Re the bread thing: I find it's a double edged sword - not just the calories from the bread but also the butter and then whatever tempts me from the cupboard to slather all over it. If I have peanut butter or honey in the house then forget it, the loaf is gone in a day.
I've had a bit of success reigning in the bread bingeing by not having my favourite toppings around. Also I've bought Kingsmill 50/50 crustless bread which is 45 cals a slice compared to the usual 90/100. Makes nice dainty toasties and sandwiches. But yes, I lose weight much quicker when bread just isn't around at all!
Gunna - when I started taking lunches to work I found oat cakes very helpful and mega-filling. Just used to take 4 oat cakes and some carrot batons, some flavoured hummus to dip into, a piece of fruit and a sachet of diet hot choc. All of this took quite a while to munch on and filled me up without being bloating.
I've had a lovely lie-in so am starting eating about 4 hours later than normal which should help my intake today.
Breakfast: fruit n fibre
Lunch: poached egg on toast
Dinner: quorn fillet and salad
snacks: have strawberries and apples in the fridge so will use those up2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
Hi all, welcome to everyone, old and new
On the bread issue - I've cut right down since finding out most have a possibility of including sesame (I'm intolerant to it).
I find potato farls are lovely in the morning with poached eggs and bacon - it doesn't bloat me out like bread sometimes has done (but does contain flour as well as potato), they are still fairly low fat and fill me up. Sometimes I have a wholemeal english breakfast muffin split in half and toasted.
When I started to lose this weight though I did find that having soup and just one wholemeal roll worked well for me for lunch and I did lose weight on that, but wasn't having any other bread in the day, so that was my only real bread quota.
How about a home made soup with lots of pasta in it? would that work better for you to fill you up
I also find wraps are better than bread for me too - don't bloat me out like proper bread does. I did see one recipe that used a very thin flat omelette as a wrap instead of a tortilla... but haven't tried it yet.
In any case:
Feeling tired today after my 6k+ steps the last 5 days, so not going to do much walking today - as I've been paid, a drive to sainsbug instead for healthy food (frozen sweet black cherries for a yummy snack too if they are in stock). Then back to walking after that
Food today:
b: wholemeal muffin, two poached eggs, grilled bacon and a veggie sausage - and I did enjoy it too
l: butternut squash soup
d: lightly dusted yellowfin sole (aldi) and some veg of some sort...
Yesterday bought Aldi's medeterranian grilled veg (frozen) that you just stirfry for 8 minutes from frozen - it was much more pleasant than I was expecting at £1.50 a bag - courgettes, grilled red and yellow peppers, onions and aubergine - would recommend it for a nice summery taste. I think it would go nicely mixed into cous cous too. But I didn't check the fat grams on it.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hiya
Didn't so so well last night.
ended up with a take out.
It was such a stressful day and I was so tired.
I hate feeling like this.
I just feel so exausted today
I had breakfast, so thats at least a plus point, but am completely clueless for lunch, and will make bolognaise for dinner tonight.
Hopefully I'll be able to pick myself up to do 10 minutes on the treadmill too
*keeping fingers crossed for today*0 -

Hiya
Thanks for the help have taken the advice on board and am going to make a nice hearty soup(looking at recipes i might like) got some oatcakes as i love them, i am not going to cut out things i love i am just going to moderate myself as it has taken 4 years for the 2 stone to be put on and i have been having a lot of take outs and fast food. My OH can be the culprite of this as he offers and my weakness says "yweh go ahead" lol but haven't had any take out in about 2-3 weeks now and am watching the snacky things i put away.
Some days i would eat 3 biccies, bag of crisps(usually french fries or quavers)then perhaps a cornetto or choccy bar not the best but i haven't minded my weight of lately, i just feel it is getting a bit more noticable round my tummy area and i like wearing tight tops lol. So am going to make a consious effort to cut back the bread intake. See if that helps me.
Although when i mentioned to my doc i am reasonably active and the weight keeps sneaking on she suggested it was my pill i am on and that coming of it was the best option........any thoughts there(i have been on the pill since my weight started to gain). Before i did eat a good amount of sweet things but had a horse and exercised a bit more.
Forgot to add as well i went through a bad stage there of craving fizz and in particular coke and irn bru i drank 500ml a day i don't think that has helped at all but i am off it now and prefer water, fizzy srping water and orange concentrate.0 -
Hi all, welcome to the newbies :hello:
Gunna I used to be on the pill and was super skinny, then I came off, went onto the Depo jab and suddenly I started getting to this large state I am in nowSorry, probably confusing you now but maybe these things do different things to different people
I've also cut down my bread intake and find it has helped a lot! I limit myself to a max of 2 slices of wholemeal a day, or the equivalent in other bready products. I also have a constant IBS tummy bloat and it has become marginally better since eating less bread!
Anyway, food for today has been and will be:
Breakfast - Smoothie with cherry, banana, strawberry, apple, soya milk.
Snack - Handful of dried Fruit
Lunch - Noodles with soy sauce and peppers
Dinner - Lentil Canneloni
Tomorrow is the farmers market here and my mum is visiting next week and asked me to buy her lots of nice cheese and things, I must resist eating it all before she gets here
Off to do half an hour of Yoga and Muscle exercises on the Wii fit now, I might do a 15 minute aerobic session after, depends how determined I feel, wish me luck :rotfl:Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time0 -
hey
havent read the whole thread so i dont know if it has been mentioned before but, have any of you tried iceburg lettuce instead of bread as a sandwich?
just take one big crispy layer of it and place filling inside and wrap like you would a tortilla. Kinda like what they do with yuk sung in a chinese restaurant. It tastes really good, and still feels like a sandwich.
I do this instead of bread sometimes when the mood takes me.

Evening All,
Where has the time gone today?!?!? I've sat down several times and read the replies but just haven't found time to post...
Anyhoo,
Gunna- Its worth asking your GP to reconsider your pill as I too put on weight and gained plenty of spots when I was first put on microgynon but I was given the choice to try different pills but fell pregnant in the mean time :rotfl:
brownsauce- What a fantastic idea  I'm gonna try that with quorn mince and some seasoning...
gratefulforhelp- Never mind hun, at least it wasn't a gain :j And hopefully you'll have double the results next week (whatever that means but it sounds good :rotfl: )
Today I have had-
B: Musli (I'm still enjoying it lol!)
L: Fruit Salad- Forget what I made up now!Salad with wholemeal pitta and new potatoes (Note to self, I really didn't need those pots though!)
S: I'm just tucking into some grapes...0
