Well yesterday I had 2Weetabix plus rasberries and blueberries for breakfast, 3 Ryvita with cottage cheese, tomatoes and cucumber, plus some cherries for lunch. Evening meal was a chicken'n'rice concoction with strawberries and rasberries for dessert. No snacks. Does that sound OK?
I have been eating loads of bread as I adore it (with butter!) so am trying to cut that out as far as possible. Also have been scoffing sweets (though not too many and not every day) so they're out too.
Today I've had weetabix and blueberries for breakfast.
Lunch will probably be similar to yesterday and this evening we have planned for chicken curry.
What do you think?
I walk our dogs for a total of an hour every day - not all on the flat! - and I go to Curves as often as I can (minimum 4 times, often 6 times each week).
Am really desperate for results, but my age (60) is against me. The weight came after I had a hsyterectomy about 15 years ago and has just stuck.Resolution:

Good morning all,
Today's scoffs are as follows:
Breaky - Malties & soya milk
Lunch: Oatcakes with tuna, cucumber & watercress & a nectarine
Dinner: Baked potato with a sachet of "fish in sauce" & veggies
Snacks: A few corn thins and another nectarine
I am also doing half an hour's aerobic exercise in my lunch hour today.
Re: cholesterol & Beemused. Soya products are excellent for tackling cholesterol e.g. have soya milk on your cereal (I prefer it to regular milk on cereal myself), eat tofu a couple of times a week (if you like it - I love it). You can also get frozen soya beans in any supermarket - add them to soups, stews and salads.
The key is to eat a wholegrain based, fresh diet, loads of fruits and veggies (with skins on where appropriate), increase your oily fish like salmon and mackerel, cut back on processed foods and processed meats e.g. like ham, bacon & sausages. Definitely cut down on products with high saturated fat, like pies, pastries & full fat dairy products.
And cutting back on coffee and booze helps too. Although having one small glass of red wine per day has a beneficial effect on cholesterol (no more though - getting drunk makes it worse!!)
Almonds, walnuts, avocados and olive oil are very beneficial, so increase your intake of those foods if you can. I like to snack on a small handful of whole almonds during the day - they are very good for you and stave off hunger pangs well. Don't be alarmed that these foods seem high in fat - they have the good fats that actually lower cholesterol and are essential for good health. As long as you eat them in moderation, you can lose weight at the same time.
Do regular exercise too, 3 - 4 times per week - that helps loads.
If you can afford it (and let's face it, most of us on MSE can't!) those Flora Pro-Active products really do work, but you have to eat at least 3 of them a day and combine with a healthy diet, as above. But they are very expensive, so perhaps you might prefer lowering your cholesterol the "natural" way first!
Best of luck and if you would like to chat more about it, please message me.
Hope all my fellow slimmers on this thread have a good day. Happy and healthy eating!
Hugs
Caz

Cazzasmazza -thanks so much for the very detailed reply. I've never tried soya milk or tofu, so new experiences coming up! I had bought some of those benecol drinks, but they are a tad costly so don't think they're going to feature permanently. I love fish, so increasing the oily fish intake won't be difficult - and I adore avocados so that will be no problem. You mentioned wholegrains - does this mean I could have some wholegrain bread??? I have been trying to cut it out totally this week.
Thanks again for the tips and encouragement.Resolution:

Morning all!
beemuzed - some excellent advice from cazzasmazza:T
wholemeal bread is good for you:j I couldn't live without it. Try swapping to a small 400g loaf instead of an 800g loaf then you will have halved the amount you eat straight away:D - I always have 'small' bread.
A chap at work eats a diet to help his cholesterol and he swears by a few walnuts a day in his diet.
am off to work todya for an 11 hour shift so am taking food as the menu at work isn't really suitable for me most of the time.
B - freebie boc of Dorset cereal - pineapple, coconut and pappaya(probably hugely calorific cos it was lush:D) and a banana
L - roasted veg cous cous and a tin of mackerel in tomato sauce
D - HM cheese and potato pie with baked beans and a quorn burger
snacks - fruit and yoghurt.
had a lapse yesterday as our local co-op shop was selling Cadburys cream eggs for 10p each:eek: I bought 5 one for each of us and I ate mine last night. It was a disappointment though - far sicklier than I remember so the other eggs are safe from me:D
Hope you all have a good day xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Hello! And a special hello to the newcomers!
I'm back from holidays in Cornwall (got home last Thursday evening) and when I weighed on Friday morning I was a grand total of 3lbs heavier! Could have been worse I suppose....
Cream teas, cider, fish and chips, fry ups, pasties.... had the lot!
Anyway, got back on track on Friday (with a brief wobble with a handful of crisps) and have been fairly good ever since. I do feel a bit less bloated than I did at the end of last week - felt like a beached whale then!
I'm only working half days this week so I'm at home each day for lunch - I'm tryimg to eat up the fresh stuff (fruit and salad stuff) in the fridge - I went a bit bonkers when I got back hols and bought most of Tesco and Aldis fresh supplies.
I've also meal planned for the week and I'm managing to stick to it so far. Tonights tea will be HM leek and potato soup and a teeny tiny dumpling.
This is today's food plan....
B - cereal (milk to dog)
S - satsuma
L - small piece of cheese, apple, grapes, satsuma, tomato, pickled onion, basically a ploughmans without the bread
D - leek and potato soup and a little dumpling
E - have 2 dogs at the moment that are a nightmare together if not completely worn out (mine and my mums) so lots and lots of long walks and will do 100 crunches/sit ups to get my untoned belly ready for the wedding frock fitting - this is my new aim - 100 a day
Hope everyone else is doing ok?0 -
Cazzasmazza -You mentioned wholegrains - does this mean I could have some wholegrain bread??? I have been trying to cut it out totally this week.

Yes wholegrain bread is absolutely fine. I noticed in one of your previous posts that you love to put lots of butter on your bread/toast (gosh, don't we all, yum yum!) so you will need to think about changing to a low fat sunflower spread or a low fat olive oil spread - one that's high in polyunsaturates.
Do you have a breadmaker?? My OH and I bake a fresh loaf every weekend in our breakmaker as a treat and there are loads of really healthy recipes you can make - we tried a loaf containing porridge oats last week - really healthy and it was delicious!
Alternatives to bread (if you fancy a change) are corn thins (from Sainsbury's) and have you tried oatcakes?? They are very healthy and yummy, although if you are watching your cholesterol, check that you don't get the ones which are made with palm oil ("Nairns" are made with palm oil). I think Tesco sell oatcakes which are palm oil free.
Porridge oats help to lower cholesterol - I forgot to mention that in my last post to you. Porridge made with soya milk (I sweeten mine with Splenda or honey) for breaky is delicious and will keep you feeling full for longer AND is mega healthy to boot!
Hope that helps. Hugs

Morning! Gosh it was quiet on here yesterday....... there just seems to be posts from me at the moment!
I had a good day yesterday, food and exercise-wise, so I'm a happy bunny! Although I felt really really hungry when I was going to bed, but I didn't eat anything.
Anyway - today's food shall be.....
Breakfast: Had malties with soya milk & a coffee
Lunch: HM mackerel pate (YUM) on HM oat bread with watercress & cucumber & a nectarine
Dinner: HM beef stew (made weeks ago & frozen, currently defrosting in fridge) with a baked sweet potato and peas
Snacks: a nectarine & a bag of Walkers French Fries
No aerobic exercise today, but I have planned some for tomorrow and Friday.
Have a good day all.

good morning
havent had time to post for a few days but have been reading.
sounds like you are doing eally well kaz :T keep it up
not doing too bad, my eating hasnt been too bad but i have been feeling really bloated (think it's a bowel thing) not sure what i can do about it, i eat a fairly hi fibre diet and drink plenty of fluids already
anyway, enough about bowelsthe plan for today is:
2 x wm toast (extra hi-fibre bread)
not too sure about lunch, am home with the kids today
dinner will be slow roasted belly pork (with most of the fat rendered down so not as bad as it sounds) with roasted veg.
snacks will be chunks of water melon and will do 20 mins on the wii
have a good day

Hi guys,
All going well here but I am working at home today in self-imposed isolation. Last night my temp rocketed up to 39 and my joints are really stiff so I am staying off just in case it is the start of something bad I don't want to give it to everyone.
B: 2 wholemeal toast with HM blueberry jam
L: Tuna salad or something similarWholemeal pasta pesto with pine-nuts and salad on the side
Have a good day all and fingers crossed I don't have the dreded swine flu0 -
Hi Vixtress,
Peppermint tea or a tea made with ginger, or fennel, or lemon balm, may help your bloatedness. An Activia yoghurt per day is good and very yummy too, although a bit pricey if they're not on offer.
Do you eat a lot of bread or "windy" things like cauliflower/cabbage/beans?See if reducing those foods helps.
It's also good to eat little and often instead of a larger meal all at once and to chew your food really well too.
Hugs,
Caz
