bargainbird
I got a couple of different spice mixes in a shaker from Lidl a while ago - think they are paprika with coriander etc.
Esor
Could you use the inside (waxed paper bit) of a box of cornflakes or something like that?
Posted book that sold to France, and got a few bargains at Sainsburys, mature cheddar and bacon joint as well as chicken thighs.
Had some crusty bread and cheese for a late lunch and feel stuffed!
Have just put chicken thighs in the Remosa - gave them 20 mins then turned and added spice mix. potaoes are on the hob par boiling then I will let them cool, peel and either quarter them or do chips.
DD(14) is in shock because she has found out how much ipods cost- she thought they were about £50 so asked for one for Christmas:eek: .
She is now convinced there is no way she will be getting one;)"This site is addictive!"

Soapy speak to your midwife about your "floater" in your eye - could be a sign of high blood pressure. Good luck with the membrane sweep - I had one with DD2 - the Dr doing it was wearing a light blue shirt and didn't think to put on an apron....my waters burst there and then and soaked him....luckily he saw the funny side"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Thanks for the tip elona, unfortunately we are a cereal free household! OH doesn't eat it and I'm not that keen either, we used to keep some in for my sister when she lived near (well practically with us) so I'll double check the cupboards in case there is some hidden.
I've gone on 'cooking' sprees before Bargainbird but mostly they ended in disaster after disaster with the odd edible thing peeking through! Never had the support of somewhere like this before though and always used to end up spending loads on wasted ingredients coz it didn't work or I made something once and never again so threw the ingredients out. I could always bake a bit, my Mam taught me that and it's normally worked out.
All I can say is if I can do it then really ANYONE can!
Pies for dinner made, managed to salvage the pastry by using loads more flour, mixed in and on the board for rolling. I've even topped them this time (used breadcrumbs the last time) so we'll see how it goes. Got a friend coming tonight and bless him he's had a few of my disasters so he'll be surprised I think if it works out. He works with the OH who has been telling him of my delights lately so I hope they're nice! Still got to make white sauce (hopefully with less panic than yesterday!) and build a lasagne for tomorrow, make a ginger biscuit cake (easy but more mess) and dip some hobnobs in chocolate. Phew! Not sure I'm gonna fit it all in but hey ho, could always do something tomorrow if needs be.
BTW I might have given the impression that my operation is tomorrow but it's just a surgical consult, I know it is going to result in the op though (providing the lumps haven't temporarily 'disappeared' by then, as happened with one ear last time). Still nervous though as I know what it's leading too. Mind, if they come back again after two surgeries on my left ear I think I'll just have to learn to live with them and never wear earrings again (which would make me sad as I have some beautiful antique amethyst ones that my OH bought me as a surprise for christmas one year when I thought we had no money (he saved up all year bless him) and some lovely diamond ones that he got me for my 21st birthday. My mam also has some lovely diamond ones that I wanted to wear on my wedding day...will have to think of something else old and borrowed I suppose! Plenty of time, we wont be able to afford a wedding for years yet...though with all the money I'm saving by cooking from scratch perhaps it will be quicker than I thought.
Right, now I've bored you with my looooong post about nowt much I'm gonna go and see what else I can get done in my bombsite of a kitchen, DW first I think! Also got washing to put out to dry (indoors, again).
Hugs to everyone and thanks for the support, it really does seem to be making a difference to my cooking and it's made it a lot cheaper than I ever thought it could be x0 -
Esor - I love hearing about how you are doing. I am aspirational old style, and struggle. I do try and I am impressed you tried pastry - every attempt I've made at pastry could have been used to tile a floor.
I will probably be not posting for a few days. My darling father will be arriving the day after tomorrow, so tomorrow will be doing all the stuff I should have done this week depending on little bear. Then my father will theoretically be here for a few days, so I will be less on the computer.
So - hugs to all, healing wishes to those who are in need of them, Hester- I do wonder what Mrs Degree will come up with next? Have you considered keeping a log of what she actually does to help you (not hard ) and presenting it to your/her supervisor? Fingers crossed that the tablets keep working!
Tonight I have left it too late for the cottage pie so I will be slicing up tinned potatoes (value ones!) and frying them up with onions and some herbs to go with the cold brisket.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

I dont think you can say that anymore, not going by your cook-ins over the last few days, carry on like this and we will be calling you Rosemary or Delia even :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

wannabe sybil, thanks for that, I worry that I am boring people, lol. With the shortcrust pastry I have been using vegan pure marge and that seems to make a really sticky mixture, if you add extra flour (just a bit) and mix that in and then roll it with loads of flour it seems to work ok, gave it a nice crumbly (but stable) texture last time so fingers crossed for the same tonight. Also the Pratchett books are my absolute favourite (esp. the Discworld ones), been collecting them second hand for a few years and need to sort them out now to work out which ones I need an which ones are duplicates. Will get around to it eventually!
Enjoy having your father around, don't push yourself too much tomorrow, if you set too much you wont get it done, trust me, that's what I do everyday! I always clean like crazy for parental visits, luckily mine are quite messy (not dirty, just cluttered) but the OH's mother is prolly never impressed (ho hum, can't please everyone).
Will prolly pop on tomorrow at some point but will be AWOL for the weekend as we're staying with friends. They live in the middle of nowhere in Northumberland and it is beautiful, even at this time of year! Cold though so washed a load of jumpers and vest tops for extra layers. We take our cat too and, after some initial apprehension, she loves it. They have a dog so we are trying to slowly introduce them to each other and so far so good. Mostly we try to keep them seperated though as we're so tense when they're in the same room! They also have a budgie, which has caused some problems. Twice the cats nearly caught and eaten the poor thing so we have to be EXTRA careful this time. It's like a proper little holiday each time we go, really restful (despite staying up UBER late!) and they always make lovely food for us. Which is why I'm determined to take some stuff this time and share my newfound cooking skills.
I abandoned the kitchen before when I said I was going back to it, went in the bath instead! Have put the DW on now though and tidied away a few things so it's a bit better. The dish I want to use for lasagne is in and the pan for the white sauce so I guess that will have to wait, what a shame! Also doing the ginger biscuit cake tomorrow (at least it'll be fresher that way). Got some washing to get out of the machine now and I should clean the kitchen some more but that may wait as I can't be bothered, lol.
*huggles* to all again.
*EDIT* Pippa.S - My OH called me Martha Stewart the other night and asked if I could do some fraud too to make money! And oddly enough my name is Rose Mary (not Rosemary though)0
