  • When i get the urge i just tell myself "I'm a non-smoker, and non-smokers dont need a cigarette". I don't know the alan carr book has helped me completly I'm on day 8 and the "wanting" has completly cleared. The first 3 days where the hardest, but now I hardly think about it at all.

I think maybe if you've given up but your still struggling then it might be an idea to go see a hypnotist, or maybe go for acupuncture sessions. Apparently they work wonders.

  • SORTING OUT TEMPTATION AT HOME (OR ANYWHERE IF YOU HAVE A SEALED CONTAINER SMALL ENOUGH TO CARRY AROUND WITH YOU).

A golden oldie this, but guaranteed to make you feel sick at the thought of smoking - probably been posted already by some-one but if so worth repeating:

Get sealable water tight container (small ex pickle jar or the like?) - ask a smoker for some of their dog ends with a beaming smile, they'll think you've cracked up, hence the smile.

Put dog ends and warm water into container, seal and leave for a few hours, overnight or even longer is good.

And.... when the temptation starts - GET YOUR CONTAINER, OPEN IT AND TAKE A DEEP SNIFF - YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL SO SICK.... that you won't think about smoking for quite a while, honest!

We have all heard of smokers who gave up 2 - 7 years and then started again - not meaning to be negative here - just to say that so long as you keep on trying you will get there. Also now with all this banning smoking everywhere, it is even more of an incentive to keep off them. How unrelaxing to be huddling outside on a blustery freezing day, just to get that nicotine into your system. It does put it into perspective how much of a drug nicotine is. A very powerful drug.

I think with me it eventually clicked that stopping was much easier than all the thinking about and worrying about stopping, the money and health risks, not to mention the stink, cough etc.... ;)

I can really relate to your last few lines!!
have now been over 24 hours without smoking and feel really positive!
went to a smoking cessation appointment last night and did you know that sunflower seeds help with cravings? Boots sell these in small packets for 39p , hope that can help someone, its worth a try.
I really hope i can do it this time 3rd time lucky.

  • Nearly at the end of the 3rd day :D , but could really murder one so I am trying to keep busy.
My husband has also given up (we have both smoked for over 20 years each  , so we must do it.)
I feel cleaner and can already smell more clearly also food tasting better.
I keep reminding myself what a disguisting filthy habit it really is.
To everyone in the same boat , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Sweety I know your pain! I dont understand it either. Last week was my abslute worse. I dont know what happened butit almost seemed worse than the 1st couple of weeks. But todays sunday. Tell yourself that tomorrow you are going to wake up stronger and more positive. Thats my plan... cant hurt can it!

Also im trying really hard to stop thinking about them. If the thought enters my mind rather than have a barney with myself... will i wont i.... didnt i used to enjoy it... ect im going to instantly dismiss the though. I try singing, counting to ten, anthing so the thought doesnt get chance to absorb me.

Im with you honey. Keep at it! Thinking of you. Sez x
