    hi everybody

well done on the walking procrastinator - hopefully it lifted your mood a little too if you have the same beautiful weather that we have here?

last night's tea turned out to be cous cous with raw veg, beetroot and bean salad witha toasted pitta, and a yoghurt.
    today:
b - apple, banana, orange, cornflakes and yoghurt. and a mini box of raisins (cycled to work for the first time in ages so ama bit hungry!)
l - meatless loaf w. half a tin of beans and a bread roll
    s - fruit, oatcakes
t - probably pasta of some kind

    have a good one everyone

Don't lose hear taplady, I bet if you look back through your book you will see a 4 week cycle even if you don't have periods! I am sure you will have an extra good loss next week to make up for this one:j Stay strong :grouphug:

    Marion

That's very trueTappy!! I've not had the curse since an opin 1980something but I would always gain/STS on a 4week cycle.

I did ok yesterday up until the evening  I spent the afternoon with OH at a MH assessment - very draining emotionally. Came home, had tea then fell asleep in the chair, when I woke up I raided the bread bin  I wasn't hungry but I 'needed' to eat:rolleyes: I recorded it in my journal though and I'm starting afresh today :D

Double dance day today   so lots of exercise!!

OK, be gentle with me. OH weighs over 30 stone (sometimes he can weigh himself on the XL scales, sometimes it just says 'one at a time please' ;)) I weigh in at around 22 stone. We both need to increase our excercise (gently please ;)) and cut down on the fat and carb intake and save money - I guess that means fish and chicken based recipes?

Does anyone have any tips for us, bearing in mind we also have two teenage sons who are also suffering with weight problems :(
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

welcome :D:D dont worry we are a gentle bunch!
i am sure the experts will be along with loads of advice but mine would be, take it slowly, the weight didnt go on overnight and it wont go overnight and just make small changes, a few at a time. we are all about sensible and slow here. no fad diets or miracle cures. that way it can come off and stay off.

give us an idea of the type of food you like and youl get plenty of advice and support xx

    Hi Raksha

Welcome along :D . I think you know already what you should do - its more a case of putting into practice! If you cook from scratch and use saturated fat sparingly and keep an eye on portion sizes, I was told by a friend when you make a fist that is your portion of whatever your having - meat, fish, carbs etc. I use this to measure pasta and as I do ww my portion of pasta was a large one!

With the exercise, get out and about walking and enjoying the sunshine. Its amazing what you can find outside your door. Some doctors surgerys do walks which is a great way of getting out and about meeting people.

One thing to have is patience - you won't wake up the next morning after eating a salad and be 10 stone lighter! you also won't be running a marathon the day after going for a walk! (we all do it and 'punish' ourselves for it!)

Take one day at a time and don't beat yourself up if you stray from your good habits, draw a line under it and start again.

Good luck - we're here to help you on your journey

Hi Raksha!:hello: welcome to the weight loss thread! you've made a good start in that you've accepted that you and your family need to change your lifestyle:T we all help each other out with tips and advice. as has been said take it slowly with little changes that aren't too drastic to start with for example changing to lower fat milk, wholemeal bread instead of white, gradually reducing portion sizes.

If you change everything too drastically to start with it will be hard to stick to. Also try and get a little exercise - doesn't have to be the gym(I cant stand the gym) I get my exercise walking, gradually increasing distance and by house work and gardening. The best thing is little and often so its not a shock to the system.

Good luck with your new start and anything we can help with please just ask!

Hi, can I join in please? I need to lose about 3 stone. I'm about 13 stone at the moment and have been dieting on and off for ever. Traditional diets aren't for me I've tried weight watchers, and went to SW once only to walk out in disgust as there was a 10 year old girl there and I thoroughly disapproved. ANyway, I plan to buy some scales so I can see exactly where I am, and cut down on dairy and sweeties to start with, up the fruit an veg and see what happens.
    Here goes nothing.....!!
Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.
  • Hello everyone and welcome Raksha, ragz and Annieg and any other newbies I may have forgotten!

I have had my first "good" diet day for about a week, so hopefully I might be able to get back on track a bit now. I am doing the one day at a time thing, and also giving SW another go, but this time weighing out all healthy extras and syn foods. - Not going to class though, just doing it myself using my books that I got a few weeks ago when I joined.

Raksha - like you I have alot of weight to lose and DD2 is also overweight, so I am trying to make changes for her sake too. I find exercise to be quite difficult because my knees and hips ache if I walk too far or too fast so I am starting really slowly. I took the dog for a short walk tonight - about 1000 steps on my pedometer and after a few days of doing this I am going to try and do 1500 steps on my walk. I tend to only do about 2000 steps a day in total and know that I need to get this up. I hate going out walking though because I am so embarassed about how I look and I get panicky if I see anyone else when I'm out.

    food today:

Breakfast - 1 rasher of grilled bacon, some grapes
lunch - grilled bacon, syn free sausages, scrambled egg, tomatoes and baked beans
snack - 3 plums (the aldi 69p ones which have been lovely!)
Dinner - stir fry of turkey breast fillet, onions, cabbage, peppers, mushrooms, beansprouts and some noodles; mullerlight
snack - apple and a few grapes, some lean boiled ham and Sainsburys BGTY egg mayo (its free and really really nice!)
drinks have been water, can of caffeine free diet coke and cups of tea with milk as HEA.

Sorry about your TOTM gain Taplady. I am not weighing in at the moment because, since I had that Mirena coil fitted a month ago I have had terrible bloating and fluid retention - GP says it will go after a month or so when my body gets used to the hormones!

Marion - I am going to give your breakfast rice a go tomorrow, but I wondered if you use half a mug of dry rice do you eat the whole thing, or will that do more than one portion?

Rockie - hope you OH is going okay.

Well done on the loss Wyrdsister:T

Vixtress - glad your over the illness now, but take it easy getting back into exercising.

Marie - glad you enjoyed your walking while away. Your food always sounds lovely!

Hope you are all having a good evening!
