CB is going up to £20 a week for the 1st child in January.
But for other children think it's only about £13
    :j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j
  • Where does it say that?
Thats a bit strange seeing as wont be claiming till the 36th week

Is was on here but it has changed since ! Why won't you be claiming until 36 weeks ? You can clearly claim from 29 weeks .

It is here , couldn't see it
    1. In the 2006 Pre-Budget Report, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that, in recognition of the importance of a healthy diet during pregnancy, from April 2009 every mother-to-be would be eligible for Child Benefit from the 29th week of her pregnancy. Treasury Ministers subsequently decided that provision should be payable as a new single payment called the Health in Pregnancy Grant.

Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !
  • It's not about when we're elligible Natalie, it's about when it becomes available... On 5th April next year I'll be 36 weeks pregnant so will be claiming then... When I'm 29 weeks pregnant it won't be available...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Oh yeah , forgot about that bit ! but my midwife reckons I can put the claim in before that anyway , will have to wait and see as on 1st April I will be 38 weeks , that's so long as baby does not come early !

i cant believe the benefit system has changed so much. i had no idea about benefits as such till i started looking at this board. It doesnt seem so long ago when i had my son in 1968 we as a family got nothing, zilch. if you couldnt manage of what you earned, tough, thats the way it was. Not even family allowance or child benefit as it is called now, it was only paid for the second child. Apparently it only changed when it became child benefit in 1978 and was then payable for all children including first born.
Just as an aside i was 18 in 1968 and forty years on still with the same fella,
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
