  • Hello all!!

I know I am not quite at the flylady stage due to the fact I am still in bed but I have been doing a bit of thinking and reading this thread is filling me with inspiration.

I was made redundant yesterday and am having today and tomorrow as two days well earned holiday. I am hoping that I can get some seasonal/temp work from next week somewhere quite local.

I am quite surprised at my initial reaction to this whole situation as I am a natural born worrier but it appears once it comes to crunch I can handle things quite well.

I have a bit of an awful year due to about 15 weeks off work due to work related stress and a nasty bout of depression (returned after 10 years) but I got over that, helped by therapy at my local gp surgery. Also, I was in the middle of being sued by my builder for not paying for his rubbish finishing of a £36,000 extension built at the rear of our home using all of our savings. The court case lasted over a year, the work itself is still being finished as we speak (hopefully finished before Christmas) and the Judge was definitely in our favour. But that was also a very bad time for us. Also it was well chronicled on this fair forum!!!

So out of two uncomfortable situations I am proud to say I have battled them out, stood up to the culprits and I have come out of them okay.

Now the redundancy, I am employed (or should I say 'was' employed) within the construction industry as H&S. As everyone is aware construction isn't doing too good at the moment and its extremely difficult to find a job in the North East region so I am looking forward to going out and doing something that I may not have done before.

    That's next week!

So now I am awake, inspired and raring to go. This is what I have to do today:

    Clean bathroom (half an hour)
Sort out washing and chuck the first load in
    Dishwasher to load and start
Kitchen to dust and clean (flooring work still ongoing, dusty, untidy and messy)
Front room to dust, tidy and hoover (2 internal doors from kitchen residing in front room along with all of my ebay items and a tile cutter)
Spare room to ransack and dump all of unnecessary items that are filling the storage - this is to enable me to get aforementioned ebay items out of sight!!
Strip bed, dust and polish our lovely bedroom (only decent room in the house at the moment)

I am only going to commit myself to these chores for now because I am so easily distracted these probably won't get done at all!!

    Oh well, wish me luck.

Onwards and upwards as they say!!

  • Sorry to hear about your redundancy - I'm in the same situation myself, but have got an interview today and one next week. Neither are jobs I particularly want but hey ho!

Also got a meeting at school for fundraising (need that myself!) and then just got lots of boring household jobs to do. Dinner is chicken and veg curry, we were supposed to have that last night but it was still frozen so we had a chili that was due to go in the freezer but it was full.

I listed a few things on Amazon yesterday and I will sort out 3 things for ebay today. I would like to do more but have so much else to do. 3 is realistic.

All other money saving going well. Bought two more Christmas presents at a Body Shop party last night. I had allocated £20 per person but there was 20% off so I treated myself - not the best behaved thing to do. :p
  • Sorry to hear about your redundency, my DH made laid off in July he too worked within construction but thankfully has just started a job..... good luck on the job front caroline73 and dirtyepic.

  • Morning All,

Again chilly and wet in the 'Burgh'. Had a good meal out last night on the Boss. Not got much to do today except pick up drycleaning at lunch (must remember!!)
Got Indoor & Outdoor hockey training tonight so it's just a slice of toast and a banana on the go later. Don't usually get in until 10pm and won't be hungry then. It will be baltic...
Waiting on a few deliverys from online xmas shopping which should arrive today or tomorrow. Got to get flat tidy sometime as looks like bomb has hit it:eek:
Hope everyone else is all good today.HUGS all round:D

  • From yesterday 11.30pm :o

    1. Really proud because I cooked the small piece of brisket in the slow cooker and from a piece of meat costing less than six pounds I have had one meal (yesterday) of soup with dear heart and little bear, frozen another meal of soup for me, dear heart and little bear and already had cold brisket with home made wedges tonight and it looks like cottage pie tomorrow.
    2. Rather overdid the garlic granules on the potato wedges, so whatever happens tonight, we are safe from vampires.
    3. Can't get through to drs to make an appointment for little bear who has started to cough. It doesn't sound life threatening, but I never get coughs, so I have no experience of this, and I just want to be sure. Also I suspect little bear has inherited a share of my drama queen talent and dear heart's talent for theatre. His imitation sneezes are really impressive, then he giggles.
    4. Haven't had a brick through my window yet from any neighbours, and will try and find out what is going on tomorrow
    5. Covered in itchy spots, particularly along the line of my sciatic nerve - where I had shingles a few years ago. I'm trying to convince myself that evil cat has got fleas mail order

Beth - I am useless after an anaesthetic, it reduces all the checks that keep emotions in order, so it is quite usual to be a bit emotional or, in some cases, odd. I once came round half way through demonstrating how to walk like a model. In my case a fuller figure big boned model who is in no way suffering from underfeeding. The dentist was trying not to laugh, but he was almost on the floor with it. I just plan around getting sleep for the rest of the day. I hope you feel better tomorrow, and that you get easy healing - which (hint hint) will be easier with rest (hint hint). Fingers crossed for you, anyway.

Hugs to all - candygirl, I do hope you are okay, along with so many others who are struggling.

    I do like that colour!

I think the tablets may be wobbling me - I feel very drowsy. I have had lots of cuddles from little bear this morning who is still green nosed and coughing, but who is now settling down for a nap. And so shall I.

This afternoon I shall be definitely OS'ing as I have a man from the council coming, I have a delivery from Sainsburys coming and I really need to make a start somewhere in the house. Also dear heart is poorly so if he comes home to clean sheets on bed, cleaned room, nice home cooked food & cuddles then all the better. Cottage pie for tea with the last of the brisket.

    Hugs to all

Beth - I do hope you are doing okay.

Dirtyepic & Caroline73 - good luck with the job hunt.

Bargainbird - good luck with the present hunt!

I feel much better on the tablets, but not sure quite how they are affecting me!
Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!
  • Good luck dirtyepic, i work in the construction industry and it's tough right now. holding tight that the company will be ok, redundancy sucks big time!
Silver lining is that now you can think about what you would like to do that you never had a chance to do before.

    YOU CAN DO IT!!

    Morning all!

Bit grey looking here today! Have done very little this morning other than make packed lunches and have a bath! Not quite sure where the time has gone lol! Must be on a go slow as haven't been to bed yet, due to working last night, and I'm off out to meet a friend later, hopefully she's going to help me find a 70s stylee outfit for Sat night and for the Abba night I'm going to in a couple of weeks - I've been watching Mamma Mia for inspiration, well that's my excuse lol!

Will catch up tonight as I'm not working, at least I hope I'll catch up and not fall asleep on the sofa again, only to wake when I'm frozen! Dinner will be turkey and veg pie, will be topping it with a dumpling mix rolled out into a sort of pastry type lid, recommended by a friend at work who is a fab cook, apparently tastes like dumplings underneath and pastry on top, sounds good to me, so I'll have to do a veggie version as well!

Have a good day everyone, hugs to all who need or want them xx

  • Good morning all!

Well, I thought I'd save DH the trouble of doing the grocery shopping yesterday as he is full of a cold. I haven't been out the house for over a week but thought a slow walk round Sainsbury's might spur on JR. My bump was touching the steering wheel all the way there!
I have his cold too, it's gone all through the family but I don't seem to have it as bad as everyone else.

I was so disappointed in Sainsburys. I had every intention of buying the things needed to get my old bread machine out again. You are all such an inspiration! I picked up a bag of strong white flour then noticed they had no dried yeast whatsoever and had completely sold out of their basics dried skimmed milk! I therefore put the flour back. Pointless just buying that if I still won't be able to make a loaf!

Someone mentioned that ironing is a good way to bring on labour. Unfortunately I only have four things in my ironing pile as I'm up to date with my washing but I'll do them and see if it works! I'm also sitting here eating fresh pineapple that I bought yesterday. Someone else suggested that as a labour inducer. Nothing working yet though!

I've got to go and do the washing up in a minute, then I'll iron those few bits and then I'll put my feet up with a cuppa.
I have a midwife's appointment later and it might be TMI but they are going to do a membrane sweep to see if that'll do anything. Not looking forward to that at all!!

So if you don't see me tomorrow, you'll know either the ironing, pineapple or midwife's trick has worked!

    Hugs to all.
    xx
I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!

  • Morning all,

Off work today but my parents arrive for the w/e tomorrow so a clean is definitely in order. Ds1 has school exams this week and then has Grade 5 violin tomorrow and ds2 has Grade 2 piano as well and then he has Grade 1 trumpet next week -so I'm a bag of nerves.

Sorting out the clean washing mountain ATM and then need to do the spare room - I took the curtains down a month ago, washed and ironed them and still haven't put them back up:eek: . Tons of bedding to wash.

Packed lunches are hotdogs (frozen as leftovers from a BBQ in August), oj, sunflower seeds (More with Less) and yoghurt and fruit for ds1. I shall make a quiche today as there is smoked salmon that needs using up - dinner will be something from More with Less using some chicken thighs I have defrosted.

Hugs to Caroline and dirtyepic re the redundancies - and good luck bargainbird - could you look for a family jigsaw or game in the charity shops - I see some that look brand new at times - that would be a pressie for all the family.

Have a good day everyone - that salad sounds yummy, Thriftlady
