  • Hi Emms!!

Sorry - I feel like I have been neglecting you a little recently... Works been too busy for my liking!! :o

    Nats x

No worries hun!! Know the feeling - I mean COME ON - who do these work people think we are!?!? Their employees ;)

Well I am giving myself a BIG WOOOOOOHOOOOOO :j :j :j :j Just got approved on a 0% deal on CC until March 2010 - YAY!!! Can't wait to tell my current card (who sneakily put APR upto 29%) to erm... go stick it!! Well I won't but I will transfer and they can say byebye to me!!

If I can transfer overdraft too - then that will help!!! Need to look into this

Right with my new motivation - I'm off to look into PPI reclaiming from old credit card!! Here goes....
LBM - 17th November 2008 - better late than never
Challenges - 2009 - Reduce CC to £1k by December
    June - Food £86/£130 * Petrol £50/£80 * Weekly allowance * £80/£160
  • oooohhhh - well done Emms! That's great news!! Should save you a wee bit of cash - and at least then, you'll know that any money you're paying will be coming off the balance!!

The hypnotist was good! I've actually seen him before, and some of the act was the same, but the volunteers were much better this time round! I'd actually be tempted to volunteer myself, really just to see how genuine it all is (not that I'm sceptical or ought! ;) ), but I'd be too scared they'd make me get naked or summit! Don't think the audience would appreciate that much either! :rotfl:

I can't really help with the mortgage holiday idea I'm afraid - I've no experience in paying mortgages - yet! ;) if you would be able to do something noticeable with the money from the 2 month hols, then if it was me I'd be seriously tempted. If the money was gonna be swallowed up, with nothing to show for it, and you could manage to get by without doing it, I'd probably not bother - but then, now that you're an MSE convert, I doubt you would either! ;)

One of my friends did it once, but she literally used the money just to have loads of extra nights out, and go to a personal trainer at the gym etc - the fool!! :rotfl:

Ooohhhh - and how's the hair looking? I'm getting mine done on Friday, and it's long overdue!! I went to our local college the last time to try save some money, but my hair was an absolute site so I won't be going back!! I was having big debate's with myself about whether to get it done this month or not, but I've done a deal with myself, that I'll do the dye myself, and get it cut properly - then it should last me 'til the summer!! (god, I never thought I'd see the day where getting a hair cut seemed such a big deal!! hhhmmmppphhh! :p )

    xx
  • Thanks Laura – and yes you’re so right – at least I am actually clearing it off the balance!!

OOO hypnotist sounds good! I really wanna go see Derren Brown do one of his shows… Gonna have to sign up to his website me thinks!! Thanks on the mortgage advice – and you’re right – I was going to use the exact amount to pay off debts – help clear the credit card and overdraft. I’m still waiting to hear on council tax reclaim – but I’m not relying on it if that makes sense!! I’d just like to know one way or the other!

Hair good thank you! Friends sister does it, so its relatively cheap (like the budgie ;)) I’ve not had much different – just tidied up and colour re-done… I have an all over colour and so its not expensive. I just get her to do it as my hair is SO thick – it would take two bottles of shop bought stuff and I would risk it being patchy. For the amount she charges to do the colour – its about £5 more and I know its done professionally!

Not too sure I’d risk college either – although I’d be more inclined to risk a cheaper cut at a hairdresser’s with a junior – as a senior stylist usually supervises and would rectify any issues. The only thing is the appointment usually takes longer.

That’s my hairdressing tips for Thursday!! ;)

  • Ok money - am ashamed to say went over Grocery budget today .... :o

Due to promising to cook Dad & Stepmum special Jamie O recipe of Sizzling Beef, and have to do this before he sets off back to sunnier shores in March ... I had promised to do it in the next few weeks when I could get some Rump steak from the butchers...

Well he text last night (talk about hint for his dinner ;) )... Sainsburys has Rump steak (about 550grams) for a £5 at the moment. So I went there this morning and with a few other bits am now currently over my budget by £9.48 - but I have no need to buy anything else now. I'm fully stocked for my own meals over the next few weeks until pay day (25th)...

Other than that all is ok – gotta do someone’s cv before cracking on with the rest of my stuff, have promised them as they’re redundant as of either tomorrow or next Friday (can't remember ). Have meant to have done it by now and I feel terrible as I’ve just not had the time!!!

    Hope everyone is well!!!

  • Ah - I wouldn't beat yourself up over a tenner! You're doing really well overall, and in the grand scheme of things, £10 isn't going to break the bank! And for what it's worth, I got Jamie's book for Chrimbo and made the sizzling beef, and mmmm mmmmm it was gooooood! So at least it's £10 well spent!! ;)

Thanks for the hair dressing tip! - I'm off to get mine chopped in a bit! oooohhhh - I'm actually quite excited!! Dyed it myself the other night (thick hair is something we don't have in common! ), so it's not looking too bad!!

Any big plans for Valentines this weekend? I'm sure that man of yours'll be treating you well! :D We're heading through to Edinburgh in the afternoon (a day early since OH's working tomorrow night!!) - methinks the weekend's gonna be a good 'un!! Although - the budget for the month's pretty much out the window!! Whoops!!

    xx
  • PS - do you work in recruitment? Just since you mentioned doing someone's CV for them - I did recruitment for 3 years, and every time anyone I know's looking for a job, I get their CV passed my way!! ;)
  • Thanks hun!! I know I shouldn’t be beating myself up – and I’m managing to keep to other budgets – so that’s good!! Yes hun – completely agree the recipe is so good, can't wait for dad's approval - he's such a good cook - I just hope he likes it!!

    How’s the hair looking?

Well valentines wasn’t too big – as it’s just been my birthday and he very much spoilt me for that. I told him I’m not a big valentines person - and I think he was grateful!! But he still did make me feel very special – and what was amusing was we had both got each other very similar type cards – different makes – but so similar it was a little spooky!!! :D

How was yours in the end?? We did the same and celebrated Friday due to family commitments on Saturday.

P.S – yes use to be an administrator in recruitment so get the cv’s sent my way and did complete that on Saturday!! Yay!!!

  • Hey Emms,

Happy Monday to ye!! Hope you're having a good 'un? Just indulging in a little skiving at work - cannot be bothered with this work m'larky today!!

The hair's looking good - nice and healthy again! It's been a while since it was chopped, so it was a proper site! :o But it'll be a while before it's done again as well - I might try hold out 'til July!!

The weekend was good, went to see blood brothers on Friday night and it's a brilliant show! Although, I didn't actually cry which I was surprised at! :D Saturday was very hungover, since I don't drink quite so often any more, I really feel the effects of it when I do!! Ah well - it was a good night overall so I can't complain!!

Saturday I had an engagement party, which was really good actually! One of those nights you're expecting to be a complete damp squib, and it turns out ok!

Glad you had a good 'un too! Oh, and I agree actually, valentines is a total waste of money, not actually that sure why Cam made such a big fuss of it - think he was just trying to cheer me up, result was though, that I spent Saturday explaining to people "no, we're not engaged - and we're not gonna be for a while!!" ;)

    xx
  • Hope you have a good week Emms. x

  • Hey everyone!! How’s everyone’s week going so far?? All good I hope!! Well we’re half way down – nearly the weekend!!

Laura – Sorry for the delay!! Grrr at having to work at work – who do they think they are ;) Glad to hear you’re happy with the hair – I love that feeling when its just been done!!!

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend!! Blood Brothers sounds great!! I’d really like to do more theatre stuff but until I make more of a dent in my debt I don’t feel like I can justify it!

I guess my (unromantic) view of valentines is its soooo commercialised now – its just ridiculous – Hallmark & Clintons must be rubbing their hands together. I actually think the more thoughtful things guys do is more impressive then the spending of big cash on exactly what the shops tell them to buy you… but I’ve never been one of being “bought” – thoughtfulness goes a lot further with me!

LOL at the ‘engaged’ questions… I’m sure I read a brilliant answer to that – I’ll see if I can find it somewhere… I use to get that a lot a good few years ago when I was in a long term relationship.

Retro – thanks for still popping in :) – I’ve not been too hot on the updating this with the money side lately, but I’ve still been keeping to not over spending – even when I’m so very tempted for that odd little thing!!

Right back in a moment with money update!!!

    Emms xx
