Hi there,I hope you don't mind if I join you?
I don't even know where to begin, except to say that I am severely overweight and pregnant with my third baby in four years.:o
Before everyone goes "you're pregnant and not supposed to diet", I am well aware of what is 'normally' told to women, but things have come to a head with my consultant, who has decided, after much discussion with his colleagues and a mutual meeting with a dietition, that it would be in the best interests of my health and the health of my baby, that I either work very hard to maintain my current weight, but preferably lose some.
The dietition told me I wasn't "allowed" to join any weight loss groups for support or anything and tried to give me a diet sheet for 1200 cals a day, while telling me to add the extra 500 cals for baby by eating sensibly.
I've spent most of the day crying, because it's stressful enough being pregnant and in debt, without being reminded that you are FAT and pregnant.
So...am just looking for somewhere to come for support and am going to head off to the grocery challenge place to see how that works, cause I've never done it before lol.
Thanks:oJane

Hya Folks
It is some time since I last posted (over a month or so!). This is because I was in hospital with pancreatitis. I only came out last Friday, after a stay of 3 weeks and 3 days!
I was rushed to A&E on the morning of 18th of March as I had been up all night and morning throwing up everything I had eaten the day before (DH's 50th birthday, so I had eaten a bit more than usual).
They managed to remove a gall stone blocking the duct between the gall bladder and pancreas, causing bile to go into the pancreas...not nice! I then came down with a chest infection and urine infection and had temperatures over 39 degrees Celsius - ouch! So there are a few days I "lost completely". After yet more scans they decided I also had gastric cholic, which they have been treating with lots of antibiotics, first intravenously and now with whopping big tablets.
I am going back to see the specialist next week who then may decide I need yet another CT scan or just a camera-down-the-throat investigation to find out what has caused the cholic. I will also be having my gall bladder out some time in the future, times have varied from 6 weeks to 4 months!!
I am really pleased to be home, but I am still so tired and weak. It's lovely to see my DH and two boys lots, rather than waiting for visiting time!
My back is still very sore...(worse than I went in), and I at last saw the orthopaedic surgeon today, who after reading lots of my hospital notes and looking at the MRI scans, has decided that this four-months-long back pain is "just wear and tear"!!!!! He has referred me to the pain clinic, but that will take ages to get sorted...aaaargh!
I should be happy to be home, but I am so tired, that I spend a lot of the day sleeping. I feel I should be doing things, but I just don't have the strength.
There was one good thing about being in hospital...I lost lots of weight!!!:j
I lost a total of 19 pounds in hospital, but I don't recommend the method!
I seem to have lost most of the weight from my upper body - my face, my bust and my waist...my bum seem almost as big as ever, typical!!!
As it is I am still on a zero fat (or very nearly zero) diet as any fat could cause either (or both) the cholic and pancreatitis to flare up again. I will be like this probably until my gall bladder comes out, that could be 4 months!! The hospital staff wont recognize me then, I will be so slim (I hope)!!!
So I am trawling through my Rosemary Conley books as well as Sue Kreitzman's "Slim Cuisine" to get ideas. The problem also is that I am still not thinking very straight most of the time, in fact I am not with it for most of the day!
Any ideas of easy zero fat meals, with low sugar too?
I am making my own porridge with water and raisins, with a bit of skimmed milk added. I have some 0% fat greek yoghurt, which I mix with tuna to have with a salad or a baked potato. I am also a fan of baked bean with a baked pot., but I rather lived on that in hospital, so it is becoming a bit jaded. We have a pot of home made soup which I am having most days, but watching DS2 having huge chunks of Edam with it drives me crazy!
It's amazing what the threat of impending pain and another stay in hospital does to your resistance to a food craving! So far so good!
I would love a few ideas just to keep me going until I feel more with it to be creative.
Lots seems to have been happening here, but I haven't been able to catch up fully (not sure when I will manage that!).
Hugs to you all in your endeavours to lose weight and attain a healthy lifestyle. This could well be the year for me as well as lots of you to get to that goal, or at least get closer down that road.
You have no idea how long this has taken me to type and correct the many errors, but I am getting there. I also had to keep getting up and down as I can't sit on this chair (nice as it is!) for very long. I have been logged out numerous times as well as the text mysteriously disappearing onvce in a while too!
Sorry this is so long, but I just felt the need to have a natter, and I knew you would appreciate the great weight loss and my need for interesting foods! My tongue is still a bit "furry" and my stomach is a bit queezy once in a while, but I am getting there.
There are great sounds of laughter coming from the sitting room, DH and the boys are watching The Apprentice on tv...has it become a comedy?? Perhaps I need to go and watch it for a while!!!
I will drop in when I can and see if anyone has any good ideas.
Now, off to change my signature!

:cool:Hey, :hello:thanks for the welcome
frogga, you made me laugh...some days I really do feel like a little frog...short and round is defintely the right description for me
RS, thats really great that you were able to lose weight when pregnant! Im currently sitting at 23 and a 'bit' stone, and the consultant is VERY eager for me to lose the weight. The dietition said that if I foolow his eating plan, I could be losing a stone a month, probably more
I have another 20 or so weeks to go yet, so I know I'm only half way through, but the concept of a 'diet' in pregnancy is totally alien to me!
On the plus side, I had some of my monstrous mountain of salad for my tea tonight...a way to eat through 24/£12 worth of leaves!LOL
My main problem stems from the amount of health problems I have which make moving difficult, so it seems easier to go for the burger and chips that doesnt take much effort, or the pizza from the takeaway that is 20% off.
Had a talk with hubby and we have been looking at some of the forums on here for ideas of what to do, and even though we have already had the shopping for the week, we've already started next weeks based on some of the recipe threads we found.
I'm still a bit blue about the way the whole thing was handled, more than the weight, I always knew I had to do something about it, so better sooner, rather than later, right?:p:D0 -
Hi! just popped on to say welcome back to Keiss - hope you feel better soon x
and hello to Kadiya and slowlyfading, am too tired to offer any advice as I've just got in from work but I will say its great here and you'll get lots of support.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Hi and welcome to slowlyfading and welcome back Keiss - what an awful time you have been having! Well done on losing 19lbs but what an ordeal - you must have felt really frightened. I had cholic through gallstones once about 16 months ago and ended up in A&E but thankfully it passed and, touch wood, I haven't had another attack. I know they tell you to eat very low fat but it's quite hard. The Sue Kreitzman books are well better than Rosemary Conley I think - mind you not that I am doing too well in the eating department at the moment. I used to love watching Sue Kreitzman on Pebble Mill at One (anyone under 40 won't remember that show) - I still think her home made fat free ice cream is one of the nicest ice creams you can get. You just mix a pint of skimmed milk with 2oz of skimmed milk powder, vanilla extract and sweetner and churn it in an ice cream maker - or freeze it in a polybox and keep whisking it at intervals. It makes lovely Italian style ice cream!
Did you know that Paxo sage and onion stuffing is virtually fat free? It's nice spread on bread when you are making a chicken sandwich, or with chicken and gravy in a baked potato - the Bisto Best gravy granules are very low fat. The Hellmann's extra light mayo is less than 3% fat, as is Heinz Salad cream light. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon.
I have spent all night eating leftover broken Easter eggs:o I will have to try and get back on track tomorrow but I just can't seem to get into it at the moment, even though I want to lose weight more than anything else in the worldJane

Morning!
Just about to go for my breakfast, which is a rarity for me LOL
Breakfast is just going to be some toast, no marg and jam
Snack, a handful of grapes
Lunch Chicken sandwich.
Loads more positive today, making up a recipe book from the many recipes I've found in the index...?I think!hehe
Speak to you later and have a good day all0 -
Morning all
Well had a good day yest and stuck to my plan (didn't get chance to post it as too busy at work) But found I was really struggling come evening time. I know the answer is to keep busy but I was just so tired after the hectic day. Anyway took myself off to bed when hubbie had 2 slices of hm bread with peanut butter on - I was practically drooling and had to get away!
Today have had cereal for breakfast. Lunch is going to be Hm carrot and coriander soup with pitta bread and fruit. Tea is to be a jacket potato probably with tuna and sweetcorn as that is my favourite. Snacks will be yoghurt, fruit and ryvita if necessary.
Have a good day
xxx"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"Dieting ........... is no piece of cake!!!!:D
