    afternoon all

Many thanks for all your good wishes for my sixtieth birthday and for the poem moany, i am having a lovely day and have been spoilt with presents from all the family and homemade cards from the dgs's to treasure

i feel lucky to have reached this age as i lost my Mother when she was thirty one, i achieved my dream of being a staff nurse in the days that matron ruled with an iron fist and looked like she came out of carry on nurse ( hattie jacques lol) and compassion and very little pay was the order of the day

fast forward i have a family to be proud of and a great job working with special needs Lo's, i hope to take a leaf out of Jackie0's book and keep on learning

    thinking of Lesley and Tristan
sorry to hear about your oh's Nan essex-girl

Beth hope the op went ok

hugs to all who need them, have just read quickly through

Had a fruitful and very enlightening meeting with the welfare rights lady, I urge you all to get relevant benefit help if/when you ever need it

Easier said than done sometimes, OH has had her tribunal date through for her DLA, only applied for it in September '07. What/who/were can I get info on these welfare rights ladies?

Essex-girl, sorry to hear about OH's Nan.

Sybil, don't panic, you haven't done anything.

  • Hi All
DH came home from work yesterday evening lugging a huge commercial carpet cleaner with him that he borrowed from a friend and got straight into cleaning the carpets from top to bottom?!
And he also bought in a carrier bag full of potatoes from a customer (usually start getting chocolates this time of year but i'm not complaining!).

    Hi Dear friends,
I got home at 4.30 hosp said I could leave providing I ate and drank something, so I did, eeuck, I always say never eat on an empty stomach.
DH stayed at the hosp with me all day doing Sudukos (he knows what I'm like) just incase I could come home. Feeling a bit woozy but so glad I went through with it.
When I had the right hand/arm done I felt everything but no-one belived me. I explained that to the anethetist so he gave me extra whoo-hoo stuff. :T

DF's who are staying with us bought me some lovely flowers and have offered to book into an Hotel until their building work is finished, I wont hear of it. They are no trouble at all. I have shown them the marvells of stardrops, vinegar/newspaper and they have been suprised at the MSE OS recipes, hints tips etc. Converts in the making.

DH is boiling a gammon joint, baking criss cross jacket pots, roast shallots and sweetcorn, for pud he is serving part melted chock ices on my HM shortbread topped with Elmlea. What a star he is.:A

I will catch up tomorrow with all posts but for now I'm going to pop in and join DF's and DH in the kitchen, DH has just put a glass of Brandy in front of me and as I don't like to drink alone I shall join them.

Thank you all so much for your kindness, have been quite tearfull all day (think it's the anisthetic) but can blame you now.;)

Glad to hear that it all went well Beth, make sure you don't do anything more than lifting your glass. You're braver than I am I chickened out of having operations on my wrists. I had good reasons and my GP agreed with me.

Twink, congratulations on becoming a pensioner, it's great the government give you money. Before I get shouted at, I am joking. We had a laugh in Boots yesterday, I bought some cleanser and stuff and DH pulled a face when he heard the price so I said I had bought it from my winter fuel payment. The young lady who was serving me was quite puzzled and didn't know if I was being serious so she lectured me about the importance of having the heating on. Bless!
Twink, I also trained to be a nurse in the days when matron ruled with a rod of iron and the consultants were all like James Robertson Justice. Matron was very sweet really she caught me having a crafty fag once but pretended not to know what I had been doing. That was in the days when patients were allowed to smoke in bed!!!
    Enjoy the evening.
  • wannabe sybil just wanted to post to say please check with your local Environmental Health Officer and get as much info as possible. A few summers ago a man knocked on my door. He told me that someone had made a complaint against me for noise nuisance! I was upset as I didn't want any kind of trouble registered against my address and asked him to please check with the person who had complained. Turns out the neighbour who had complained had given them the wrong house number and it was a neighbour two doors up from me (who suffers from manic depression but unfortunately doesn't like taking his medication) who was the culprit.

I hope your neighbours were understanding but please don't get yourself in a state about it. Mistakes happen. Contact your local Environmental Health office and tell them what's happened.

twink glad to hear you had a lovely day. xx

Beth take things easy for a little while, won't you? I think you earned it today. ;) BTW who typed that long message for you?? I hope you weren't using both hands!!! (:naughty: naughty, naughty) Hope you're on the mend soon.

    Happy Birthday Twink! :bdaycake: :bdaycake:

    Betheebee

Glad you are back home and make sure that you rest.

    Redruby

Pleased you found something suitable for DD!

Made a brunch for me and DH as he was home today and then ended up making three different things for tea.

DD(14) had leftover mince and potatoes with gravy. Me and DH had a Spanish omelette and I used leftover mashed potato and tiny piece of cooked chicken to make a sort of stuffed potato cake with onion, peas and chicken in it for DD(23).

Still have some potato scones left for tomorrow.

Managed to get some turkey mince in Sainsbury along with sausages and veg for tomorrow so might make home made burgers or kofta kebabs with the mince.

    Hugs to everybody.

  • Good evening all,

Hope everyone's day has been a good one. I've felt very draggy and run down today. I got nearly 8 hours sleep last night so hope I haven't caught a bug. OH and I have decided we shall have a very early bedtime tonight. It's 7.06pm and I'm looking at the clock longingly. :rotfl: We're taking our furchild out for her last walk of the evening soon. She can enjoy a good long sleep with us. She's a great bed warmer as she heads under the covers and curls up by my legs.

I've made it to the 26th of November and have still not turned on the fire. No central heating in our wee flat. I've been doing more baking lately though and it feels nice to leave the door open when done.

I tidied up this morning and put the clean dishes away. Tea tonight was scotch pies with gravy, steamed cauliflower, green beans and beetroot. No OS cooking on that but I did manage to bake a sheet or two of cookies from the dough I made earlier this week. OH was quite happy to sample one with his coffee after dinner.

I've put a package of mince in the refrig to thaw for tomorrow night's tea. Think I'll make a nice meatloaf and some veg to go along with it. With just the two of us, there will be plenty of leftovers for another tea or to make sandwiches with for our lunches. It's thanksgiving day tomorrow in the states. All my friends there are asking if I miss it. I told them only the eating but not the cleaning up afterwards. ;)

A very happy birthday to you Twink. So pleased to hear you've enjoyed your day. May you have many many more to come.

Beth, glad to hear the op went well. Take it easy and rest please. You'll heal more quickly if you do also. I've found that anesthesia can give me the boo hoo's also in the past. Let your OH and DF's pamper you for a change.

Sybil, just relax about the neighbours. If they don't believe you reported them, it's all good with them. Just call the proper authorities and make sure they know you didn't report them. The neighbour 3 doors down sounds like a real joy to live near... NOT! Perhaps someone should suggest she take up a new hobby that would occupy her mind away from constant complaining. :rotfl:

Oh gee, can't remember who all was feeling poorly today. Lots of chicken soup, soft tissues and echinacea raspberry tea for you all. Try to rest and hope you are all feeling better very soon.

Lots of gentle hugs for all who want and/or need them. Tomorrow will be a busy day for me so I'm hoping to drop in and say hello early before the day gets in non-stop mode.
