  • I do hope this is in the right place, its not a fad/ready meal/lot fat so I think (with fingers crossed) it may meet the requirements of being old fashioned and thrifty idea for weight loss. Very simple really, on top of some of the excellent ideas that I have read on here and although I am not actually looking for lose weight myself I would suggest a pedometer. Get one that records your steps for a week and wear it for the first week without making any changes to your routine. See how many steps you are doing, it may surprise you because i think we all imagine we move around an awful lot more than we really do. I have done this for over a year now and try to get 10000 steps in. I am not sure the 10,000 steps a day are a magical number but that is what i decided on. When i first got my pedometer i was surprised to see that i could do as little as 800 a day. I wear it every day from the second i get up to the second i go to bed and at the very least it lets me know that i have sat about too long during the day. I have said on another post on MSE that although in the past i have gone to expense of buying treadmill/indoor bike/stepper/you name it i have had it, as far as i am concerned they were all a waste of my money and in comparison the 20-25pounds spend on the pedometer have been one of the best investments i have made.

I do hope this falls in with the moneysaving old style rules and that it is useful

Hi all, well done to all losers.

Mrsmoneypenny - where did you get a pedometer with a memory??? Was it expensive? I use one sometimes but keep forgetting to put it on before I go to work :o I was shocked how little steps I actually take unless I go for a lunch time walk.

Anyway it's cold here and my car heaters have decided not to work today so it was cold all the way to work. Have just posted for help on another thread and it might not be great news by the looks. So will be off for a walk to get some antifreeze/coolant for the car and fingers crossed. Got no money for car repairs so am screwed if it's more serious (6 miles to work and then 6 miles back again) :o

Still. Not much else I can do. :(

    Food today:

    breakfast: oats, water, nana, sryup
snacks already eaten: go ahead biccies - and a taxi bar to cheer me up - didn't work :(
lunch: HM butternut squash soup and a wholemeal roll
    snacks for later: black cherries
    tea: chilli wraps.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

  • Newlywed, I have an Omron walking style II, i think it was around 20-25pounds, if you google it you will see it. It has a 7 day memory, date, time, calories, steps, aerobic steps, cals, kms, in fact it does everything but do the steps for you. I am impressed it is my first bought pedometer, i have had a free one and it counted steps sometimes, then moving in a chair was counted it was totally inaccurate. This really has done the trick and when it is too hot out here to walk outside i run n the spot, walk round the villa, in fact anything to keep active although in the past couple of days i have been a real slave to the internet and today just 836 steps!

Just googled and it comes up on amazon, the name dietandfitnessresources sounds familiar and may be where i bought mine from but i wouldnt like to recommend anywhere in particular even though both the places have been excellent when i have ordered anything from them
