New DFW - Now my diary!!!

  • Rightiooooooo

Well its one week til pay day!! And god do I need it!!! My birthday night out took the bulk of my money and I want to really make a proper start on clearing things next month.

As previously posted – I got a 0% deal on the credit card – so that helps with reducing that – I still need to read into how I put the overdraft on there… not sure if that’s the right way to go – any feedback would be MUCH appreciated!!

As said before I’ve gone over grocery budget spend – with todays extra bits in preparation for tonights nice dinner – I’m only £20 over – so I’m not gonna stress too much and as my dad has so kindly done some bits around the house and offered to help me decorate at the weekend, I am going to feel no guilt at cooking him a nice meal.

My MS attitude was good though this morning – to accompany the stir fry beef – I just bought a pack of Chinese selection things in Sainsburys for starter – but there was 4 of everything apart from the spring rolls (only 2). Instead of buying another four pack of them – I went to the counter for deli stuff and bought two from there instead – YAY!! I’m getting wise to myself as before I would have just thought – sod it!!

I’ve however, come £15 under petrol spend – which is fab (helps towards Grocery spend!) … so that’s good :)

I’m still looking into PPI on old virgin card – I just think I’m gonna go for it and see what happens. I’m still waiting to hear on council tax claim – I may ring them in the next few days as I’m slowly becoming annoyed every time I walk in my front door and there’s no post :o … its like an obsession! Lol!

Not much else to report really – I think I’ll have more to say next week when I start working out budget for March!! (Jeeeez its nearly March already!!! )

OOOO next Tuesday is pancake day – must remember that!!! :)

    Hi Emms!!

Sorry - everything is just soo busy at the moment at work - I feel like I have abandoned everyone!
Have no fear though, I am still reading!!

Only thoughts on the OD is you ask the CC to BT an amount from your OD and they send the money to the account. This will obviously save you any interest and charges on your OD, but make sure you don't view it as "having extra money". Been there and done that before!! :o Oops!

Time is going sooo quickly. I just look forward to the next Friday (payday) every week and its amazing how quickly they come around!

Sounds like things are going well for you and I'll be back with more when I have the time!

I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!
  • Hey Nats – no worries hun, completely understand!

Thanks for advice on the CC and balance transferring my OD. I received the paperwork yesterday and am going to have a good old read of it this evening. Admin evening on a Friday – oooo what a wild life I lead :o;)

Yes I definitely need to save money – I never get charged thank god – by staying within my budget – I’ve managed not to go over. But yes, you are SOOO right about seeing it as ‘extra money’ – I’m actually going to reduce the OD the minute I clear it – and just leave a buffer of £100 – which I believe is interest free… for the just in case emergencies. I know I will then work harder to try and pay off CC balance before the deal runs out as I want to take advantage of that.

And since I’ve found this site and had my LBM – I really don’t want to be in the red anymore – I really really want to be DF!!!

I look forward to Fridays to read your budget and how you’re going to do! Keeps me motivated … I’ve got til next Wednesday, but it means I can start budgeting now!!

Back with money stuff in a mo!!

  • Good Friday afternoon my luuuuverlies!! How the devil are you all out in DFW land?!?!

Ok so not much to report - apart from with what little money I have left (and I say ....little...) I have managed to buy part of one March birthday present today. Spent £10 - got to get a little bit more to get to make it look more than it is, but I know I wont be spending a fortune!

I've just had a rather nice surprise - 2 days ago I received a letter from Virgin Credit Card, which I thought I had cleared (with loan :o) and closed in August last year. Because I'm still receiving mailing - I gave them a call to make sure all was ok... ... I have £30 in credit which they are refunding to my bank in 3 days!! WOOOHOOO!!!:D Not sure what to do with money but whatever I do will be sensible and not treating myself!! Probably put it towards £50 I owe mechanic. Which means I only take £20 from spare bills money (no council tax payment this month) :T

Ok so next week is payday - and I'm doing an admin night tonight to sort out March and budget. Unfortunately I have 5 birthdays and mothers day too... boo to March!! But people are only going to get what I can afford!

I currently have £15 left from Petrol budget and £20 in my current account. I am determined not to spend that if I can help it in the next few days. If I don't it will go off of credit card.

So all in all, things are good and I'm a happy bunny! Hope you all have a fabbie weekend if I'm not back before then! :D:D

  • Thanks Laura!! and Hi Doodle :D

OOOO I'm green with envy Laura but in a nice way!! Hope you have a lovely time

Well, Friday night - well I didn't do the admin.... :o .... nonetheless I made a fun phone call... I say fun - it was one of the 0908 numbers or anything ...

After receiving the good advice from Nats and reading up on here about 0% CCards and whether or not you can use to clear OD - I'm lucky that mine was in fact a MBNA card. But to be safe - when I got in from work, I made a phone call on Fri night to ask the question.

The guy was nice and said yes I can do an transfer into my current account (and I made him repeat twice that it would be included on the 0% deal until next March). He then tried to sell me the PPI - he was spouting on about "if you happen to be off work, blah de blah de blah" - I let him finish all his spiel, then I very politely said "I'm not interested thank you". He went all quiet - and proceeded to ask me what if I was out of work and these difficult times... "I said I already have an independant policy to cover me for such occurences as I have a mortgage" ... Key silence... :rotfl:

He then tried to sell me that cover, which insures your all cards, keys, stuff like that for £29 a year - I said (very politely again) no thank you - I have that with my bank. (I don't - but just wanted to make sure he didn't try the hard sell!)

So all in all a proud moment as the old (not so knowledgable) me may have signed up to these things... and paid through the nose for something that really is a load of rubbish! And a little sad but I thoroughly enjoyed saying no and having the perfect answers lined up. OOOO the excitement of my friday night ;)

Basically I also had to clear up of all bits and bobs lying around and move some furniture and had an early night in preparation for the weekend of decorating which ensued. My dad helped and my downstairs is finally complete after starting it about 18 months ago and doing most of it, but not quite finishing it off! What a great feeling :T

I'll be back tomorrow with money update after doing admin stuff tonight after food shopping - oh what a wild life I lead ;)

Thanks my lovely readers who pop in and keep me motivated :A

Well done hun I used to be one of those people that agreed to everything too just to stop them talking lol. Now I won't accept a thing lol. We are such good MSE'rs lol.

I bet its lovely having the decorating finished too. I need to do a few bits in my house too but money saving seems to come first lol.
