I live 200 miles away from him, he was over here looked at it, and gave the deposit, and said he was going to pay the remainder to my mother since she lives close to him!
this is oregon, and all you do when you buy a vehicle is get a signed title, and take it to the DMV and do a title transfer, and all he had to do is go pay for the title, and my mother would give it to him signed!!!!
then I take the vehicle to him, and all is done and over with, he is not doing that
The other guy will pay me the entire amount, and I will take the money to my mother, and bring him back a signed title, and thats what he wants to do, no hassle!!
I hope this makes it clear to everyone0 -
i'm confused and very tired after reading all this. it would have bean easier to pay your mother what you owe her and tell her to sell her own s0dding car!!!!!make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hey, didn't I see you and your mother on Jerry Springer?0

this is a US issue, and things are probably rather different here in the UKRemember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

well I was hoping for serious replies, not a bunch of stupid questions!
I got a couple serious replies and I thank you guys for that!
but why ask a bunch of stupid questions, I wasnt trying to tell my life story just trying to get feedback about the sale situation!!!
Thanks anyways0 -
LoL throughout this thread I've assumed 'title' is V5... it took me until post #46 to realise it's a US deal. oregon didn't even give it away.
OP: the reason you're getting a little flak is because although you think you are being reasonable and straight forward, you may not be.
If I was buying a car, I would want to make the purchase at the property where the vehicle is registered on the title/V5.
For somebody to say, give me the rest of the money and I will be back in 30 mins or so with the car and the deed would make me walk away from the deal.
As a buyer, I would have faith in somebody who was willing to part with £500 deposit, as they obviously have faith in me as a seller that lives 200 miles away.
I would be more than happy to deliver providing the deposit covered cost of delivery/my time/return journey. If seller then didn't buy or tried to haggle after agreed price I would just pull out with car and deposit.
As far as I undertsand, you are asking a buyer to part with all their cash but then wait while you go to an unknown (to the buyer) loaction to get the title. Whilst you say you have a 2nd buyer willing to meet these conditions, I suspect the possibility of a con has not dawned on them (I'm not insinuating you are trying to con them)0 -
perfect you have the basic Idea, but
he was supposed to go to the registered owner(my mother) and he would have the title in his hand when he was to pay my mother! Id understand if he paid all and didnt get anything yet!
thats where the other guy comes in the picture, he is willing to give the whole ballance, I leave him with the vehicle, as I go get the title and return
he would have it which would insure my return with the title!
the first guy would have already had the title if he would have went and paid my mother when he said he was! there wouldnt have been a problem then
but you see now he wants me to give him the vehicle leave it at his house then pay after we get the title, which in this case my mother dont want to get ripped off so she will not let go of the title without the money in her hand!
if he pays up completly I would have no problem leaving it at his house
thats what the other guy is doing(he pays, I leave him the vehicle, and I return with the title)
And yes this is in the US0 -

The buyer is being cautious.
Id understand if he paid all and didnt get anything yet!

Now this is goodwill on your part and provides some form of security for the buyer I suppose but there are a lot of scams going on. Suppose I manage to steal a car (with keys). I advertise car for sale. Buyer comes to view the car at my address (which I have rented temporarily). I am more than willing to leave him/her he car, take the cash off him/her and tell him/her I will go get the registration documents. Ofcourse there are no registration documents, I have just sold him/her a stolen vehicle. He can't trace me even from the address he came to view it at.
he would have it which would insure my return with the title!

Maybe he spoke to people (like on a forum) and they advised him not to purchase from the sellers workplace but go to the address where vehicle is registered
but you see now he wants me to give him the vehicle leave it at his house then pay after we get the title, which in this case my mother dont want to get ripped off so she will not let go of the title without the money in her hand! From the sounds of it, your mother isn't very amicable but you could try asking her to meet you at the buyers house. He hands over full cash, she hands over documents... though it still leaves the problem about the buyer not convinced about address.
The buyer could go with you to your mother's house. S/he doesn't need to know anything about stepfather or personal stuff. Does your step father stop everybody coming to his address? What would he do if he sold his car... meet the buyer in a car park?
if he pays up completly I would have no problem leaving it at his house
thats what the other guy is doing(he pays, I leave him the vehicle, and I return with the title)Obviously a more amicable person
And yes this is in the US
Phone the first buyer, tell him that he ha let you down a agreed and that unless he is willing to arrange payment/transfer of docs in the way you want... you wish to pull out of the sale and will hand him back his full deposit.

around here theres no need to verify address, once you have the title signed its yours no questions asked, as long as the signature matches the name on the title!
that is the only document you need here!
thats where we are getting mixed up
and my stepfather takes any vehicle he is selling to a friends house and sells it there, which is in high visibility to the major highway0 -
dbryant549 wrote: »to add to the situation, my mother wanted this first guy to go to where she works to pay her for one reason, my stepfather is seargent of police, and dont want too many people knowing where they live, and this guy keeps insisting that I take him to her house and pay
If you mean the buyer has seen the V5 and your parents address is on the V5 then that is perfectly understandable that he wants to see you have access to the registered address, and talk to the Reg Keeper. If that is what you mean, then he already knows your parents address as it is on the V5 and will be on the V5 after it is registered to him (previous keeper).0
