  • Thanks Doodle - Yes i feel soooo wise ;) It was funny cos he must have thought he was 'sucking' me in as I was so quiet letting him chat away. I was still very nice though in saying no and told him to have a lovely weekend! :D

That's why my decorating was on hold too - but my wonderful dad bought the final tin of paint & we both had the tools, me in the shed and dad cos he's been decorating stepmum's house. It has made me want a couple of shelves and a funky mirror though - but Ikea mirror is £6.84 - so hardly bank breaking and he's keeping an eye out for cheap but sturdy shelves for me - then its done... done... done!!

He also put some nails up for me so my cupboard with mops, etc, in it - has everything hung up now!! SOOO tidy!! I actually like looking in there!! ... its ok.. i know i'm sad :o

  • The usual chirpy Emms is on a downer today :(

I’ve tried so hard in getting the bills down – the odd £5 here and there to reduce my bills account. Just to hope throwing that extra £15-20 I had spare at reducing my debt – after all – every penny counts doesn’t it??

Well last night I had opened two letters – one from my housing association (shared ownership) – my rent is going up like it does every year – but they quote they understand it is hard times, but that its based on the Retail Price Index – as in accordance with my lease – and that’s at 3%. When talking to someone at work today who has a student loan – based on the RPI – that is nearly at negative – all this stuff confuses me … and I know legally they’re probably right – but I just feel I’m ‘being done’ :( ....

So rent goes up by £9

I also opened up another letter – which is my payment protection policy for my earnings – an independent policy which would pay out if I need it – and because of the current market and I guess more people claiming – they’ve put my policy up by £6 – including administration fee for £3 monthly – which I need to question.

I do respect why they’re having to do it – but my frustration is getting those other bills down hasn’t now helped me to throw at debt :( ........

And meanwhile no pay rise at work – cos of the ‘economic climate’

Sorry for being a grump first thing – but I guess here is the place to whinge about all things money!!

  • Aaaawww Emms - sorry to hear you're feeling the blues today! - But I don't blame ye - I'd be the same!

I'm not sure what advice to give to be honest. The best thing I can think of, would maybe be to do yourself up another SOA based on your current figures, get it posted - then re-post the old one next to it. Hopefully that would show you, that even with the increases you're maybe still a bit better off?

Even with the increases, you're still so much better off than you were a few months ago! You've cleared your rent arrears, which is one debt completely gone - and you're making baby steps at getting the rest cleared as well.

You should be proud of the fact that this time around, ok it's not great that you've had these increases thrown your way, but had they happened 6 months ago, if your'e anything like me, you'd have had a niggling feeling at the back of your head that it wasn't quite right, and that one day you'd really need to do something about it - but still continued spending like a crazy person regardless.

Now, however, you've got a really tight grasp on your budget, and you're much better placed to factor the increases into it, so that you're still living within your means!

It's such a pain when you start to feel as though you're powering through everything and really starting to get somewhere - then a wee set back rears it's ugly head!! Overall, I think you should be really proud of all that you've achieved in such a short time - and give yourself a big massive pat on the back!! :T :A :j :T

    Phew - don't worry - sermon over!! :D

    xx
  • Thank you hun!!! xx

I know you're right - just having the old "One step forward, two steps back feeling"... but if I'm honest its probably more two steps forward and only one back.

Having a tough week with other stuff too and I guess the money side just doesn't help ... :o My lovely boyfriend was very supportive last night though (even when I suggested he may want to avoid me for a week) and said he'd be there for me and he doesn't scare that easily... even that text made me cry - i'm so soppy at the moment!!

    Thanks again hun!!!

    xx

    Hi Emms!!!!

Hope you are feeling more positive today? :D

Work is soooo busy its unreal...... coupled with loads of staff off today and a new boy to keep an eye on, I feel like I am doing the job of about 4 staff. At least I will sleep well tonight (not that I have any trouble with that anyway!!)

I am having thoughts about the RPI and increase in your rent! No time to type now, so will report back later (will probably just be some of my usual ramblings and of no use at all!!)

    Laters!!
    start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!
  • Thanks Nats!!

Much better today hun - it is just a strange week (not just money stuff), little bit of a tough week for me ... so it all felt worse than it probably was!!

Did find out late yesterday my mortgage will go down when I finish fixed rate (end of March) - and go to Base Mortgage Rate - so I can chuck that 'spare' cash to paying off some of my debt, and as I'm moving that credit card debt and overdraft to 0% - I think I will actually make a dent in it. :T

Look foward to your ramblings :D

  • Hi Emms
I've found your diary and I just wanted to say well done and give you a hug as you were feeling a bit weepy and deflated. I get like that when I'm expecting Aunt Flo things that I'd normally take in my stride floor me:undecided
Look how you stood up to the hard sell with that PPI selling from MBNA, having none of his nonsense not being taken advantage off.
Be proud honey and good luck

  • Thanks OBNW (I keep wanting to refer to you in Nats diary as Obi-wan... but realise the NW are the wrong way round :D)

LOL at aunt flo - i think that's what I'm also referring to (if I'm on the right track! :o) - but this week is a strange week for me for other reasons too ... today is the anniversary of someone's passing who I was very close to, bit like a surrogate dad to me. He went two years ago today, very suddenly. I'm still very close to his wife and kids (they're not kids as such - they're only a few years younger than me) and although I have my own sadness at the situation, I do get very sad for them. They miss him so much.

To add to that - my real dad, who has been here for a couple of months, goes back to sunnier shores next week. (I always get grumpy when I come back from his and I know I'm not gonna see him for another 6 months). Although I can't blame him at all!! - I still know I'm gonna miss him lots... I don't have any 'real' family local to me, although I'm very lucky with close friends I refer to as "family" (including the people mentioned above) ... I still miss that link.. if it makes sense?!

So the above - along with aunt flo... god help the boyfriend .....

.... it's just gonna be a funny week or so... ..

Thanks for your 'virtual' hug though - much appreciated xxx
