larmy16: Thanks for that. Youre absolutly right, it is something that we will always have to be aware of. Nice to be reminded of it though. I still try to tell myself to rememeber how hard the first few days and weeks were and that if i never go back to smoking then i never have to go through those times again.

Well done to all of us another week over with !!!
Read the story in the Mirror today pg 24 - about the woman, who is on the advert with her daughter at the moment, who is dieing of cancer - the part thats she quotes - I'd never let any harm come to my children but I couldn't see I was hurting them myself - and - I never realised how selfish I'd been that I never felt my children were important enough to stop smoking - this womans story really has made me think -
I really hope her story spurs others on
I know that people are dieing of cancer every day but not all as a result of smoking - we mustn't go back to it - stick together - be there for one another - :grouphug:
Sezdav - started the points diet today (Groan) only last night I discovered that a bar
of galaxy (larger than the normal bar ) is 18 points honestly thats a whole days points for me - ha ha - thing is I always have one on Friday and another on Saturday - done that even when I was smoking - this has got to stop !!! I am getting bigger by the day - 9 pound weight gain - Arrrggghhh :eek:0 -
Gave up smoking last Thursday :j
Just came across this thread. Had already started putting 4 pounds (still can't find pound sign) per day in my saving's account (I was on cheapy cigarettes), doing ok so far, looking forward to spending my savings on a holiday in a year's time!
Oh yes, and it was reading about the new adverts coming out that made me quit, need to think of my children.0 -
:T Well done Possom - keep it up! Are you going 'cold turkey' - if so, more congrats to you. I'm still climbing the hill towards even stopping, so my admiration always goes to those who quit 'just like that'.
There again, larmy16 might just have hit the nail on the head, worth a serious thought that, as thinking about smoking is driving me nearly as bonkers as actually having given up
Well done all

Thanks barbara
I am on the patches at the moment and they are really helping. I am amazed at how much more in control of my life I seem already. Things like seeing jobs all the way through instead of stopping for a cigarette, not rushing home from the school run for a coffee and a cigarette, i'm actually feeling like going straight to the gym now! I'm a singing/piano teacher for a living, so obviously it's going to help me there, even though smoking has never affected my singing voice and I still have the lung capacity of a non-smoker (according to my medical), that would obviously go downhill at some point though, I just feel I have more energy and feel great!
Good luck to all of you ex-smokers out there :T0 -
Hello everyone! Hope your all still going strong!
I cant stress enough but to try the paul mckenna book and hypnosis CD. I weighed myself yesterday *i shouldn't of, but i did* and I've lost 6lbs! I've also been off the sticks for 6 days!
I feel fantastic and i hope you all can to.
Next thing on my list is to grow my finger nails lol.Debt Free - Go Me0 -

Thanks for this, going to try and get it this week, the next thing on my list is to lose weight when i'm comfortably off the fags. Managed to get over my fear of flying last year through similar techniques (power of the mind) so am confident this will help.0 -
Just a quick question for someone whogave up smoking a fair while back... when does it get easier? Im approaching week 8 now and im still really really sturggling. To the point where ive been at the check out ready to buy some cigs this week. I didnt a have to add but im not sure how long i can resist temptation. At times im fine and am keen to practice what ive been preaching but the last couple of days have been absolutly the worse. When if ever does it get easier. I think about cigs most of the time. Surely this isnt normal at this stage.
Dont sugar the pill id rather be aware of what im in for. Thanks, and sorry for the negativity guys, sez x0 -
Hi Sezdav, I feel your pain but it's got a lot easier for me recently - almost 13 weeks quit. So Im not a longterm quitter and I don't know how you measure 'normal' as its seems quits vary enormously, for me I've written a list of all the positives for giving up smoking and tried to see it as a gift I'm giving myself rather than feel deprived. Having said that I haven't really tackled my major trigger - being at the pub - and have only been once since my quit date as it just doesn't hold the same appeal, good for money saving though! I also have majorly realistic, vivid smoking dreams. I quit once before, for 10 weeks and then convinced myself that I could become one of those social smokers that I envied so much. Needless to say I was back to my original consumption within a few days. It really is all or nothing for the majority!
Good luck! (working out or any form of exercise is a great way to distract u)0 -
Thanks sparkle_monkey. I think 13 weeks is great. Its nice to hear its got easier lately. Ive had the conversations with myself about only being a social smoker but know deep down that one puff will be too many and 100 cigs will not be enough!
Thanks, im just trying to be a bit more relaxed about it today. How did you give up by the way? Patches, will power? Well done anyway!
