I've just decided to quit smoking right now, this minute.

Reading through all these posts has given me the encouragement to do it.

I'm going to go "Cold Turkey". Keep an eye on my sig to see how I get on!

Good Luck Grovers :j :j :j you can live without smoking, I am testament to that. If I can do it, anybody can and I don't say that lightly. I loved my ciggies, ate and breathed them literally. I am now smoke free and I have never been happier or prouder of myself. It is my greatest achievement and it will be yours too.

We will give you all the support, kicks up the butt you need to get you smoke free. Welcome aboard :D

good luck im an ex smoker 2years ,your going to get cravings but what i did was to tell myself this craving will pass in a short space of time, dont think"oh, maybe if i have one puff".tell your friends you are now an ex smoker, they can help if your feeling weak willed sometimes , but remember, its gets easier and easier, but i like to say again the key is to tell yourself the craving will pass , and it does very quick

  • I have failed you all - I was very drunk on Saturday and had 2 cigs - couldn't admit to this yesterday as SEZDAV was so desperate for someone to admit they'd given in (and I just didn't want her to think well if she can so can I - coz she sounded soo desperate) anyway done it and how did I feel

Smoking - great - enjoyed my drink with my cig

Next day - gutted but ..... never fancied one at all - I really mean it - just made up my mind thats it I dont want it

Monday still good and glad I done it as was feeling that bad the weekend before - do not feel a failure either to be honest as think of how many I would of had
in the past month - wasn't going to admit to it as felt really ashamed but who would I be cheating other than myself and I feel better that I am telling you all

Today - oh dear fancying another one - am I going to - No I am not as I am a non smoker - Saturday was a blip

Would I do it again - who knows - but I do not drink that often and who knows by the time I go drinking next time I might be off the patches and alot stronger

I hope you all do not think bad of me - just wanted to tell you all and own up to the fact that on Saturday I stunk like an ashtray - yuck !

No hon, I for one am not disappointed in you. To be honest and not lie to others or yourself is a great achievement. You have come clean and been honest, be proud of that.

A slip up is just that, a slip up. What you have to do is learn from it. Don't beat yourself up about letting us/yourself down, merely concentrate on not letting it happen again. In the great scheme of things, 2 cigarettes aren't going to kill you, start a cancer cell on it's crazy journey around your body or bankrupt you (all 'reasons' why we all want to/do stop smoking!).

Try to avoid alcohol whilst you are fighting the cigarette habit. To drink and not smoke is very difficult for a seasoned smoker. Avoiding alcohol will make this easier and also make you healthier as alcohol is bad for you too!

Forget the 2 you had, think about the hundreds you haven't had and keep on with the fight to become a non-smoker.

    THANKS EMBER
I honestly do not drink that often - it was a special occassion - to be honest I suffer too much with hangovers to be a drinker and after years of living with an alcoholic who killed himself in the end I really do not have that much interest in it - must admit though I knew if I was going to slip up it was going to be that evening I had almost talked myself into it !
I will take your advice and will forget those two I had and will NOT do it again thank you for being so understanding and making me feel better :A
You, along with everyone else are doing so well - please don't give in like me it really does make you feel miserable afterwards !

That's a very healthy attitude to have. Well Done! :D

I'm off to the Gym in a few minutes. One thing I have noticed as a positive effect of giving up smoking is my improved fitness. I had thought I was 'fit' before, being slim and able to do a hefty weight-lifting session that could easily compete with lasses in their 20's etc. however, since I stopped smoking I have taken up with a personal trainer to improve my cardio vascular fitness (heart and lungs). I am now doing a half hour run on the running machine, followed by 15 minutes on the cross-trainer, then doing half an hour of intensive weight-training. I am firm, fit and can run around like a kid now and I would not have been able to do 45 minutes aerobic activity several months ago as a smoker. I think I concentrated on weights as you don't break a sweat with them. Fitness is a bit of a con with weight training. You don't really exercise the main heart and lungs muscles. You get a body that is firm and fit 'looking' whilst having the lung capacity of a pensioner lol (or so I was told by my personal trainer....28 year old male who smokes! )

I avoided running machines, cross-trainers, steppers etc. as they made me knackered and out of breath. Says it all doesn't it?

If any of you read my other threads you will see that I was 'discharged' from the cancer clinic yesterday morning, following my last check-up on my breast lump that ended up being a cyst. If any of you out there need incentive to STOP smoking, think about that. Smoking increases your risk of all cancers and shortens your life. If you don't end up with lung cancer, you risk getting other serious lung diseases or leg amputations etc. Bad circulation, heart disease etc. It really isn't worth it. I am trying to become addicted to 'not smoking' just as I was addicted to smoking. I don't want to die before my time and that is why I stopped smoking. The breast cyst was a 'wake-up' call that I wasn't really healthy like I thought I was. Looks can be deceptive. I looked young, had great skin, ate healthy food and was a size 10 in clothes. Yes, I was a walking time bomb through smoking 30 - 40 cigarettes a day. I have stopped that stupidity now and I will never smoke again. I wasted thousands over the years on cigarettes and made myself and my house smell awful.

Keep determined and don't smoke another cigarette. Like Martin says 'Moneysavers Don't Smoke'

    How right he is :T

Good grief, only away for a day, and loads of dramas at once! Briefly:

Congrats to Ember and Sez for sticking with the cause through thick and thin (glad for the special good news for you Ember), AND Loz for honesty - Loz, you lost a battle but you're still WINNING THE WAR!

Grovers, go gO GO for it, as you can see, it may be difficult  to give up, but it's being done - RIGHT HERE!

    Suzy G - you're an inspiration.

    Keep going all

    Barbara :D
