Hello everyone - I have been lurking for the last few weeks and really want to re-join you all as you seem to be doing so well. I was a regular on here at the start and then about 6 months ago fell off the wagon big time and have now reached almost my highest weight ever again. I am starting again at midnight tonight and I am determined that I am going to get this weight under control once and for all and I hope you will let me join in again!

I NEED to lose weight for health reasons and it is heartening to see so many people on here who have dramatically reduced their weight, plus its nice to see all the old regulars still here. I wasn't going to publish my weight but think it may be cathartic to do so - I am ashamed to say that I am now 24st 2lbs.

Hope you are all having a super New Year's Eve and hope that this time next year I won't be stuck in feeling like a fat frump!

Welcome back and Happy New Year:D We are all still here for you. Good luck for next year - this could be your year!! Start off with not being so hard on yourself - midnight on new years eve is not a good time to start a diet especially if you are at a party or are celebrating. If you have had a few drinks you are bound to have something you shouldn't within the first half hour. You will then feel guilty and then give up the whole plan. Start your diet back on Saturday Jan2 - that way youa can get New Years day out of the way, then concentrate on the future. Only my opinion of course, you know what is best for your self:o

Good morning everyone - hope the New Year has started well for everyone. I had a good time at home last night with family. We did a buffet with plenty of syns and we all ate too much and drank too much and had a great time. We put on the Mama Mia dvd with the song words subtitles and had a great sing and dance along:j:beer::T

But I am now finished with the celebrations, it was nice while it lasted, however in all honesty I am looking forward to getting back to plan and structuring my eating better!

    Today I am having:

Breakfast: egg on toast with sliced gammon - (free, heb, free)

Lunch - Roast beef, jacket potato, carrots, cauliflower, yorkshire pud & a dribble of gravy - (free + 6 syns)

Dinner - a bit of leftover SW meatloaf from the freezer served with any left over veg from lunch. Slice of apple pie with icecream:o - 15 syns estimated?

The syns sound a little high but I am allowed 20 a day since I still have a lot to lose. I don't normally use them all although my consultant is always telling me to do so! That pie is the last piece of Christmassy food left in the house so I might as well clear it out now so it won't be calling out to me everytime I walk past the freezer:D

    Morning all, happy new year!

I weighed this morning and have another 2lb off (since Monday) which takes me over the 6stone mark that I wanted to hit by today :D

Welcome to all the newbies, congrats to all the losers, and a line to draw under all the gains.
    Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j
  • Hi
    Welcome new and returning friends.
I did quite well yesterday, met up with friend and avoided the lunch trap. Had small macaroni cheese for dinner then later had a delish salad using up some of the xmas specials - little gem lettuce with blue cheese (only tiny amount of cheese left) toms, cu, carrot, olives and best of all artichoke. The last from a jar preserved in oil, expect it was way off the calorie register, but I do love it so.
Have done well with the walking, up to 16K so far this week and am off out shortly for a couple of hours. Should blow the cobwebs away. Spag bol prob on the menu for dinner. Will take flask of coffee and some clementines for snacks.

  • Happy New Year everyone!. Shelbel - 2lbs off? Wow that is dedication! First day back at weight loss and so far so good. Got up too late for breakfast but had a lovely lunch of jacket potato, cottage cheese and salad of baby spinach leaves and tomato. Just had a snack of chopped pineapple and pomegranate seeds (both whoopsies).

I used up the last of the turkey and made a huge curry with onions apples tomatoes sultanas chick peas and coconut this morning and have frozen it in 2-portion tubs - got three tubs out of it and one portion for tea tonight. DD2 is out all day at her friend's and since I was last posting regularly on here DD1 has decided to go and live in a student house with her bf so she isn't around for meals any more (she tends to come round and mine sweep the fridge on a regular basis though:rolleyes: ) I am not happy about her moving in with the bf as she is only just 18 but I am leaving her to it for now.

I have also made two tubs of blueberry jam with some whoopsied blueberries I got in the supermarket yesterday - I don't like fresh blueberries but like blueberry jam.

I was up until after 2am this morning doing a big inventory or all my food cupboards, freezer, fridge etc and I am truly amazed at how much food I have in - all of it is able to be incorporated into a healthy diet too, except for the 3 tubs of ice cream but it's too cold for that anyway! so I am hoping that I can now do some good meal planning and save loads on unnecessary supermarket shops. The only things I have in which I am not sure what to do with are Qunioa, Cous cous (plain not the flavoured stuff) and bulghur wheat - has anyone got any nice recipes using these ingredients?

Marion, SW meatloaf sounds lovely - how do you make it? I am not doing SW per se this time but I am basing my eating on the general principles IYKWIM. I find that if I say I am following a specific diet like WW or SW then I get obsessed and if I have even a little thing which is not "allowed" or over my limit then I go into kamikazee mode and eat all kinds because I think I have blown it. So this time I am following general guidelines but not counting syns or healthy extras etc. The tomato and bean sound also sounds lovely - how many portions do you get out of a tin each of beans and tomatoes?

    Happy New Year Everyone

Checking in for the start of a new year!

I haven't had a WI yet, and won't until Tuesday. I still have some get togethers and my wedding anniversary is on Monday (OH has booked a meal out) so will wait for the final score Tuesday morning :o

I'm getting back to health now and am pleased to report that my nerve problem in my neck is 80% better, only a few more physio sessions to go :) My general health has improved as my meds stabilise, so feeling really positive :)

I wish everyone a happy and brilliant 2009.

    xx

    Happy New Year everyone!

Marion, SW meatloaf sounds lovely - how do you make it?
. The tomato and bean sound also sounds lovely - how many portions do you get out of a tin each of beans and tomatoes?

Thanks spendaholic - the soup portions is really variable, depending on the size of the appetites and whether it is a main course or an appetiser. It makes 1 big serving:D or 2 large bowls or 3 moderate bowls or 4 small ones!

Here is the recipe for meat loaf I use. Not sure where I got it from though!

    Meat Loaf
    Syn Free on original

    454g lean mince beef
Handful button mushrooms cut into quarters
    8-10 rashers extra lean bacon
    ½ - 1 tsp mixed Italian herbs
    1-2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 small onion finely chopped
1 level tbsp tomato puree (½ syn per level tbsp).
    1 large egg, beaten
    Salt & pepper to taste
Pre heat oven to 200oC/Gas 6

Dry fry mince, onion, garlic & mushrooms until mince is brown & the onions & mushrooms are soft – drain off any excess liquid.
Combine all ingredients EXCEPT THE EGG together & mix well, then gradually but thoroughly stir the egg into the meat mixture.
Spray a loaf tin with fry light and line with the bacon, then firmly press the mince mixture into the lined tin.
Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
Serve with vegetables or salad, or save some to have cold for lunch the next day.

    Hi everyone.
Can I be counted in on a weight-loss programme. I was doing very well on the S/W plan through 2007, then in April 2008, I became ill and had a big op. Since then, I have piled on 1st. 6lb, making me a very unhealthy 13st 8lb. I'm fit again now, and ready to tackle it..but I am weak-willed, and need lots of encouragement. Its not that I don't know what I should be eating, I do ..but I also love baking and producing goodies, which of course I have to sample!!
I'm also very partial to a glass or two of red wine. :embarasse
