have all the rest in cupboards and fridge.
I went to Slimming World this morning but it was not the best experience... DD1 was going to join too as she needs to lose weight, but she didn't get up in time and so I had to go on my own. I went in and asked if I could join but the woman taking the money said I needed to talk to the group leader. The group leader was mingling with all the people who had already paid and were either in the queue to be weighed or sitting down and I didn't like to go up to her because I felt really embarassed and anxious. I am not good with lots of people but I felt worse because I recognized alot of them as they live near me (not surprising as the class is a local one) and I have to say that no-one looked to be more than a couple of stone overweight at most. One woman, who I recognized from Weight Watchers years ago, was staring at me and making me feel really uncomfortable - she is not fat and never has been and I could feel myself starting to get panicky. I stood there for about another 10 minutes and still no-one came over to me so I just said that I would leave it, at which point someone shouted "Oh she's leaving now - come back and she'll talk to you!" - but by that time I had started to cry and just rushed out and was glad to get to the car. It was really a horrendous experience and I know that I just can't go back there again. It certainly was neither Warm or Welcoming as the SW advert claims! I will just have to try and do it myself, but I think I do need the discipline of supervised weigh in but we'll see... i wish SW or WW did classes for larger people only - I'm sure that they would be popular.
I had a roast dinner last night but had a much smaller portion and did the roast potatoes in the oven but without any oil - just a bit of fry light. and they went really crunchy and nice, and I didn't make yorkshire puddings or gravy from meat juices. This morning I had two slices of wholemeal bread (small loaf) with extra light philly and a cup of decaff tea. I haven't decided what to have for lunch or dinner yet. When I got out of SW I REALLLY wanted to go and buy a pastie and cake from the bakery, but I resisted because I want to lose weight more than I want to eat at the moment.
Hope you are all having a good day - I hope to be back in a happier and more positive mood later on!Jane

Hugs to you RS.
Well done for even sticking it out for 10 minutes - I'm not sure I would have done in that situation.
Are there any meetings slightly further away, where you might not know anyone? Or do you know anyone that goes to one that could be a friendly face to support you when there?
My sister used to do WW but didn't like one of the leaders or the group, so she changed and went somewhere else instead and found that group much more friendly. My sister used to turn up early at the group she didn't like so much and get weighed, speak to the leader to ask questions and then leave before too many people arrived
Don't let it get to you too much sometimes a group of women all together at once can be really clickly (worked with lots of secretaries in open plan offices so witnessed even so called "mates" being a bit like that to each other!!)
Can you do like frogga and get a nurse to do a weekly weigh for you? Would that help?working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Sorry I am not sure because I don't have a slow cooker. At a guess I would see to do the peas first, just to be on the safe side! Or just throw in a bag of frozen peas instead, slightly different flavor but still good!

Bl***y H*** Jane, I would have phoned SW head office and complained:mad:. At the very least forward your posting on here to them and let them know what class you were treated so badly at. The consultant at that class needs her butt kicked and obviously didn't plan for the influx of new people that can be expected in January. My consultant had a meeter and greeter at the door to welcome new members and show them how to fill in their forms, introduce them to other members, show them the toilets and where to get coffee and tea. We had about 12 new members on Monday and while it was a little hectic things ran smoothly!
I do the weighing and I always try and make the new members feel comfortable when they get on the scales. Mind you I am normally bigger than they are so that helps straight away:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Please don't let one bad experience put you off, find another class and phone the consultant before you go, phone several and tell them what happened, the one you feel most comfortable talking to in the class to go to.

I am also going to creep back in lol.
I have been here on and off but where my head has been all over the place so has my dieting. I hit a brick wall at SW and kept gaining and losing the same few lbs which then makes me want to give up so I binge and around we go in that wonderful little circle!
I thought I would start the year off with slim fast and I am currently on day 3. I dont stick too religiously to the 600kal dinner at night, its usually a bit more but I certainly couldnt do this long term as I am cold more than usual with not eating. I am only doing it until saturday but it has certainly shown me that I dont need that chocolate bar/crisps for lunch as well as a big salad or sandwich and I dont need to eat all day long.
I must say Frogga's idea of 3 meals and 3 snacks sounds like the right choice to me. I am in 2 minds about going back to SW and I keep umming and arging about it but am still none the wiser as to whether I will go back or not. I love the idea of the extra easy plan but it almost seems to complete opposite of what we have been doing all these years lol.
I also have the opportunity to join in a weight management course for 8 weeks in february which is run by the local government (not sure if its in all areas or not).
Half the battle for me is that I want to weight to disappear overnight which although I know isnt going to happen doesnt mean I cant wish for it and then get fed up when it doesnt happen. I am going to be 30 in March and would love to be under 13 stone by then (which would mean I needed to lose 2 stone as my starting weight is 14st 11lbs). I havent been under 13 stone in 10 years so that would mean a lot to me.
My aims this year are:-
Drink more water
Take more regular exercise as I dont do hardly anything
Lose 4 stone before the new year (do-able I think)
Ensure my food carp doesnt affect my little girls in any way (although they are not old enough really to understand that is a huge worry of mine).
Control those portions as I know for a fact they are waaaaaaay off (maybe the years of doing slimming world has caused me to forget what an actual portion looks like?).
Anyways I hope to be back here much more often.
Good luck everyone for your 2009 journeys.2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.
