Completely agree with Martin, is a real "Rip-OFF" unless you are seasoned user with lots of time to spare and complete flexibility. Also, Add on costs of getting to real destination on arrival and real departure point and price goes up again. Worst of all, when Ryanair mess up, YOU are in trouble as there is NO customer service or help of any kind. This could end up costing you a fortune. I deplore their underhand tactics, if it is all so honest, show it all up front.

...and this is exactly what the banks did with charges (ie subsidise those who did not go overdrawn by making big charges on those who did), something which MSE has fought all the way - please explain the difference!

    Errrrm, lemme see...No.

So simple . Do not fly with ryan air.

We have avoided buying 5 years at 24 return tickets since an overweight rip off at dublin.

We are the customer, ryan air have forgotten this.

You coulda just weighed your bags first, like anyone with half a brain does.

You get the feeling that Mr O'Really  wants you to slip up so he can make more money.

That's exactly what he wants. So don't slip up.

Seems to me that an awful lot of people want flying to go back to how it used to be i.e. book on the phone or through a high-street travel agent, take as much baggage as you like, chop, change and cancel to your heart's content, miss your flight and get put on the next one, get a meal and drinkies on board at no extra charge, and so on.

All of which would be great. Except it was so expensive that flying in those days was virtually a luxury. And you still can fly like that if you want. But not at Ryanair prices.

It's very simple really: you can have cheap or you can have flexible. Your choice.

    Hi guys,

Having read this site for months I thought it time to do my first post! The airline charge rip offs don't stop at checking-in etc they get worse...

I regulary fly between london and budapest and can fly easyjet or wizz so pick the cheapest for each way. Unsurprisingly Easyjet have found a way of charging you more if you only fly one way - by charging in the local currency at a currency rate of their choice! For instance if I booked a return easyjet quoted me £74.99 for Budapest to london, however if I booked a single it worked out for the same flight (with their currency rate) £87.99 - £13 more expensive and you have no choice but to pay as you can't get the english price despite paying in pounds on a credit card!!

Then it gets worse - they charge you £9 credit card fee instead of their £5.

So the same flight costs £17 more because you're not leaving from UK, despite paying in pounds!?!?

I totally agree with Martin - lets get airlines to charge like every other industry - a total price! Could you imagine if the supermarkets added every little cost they have onto the price of every item at the checkout - we wouldn't accept it so why accept these charges, especially as they're not true - paying by credit card costs Ryanair pennies not pounds!!

It's perfectly obvious from your post that you have no trouble understanding *exactly* what you are going to pay when you hit the "Buy" button. So where's the problem?

Hey Bazster, you been away for a bit? been a while since we saw you standing on that pedestal of yours. What's the weather like up there. I hope you get really stung one day when you aren't as quick as you are now, but by your blabbering it looks like it isn't far off.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
BTW I can never remember flying being really expensive, it's all just smoke and mirrors now. This seems to be the trend of the LCC short hauls though, fly long haul with a legacy carrier and there is still that sense of if something goes wrong you will be looked after, and if it wasn't for the APD flying would still be pretty cheap.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • Question?
Why do Ryanair say their charges are optional? Surely optional means you choose to pay or not?

The situation descibed by Martin is even worse if you are flying from a regional airport and have to change at Stanstead. There are no through tickets on Ryanair therefore all extra charges are double, i.e. if you can get £1 flights for each leg the total cost for family of 3 could be £792. And if the first flight is delayed and you miss the connection you will have paid all that money for a holiday in Stanstead.

Actually, Richardw, check your statement. If you paid with a UK card, you will suffer DCE and the exchange rate will be RyanAir determined, and pretty poor. I had to send my email into my bank (as proof the transaction was in EUR) and they recharged the transaction at the correct figure.

Now, granted, this isn't much on 5 CHF, but for larger amounts the 5% or so extra can be significant.

    Just checked

    Debit Card Service Charge £1.50
    30 Jul 5.00 CHF @ 1.742
Ryanair Int 000000 Dublin IE £2.87

Total charge £4.37, so about 87.4p per person. Yes 1.742 looks like a poor rate.

My bank wouldnt give me an electron card to run alongside by visa debit on my current account so I got my visa pre-pay electron from the post office and it was ready to use 24 hours later, is worth a go (actually having to wait saved me money as the flight prices dropped!!)

I did the same, got the Post Office travel card Visa Electron form, filled it in,handed over form, showed ID and handed over money I wished to put on card. Was given card and next day phoned the automated service to activate the card. You can put on euros dollars or sterling.
There is a small fee to load sterling.

    Now ready to go.
